Just wanted to let you know that there IS a basis for Pan knowing how to fly as a toddler but forgetting after. Humans can instinctively swim and hold their breath when they are born! But we lose that ability pretty quickly, and have to learn it again when we're more grown up. So this could very easily be a similar thing for Saiyans. Or it could simply be a manifestation of her human side, at that.

He was really only wanting Dende to do the whole potential unlock Guru did in the Namek saga (which is a great callback that makes this movie fit in Dragon Ball even better), and Dende who doesn't have that skill, said Piccolo might as well just ask the Dragon to unlock his potential. He really only wanted a slight power increase, but the Dragon was nice and gave him more than he could've ever asked for

I prefer Piccolo getting a transformation from a wish to Granola and Gas getting it. As a Namekian it seems appropriate that his new form is unlocked through Namekian magic. Honestly though, I don't really care, I'm just happy he's getting to be relevant again.

I must admit I was a little worried they were going to give more shine and screen time to Gohan over Piccolo even though they stated both of them were the main characters. They definitely did Piccolo justice here. I have no complaints. He had more screen time than Gohan and definitely was a MAJOR key in this movie. Great Movie

I like how Shenron did need a boost in order to grant Piccolo's wish, he's never actually done that before (in canon). He's only ever granted wishes that all add up to wishing someone back to their original state or current level, never actually granting more than that. Immortality? Yes, but you're still at the level you were. Restored Youth? Fine, but whatever you were then or now, is what you'll be. Reviving? Sure, I won't repeating myself though. A Power boost or unlocked potential has never been asked for before and that's probably the limit Shenron had at the time.

I feel like with everyone getting there own unique forms they are gearing up for something major, heck even Future Trunks got his own unique form that was equal to Goku and Vegeta back in the Goku Black arc. It's great seeing Piccolo, Gohan and to a lesser extent Goten and Trunks getting some much needed time to shine. Glad it didn't seem to turn into Goku and Vegeta arrive to save the day which has been played up so much so it's good that it hopefully seems to be ending with others now able to be useful

I'm living in Tokyo, so I've watched it already. I went to the Toho Cinema in Shinjuku on release day at 17:50, and it was PACKED. If it was not sold out, it was close to it. Now, my general opinion is that it's a good movie in general. My biggest gripe is that the movie's ending didnt' work for me at all, but the whole movie leading up to it was great. Now, let's get to the specifics (Spoilers, d'uh!): POSITIVES: - The animation in general is just incredible. Seriously, people who say these are "PS2 graphics" have no legs to stand on... well, except for the Super Saiyan hair, including Final Gohan's hair. That was the only element I thought looks legitimately bad, and it stands out like a sore thumb. But the rest is very well done, and Toei truly takes advantage of the 3D environments. The 2 years of experimentation in the "Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai" anime (which you SHOULD see, BTW) have paid off. - Although people are talking about Gohan the most... the thing is he is NOT the protagonist of the movie. As a matter of fact, Gohan is VERY passive throughout the entire movie. PICCOLO, not Gohan, is the true protagonist. And yes, I'm puting this as a positive, because I think it's very well executed (for the most part. I'll get to that). - Pan is just adorable. Seriously, Toriyama wrote her just perfectly. Just in her first dialogue, her body language, particularly one moment where she swings her arms side to side, is so adorable I just... I just COULDN'T...! lol And yeah, she's not a damsel in distress at any point. Oh, and Piccolo and Pan act the whole plan together. It's not that Pan just knows it's Piccolo behind the disguise. She's just one of the best things about the movie, hands down. - Dr. Hedo and Gamma 1 and 2 are very good additions. Gamma 1 and 2 even have a small, but satisfying character arc in which they put their own vision of heroism into question, mostly due to the influence Piccolo has on them. Oh, and Gamma 2 has what it may have become my favorite joke in the entire Dragon Ball canon (Holograms. If you know, you know). - The supporting cast is very well used for the most part. I was pleasantly surprised with how Goten and Trunks' failed fusion was handled. I was even happy with how Krillin's role in the movie. At first he starts off playing his role of being "the coward", like in most DBZ movies. Something that made roll my eyes... but it was Toriyama just trolling, since he gets back in the fight and has his moment to shine. Well played, Toriyama. Well played. - Gohan using the Makankosappo* was epic AF! Seriously, just amazing. NEGATIVES: - Piccolo's plan to get Gohan back into shape is quite manipulative and kind of reckless when you get down to it. Honestly, is the kind of stuff that, if Goku was the one doing it, the community would completely roast him at this point. Now, there are some mitigating factors, like the fact that Piccolo never intended for Cell Max to be awakened. But still. - Cell Max is a let down. I'm not gonna lie, I was never a big fan of Cell. I'm more of the MistareFusion opinion that Perfect Cell is just discount Frieza. But even then, I'd take discount Frieza over a mindless Kaiju. But worst than that is that Cell being half-recreated has no bearing on the plot. Heck, Gohan doesn't react to him at all! As in, when he appears before the heroes for the first time, there isn't even a mere reaction shot of Gohan! Seriously, they could have replaced Cell Max with a clone of Hildergarn and NOTHING would have been lost. - Goku and Vegeta aren't really part of the movie. That's not a bad thing, quite the opposite. What IS bad is that the scene dedicated to them is unnecesarily long and it just stops the narrative on its tracks for a solid 5-10 minutes that just didn't need to be there. Toriyama even adds that Beerus apparently gets a crush on Cheelai that made me go... "WHYYYYYY?!!!!". The whole thing is just pointless. And to be honest, those are minutes that would have been better used elsewhere. Which brings me back to... - The movie drops the ball in the end. The truth is the movie doesn't do the leg work to give Gohan's new transformation any substance. It's not even foreshadowed, it just kind of happens, and the entire scene is just carried by fan service alone, repeating the same imagery from Gohan's SSJ2 transformation against Cell. But there's no real emotional foundation behind it, so it rings completely hollow. Now (WARNING: unpopular opinion incoming), Gohan's original SSJ2 transformation was not very good either, since Toriyama made Gohan's character to regress in order to get the emotional punch. But at least it was something. And to make things worse, design-wise, Final Gohan is just another palette swap. It was bad when they did it with Super Saiyan Blue and it's bad now too. I know that Gohan fans are starving so much for him being in the spotlight that most probably they will accept it anyway, but for me it felt completely flat. OK, so that was my general opinion of the movie. I though 90% of it was great, but the remaining 10%, although it doesn't ruined the movie for me, it definitely prevented it to become my favorite "Dragon Ball" movie (Which is "Broly", BTW). However, I'll say this: it felt to me that Toriyama is legitimately trying to improve as a writer. Yes, this is a movie that feels more lighthearted, but unlike in previous similar attempts (I'm looking at you, Boo Arc!), you can tell he's been careful to keep it well balanced with the action and keep the plot and characters consistent. Heck, he even gives Hedo and the Gammas some legitimate depth! I mean... By "Dragon Ball" standards... But I think that this movie and the "Broly" movie have risen said standards, to be honest! Of course, he still has a lot of things to improve on. The hollowness of Gohan's new transformation is still a HUGE problem that brings the whole movie down. But I'd say the net result is clearly positive. Can't wait to see what comes next! * As a non-native English speaker I'm legally obligated to HATE the name "Special Beam Cannon", sorry. :P

