I swear they always need to give time-travelers the short end of the stick. Trunks did break a rule and in doing so saved not one, but two realities. If you ask me, it seems kinda like Trunks always tried to TEMPER his anger. Not let it control him, despite having many reasons to be furious. The Androids that killed Gohan, Cell threatening his timeline, then Zamasu... It seems like Trunks avoids acting in anger, likely because it reminds him of his Father, and those issues go DEEP. Beyond that, his role model was always very calm, despite what we know Gohan to be capable of. This scene, this theme... This is what happens when he embraces that. That blue aura? Could very well be tapping in to some divinity there, far faster than Vegeta eventually did... Trunks, with proper training and the right circumstances, could likely surpass Vegeta, possibly even Goku. Shame the series will never let him.

This is actually my favorite transformation, such a shame it's an ass pull in the canon In my head-canon, to achieve ssj rage you need to be in ssj and release your resolve to protect others, basically you need to be pure of heart and you need the will to protect the ones you care about But that's just my head-canon, if you guys disagree or have other theories/head-canons then lemme know, I'm interested to find out what ways trunks could've achieved ssj rage more logically

I like to think of it as the true form of super saiyan. Mostly due to it being triggered by a mixture of rage and desire to protect. Which is how gohan became a super saiyan2

What I get from it is the blue godlike aura indicates that he achieved it from training / being around Goku and Vegeta and it is stacked onto a rage super saiyan form

I've got a different theory. I believe that it is the same thing as ssj blue evolution. I think that ssj rage is ssj2 second grade(what vegeta uses against semi perfect cell), and that ssj blue evolution is ssj blue second grade.

1: a form in which you unlock by father son type of things E.g.vegeta dies and trunks goes ssj rage. 2: a form of Super saiyan 3 in which only royal saiyan blood can achieve. 3: Pure rage basically not caring anymore like instead of stopping black he said I'M GONNA KILL YOU MYSELF! 4: A form between super saiyan 2 and 3. 5: Dispair, the dispair triggers rage.
