I loved seeing Piccolo's new form, which really culminated his whole arc, since Kami created the dragon balls, Piccolo in his previous demon king incarnation killed him, then Piccolo's Jr incarnation was redeemed, fused together with Nail to gain knowledge of his heritage, then again with Kami to become what he once was and whole, then finally, the dragon he originally created, boosted by Dende who the Nail part helped raise, unlocks all his potential. It was very well earned, almost like he upgraded himself in a way only a Namekian can. Gohan's transformation was just out of left field, but appreciated to get him finally up there with the others.

@@NostalgicMem0ries actually it makes absolute sense. Near death battles and training in base form makes a saiyan exponentially stronger. Gohan has been fighting planetary threat type villains, since he was literally a toddler. In his base form. He’s had his potential unlocked twice, once by supreme Kai, once by Grand Elder Guru. On top of all that his latent ability has always far exceeded Goku and Vegetas as they both stated many times. Don’t forget he killed Cell at age 11 bro…11.. Goku nor Vegeta could do that and they had been training like madmen since Frieza.

i get gohan story, i love it, and i agree he had way more potential than goku and others, maybe only broly has higher one. but gohan story was written pretty well, he had unlimited potential yet got fucked up by chi chi school and other crap. it needed way more build up to bring gohan back, entire arc or even entire dragon ball super, to see goku picolo die to make it really awaken, now it feels so rushed, one movie, one one really died, in 20mins he goes from nerd with plants to equal goku miui... it makes entire goku and vegeta development stupid, knowing how much they had to go throw@@rastawisehigh8734

Couple of fun facts/explanations: Android 21 & 16 aren’t Gero’s actual wife & son, simply modeled after them. While Toriyama had said that before about 16, that information had only been said in interviews and DBZ Abridged, so this is the first time it’s appeared in the series proper. It’s also the first time we get a name for Gero’s son & his wife, and like all Toriyama names, they’re puns. Gero means “spew”, Hedo means “vomit”, Vomi is just vomit without the ‘t’, and Gevo is a combination of Gero & Vomi Beerus having a type makes sense, actually. Cheelai may be green, but she’s got a lot of similarities to Bulma, which helps explain why Beerus puts up with her shenanigans. Gohan’s new transformation is called “Beast”, and it recently became an available transformation for custom characters in Xenoverse 2. A lot of people(me included) didn’t like the appearance of the CGI when the first trailer came out, but it’s _way_ better looking after they had time to go over it plenty. I honestly wouldn’t mind this style sticking around for later movies or the anime, since they’ve already got the models made. Magenta is voiced by Charles Martinet, who is known for voicing Paarthurnax in Skyrim. Oh, and some jumpy Italian plumber dude that likes the color red. Oh, and speaking of Magenta, at the beginning his desk has a picture of both Commander Red and Violet. So some believe that’s a hint on who his mother is.

Funny thing; when Gohan was a kid & went SS2, he got angry when 19 was killed. In this, he went full on raging Beast mode seeing his stepfather fall the way he did, & thinking he’s dead, unleashed his full rage potential. The transformation is Beast Gohan. My honest critique of this movie is story wise it seems more interesting and exciting than the other super movies, but i feel it could've been better if more time was spent at the beginning half of re-enforcing the importance of preparing so that you are strong enough to protect those that you care about so that you won't lose them before the peace got disrupted. In my opinion the attack happened waay to coincidently soon after piccolo brought up that Gohan was getting soft and stagnant. Now i know that Gohan implied that he has been practicing here and there; even teaching himself the piccolo's technique, but it would've been nice to see some progression of time where Gohan realizes that Piccolo is right and starts training hard or something else that would better explain how he could still in the keep up and even obtain even greater strength. Simply getting angry alone as a saiyan/hyrbrid isn't enough to just rise to the occasion. A saiyan has to be right on the edge of obtaining a new level of strength before just skyrocketing. Other than that the movie was pretty good.

Goku trained martial arts his whole life until he became an adult and couldn't hang with Raditz, Gohan was a sheltered baby and surpassed all that hard work + bullshit water power ups by having a tantrum. Gohan's character has literally always been "It doesn't matter how hard you train or how much stronger you should be, don't get me angry, or you will die." Ironically the only time Gohan never got angry was the fight he lost.

@@vampycaltm5273 Well there was the time he got angry when Videl was injured by spopovich, and he let his guard down long enough for his energy to be sapped. I consider that a loss even though his Z friends and supreme kai allowed it to happen. As for the baby Gohan temporarily surpassing Goku's strength to injure raditz during a tantrum I rationalized that in my head as Goku's strength being passed down in greater form to his child along with gohan still having his tail. Goku's strength would have surpassed Raditz if he had his tail, but he hasn't had the other factors or training to skyrocket his strength without a saiyan tail yet until after the saiyan saga of DBZ. There are saiyan prodigies at birth such as vegeta and broly that aren't so much on the latent power side; as well as the fact that all saiyans grow stronger through near death experiences, harnessing their ape tail, and sometimes by anger. All of that makes saiyan potential as overpowered as it is, but there's a pattern that appears as DBZ goes into the later half of the show that gets perpetuated further in the Super series where random characters with no reasonable explanation can justify being comparable to the strongest of Z fighters. It takes away from the original concept of being to overcome all odds through hard work and plot armor if you're a saiyan.

Gohan trained really hard for the Moro arc. I take it from this that Gohan was more "mentally" out of form, he was so focused on work, but physically he's still in good form, because he's not letting himself get completely out of shape.

@@robbiemedica2652 Mentally not focusing on fighting wouldn't have stopped him from sensing Piccolo's ki , and he wouldn't be taken by surprise if he was physically at the top of his game. He was physically and mentally fetting soft. If they want to spin the narrative that it wasn't as bad as Piccolo alluded to in the beginning then in my opinion they should have spent more time at the beginning showing that Piccolo was wrong. By them not doing that it just reinforces the cheesy dragon ball super plot armor that bypasses the original anime's fundamentals.