I think a lot of people are forgetting one thing, in regards to Piccolo using the dragon to get a wish; First, he was wishing for something that was already present much earlier in the series that he missed out on, so not a huge knock off. Second, Piccolo has -NEVER- cared about getting stronger for the sake of pride. He's not a saiyan, he's always been more practical. He fused with Nail the moment it was suggested his training wasn't enough to keep up with Frieza, he fused with Kami when he realized he wouldn't be enough for Androids 17 and 18. I don't think a wish on the Dragonballs is really that far removed from something he would do if he knew it would help prevent a cataclysm.

My theory here. The potential unlock unlocks Piccolo's potential as normal, like Elder Saichoro would. The bonus gift Shenron gave Piccolo was _Awakening_ his original powers as a member of the Dragon Clan (as were Piccolo Daimao, Kami and the Nameless Namekian), so Orange Piccolo is both a Warrior Clan Namekian and a Dragon Clan Namekian. So my fun fan nickname is Dragon Warrior Piccolo

Gohan redeemed his Cell saga fight by not allowing another father figure to sacrifice himself due to him taking his time because his powers got to his head. I'd say that's a bigger win than winning a fight with Jiren.

If they were going the "Piccolo doesn't care about names" route, I just wish they came up with something a bit different than Orange Piccolo so that it wouldn't literally be the same naming scheme as Golden Frieza. Something like how Gohan has "Ultimate Gohan" and "Final Gohan." Just something a bit different and more unique to him.

Piccolo Daimao, Kami and the Nameless Namekian were all members of the Dragon Clan. Orange Piccolo is both a Warrior Clan Namekian (the body Piccolo Jr was born with) and a Dragon Clan Namekian (his origin) All mostly baseless speculation of course

I like to think that the Final Gohan form is supposed to be like a super sayain variant of Ultimate Gohan. That's my headcanon at least I like that you explained Pan's ability to fly being in her nature and eventually her forgetting to do it. I was a master of Cursive back in like 3rd grade and I can barely write my own name rn, I have no doubt its something like that. Overall, I absolutely love this movie and everything it has to offer. Even if it's ridiculous, it's just so damn fun. Love all the characters. Especially the Gammas, and I love the Cell MAX form a ton, even if it doesnt really pertain to why I love Cell as a character. It just all manages to be so fun

I still have to wait a very long time to properly see this movie, so I cannot judge it a lot. But from what I have seen, it looks really good. However, I am not a fan of Cell Max, and I know it is not the same Cell we have all known for more than 30 years, but the thing is, Cell is my favorite villain, and I don't expect them to use the same Cell, but I rather not have a Kaiju version of my favorite villain that does not even talk.

Regarding Toriyama forgetting stuff and whatnot, I mean, creators don't hold their creations in such high regard as fans do, for them, what once was a fun idea, a cool story they wanted to tell, it ends up becoming, well, just a job.. That said, this movie seems like a breath of of fresh air, a simple, story, maybe a bit silly, but entertaining nonetheless, and it gives Gohan and Piccolo the protagonism they deserve, so I'm really looking forward to watch it!

I don't think we can say Gohan peaked yet. His previous form was his Ultimate form which is a synonym of Final anyway, and even it's old description was that he unleashed his hidden potential. Gohan also had his potential revealed by Guru, so he's always one upping himself despite the "finality" of his boosts/transformations. Things can always change.

SPOILER - I want to cry. Gohan using the makankōsappō? I've always hoped that Gohan would adopt that technique, and I hope this means that Pan will eventually learn it. God I enjoyed this movie a loooooot. Wayyyy more than I thought I would. So many awesome little intermezzos from the Red Ribbon goons being dorky, to the Gammas goofing off in the background, to all of the stuff on Beerus' planet, UGHH it was so fun! The whole Cell Max thing was almost a side show, an obligatory "gotta get a big baddie and a new Saiyan form" thing. I could've totally done without those stakes and just have the Gammas being fun and quirky. That little moment when Gohan and Gamma 1 stop fighting before they become friends and Gohan has him by the jaw is just so peak Dragonball slapstick.

The fact that you started this off with Ace has me joining your channel. I loved this spoiler talk and I agree with all of it. I'm stoked for the film, and if it comes across as fanfiction-y - well, the creators got there first, it's all fanfiction. Fiction for us, to enjoy, and I'm sure af gonna enjoy seeing Piccolo get some screen time or a transformation or two. Toriyama just does what he wants, exactly like an author, so I respect that. As for the animation, it is different, but it's also a step up - I adore 90s anime, but the future's coming and I'm just glad Dragonball is on board, the fight scenes I've seen are so immersive, and the plot is so early DB. It's gonna be great

I haven't seen it. I plan to see it. And honestly? I really like what I'm hearing here. The big appeal of Toriyama as an author, to me, is he does not care what other people think. When he's pushed to make an effort, we get Cell...but then he gets burnt out and we get Buu. Honestly I really love his "I wanna do it so I'm gonna make it work" writing style, that's how we got Super Saiyan in the first place. So yeah, I'm actually really looking forward to being able to watch this now! And it feels...kinda weird that they held so much back when they were so open with Broly, because Broly was phenomenal. As for the reception in the West...man, this looks like one of the better PS4 games. It evokes FighterZ for me pretty strongly and that game looks _good._ I can totally understand why people wouldn't want CG movies all the time, and that's cool, people are allowed to feel that way, I myself would also prefer hand-drawn, but I just hope we can remember to be at least a little mature in how we voice those opinions. And really, when all's said and done, even if it was hand-drawn, people would still hate it anyway just for the sake of hating it. But those of us who like it should make our voices heard too.

I get that Cell Max is supposed to be Kaiju villain but at the same time I can't help but feel like there's a wasted potential here. While Frieza was always Goku and Vegeta's nemesis, Cell was Gohan's, his most memorable and hardest opponent, and the idea of them meeting again and interacting was really exciting for me. I'm not particularly angry but I have that feeling of "it could've been much better!"

I think that the transformation that gohan gets is the same nature as the supersayan 2 transformation, gohan manages to break his limits by pure rage, meaning that gohan had the potential, but he didn't get there until his limits were broken. in the cell saga, gohan got to supersayan, but it nedded to get him to get furious to reach his limits, and the same could be with definitive gohan, he got his powers by a ritual and not by his own training and also the fact that he didn't train much to make that form stronger so we didn't get to see what would be his limits in that form, and now we know what his max powers are from that form/energy, again, by his rage breaking his limits as he did against cell

Finally, back here. I liked it, it had a good balance of drama and humor, and I’m grateful they chose to focus on Gohan, Piccolo and Pan this time around. I can justify Goten and Trunks failing the fusion, maybe they haven’t figured out the right starting distance since their growth spurt. At least they did a little something extra with that same old gag. (Next time, maybe they could almost get it right, only to zoom out and show that Gotenks is tiny.) Did I mention I want it to be Goten and Trunks’s turn next? This got me more optimistic.

Gohan's Blanco form came out of nowhere, and doesnt have any more emotional impact than regular Super Saiyan, and emerges from the exact same "anger/sadness/emotion" method. I wish it was explained why its different from SSJ and where it came from, but it is literally white SSJ. I like the film though.

I'm ok with Vomi honestly, after all, Android 21 is known as 21, her human template is Vomi, two different entities just with the same looks. I hope Android 21 will be shown in some kind a way, because this is Vomi, the human female researcher, not Android 21, one of the most powerful, combative, female fighters.
