That is the simplicity I see in him being the Great Saiyaman, overexagareted feelings of a youngman. One nitpick I have with the film is the precocious Cell Max name reveal. They could've referred to him as the ultimate experiment or being, to build expectation. They gave his name to the audience way too soon.

I was dreading the fact that they might have brought Cell back in this movie like some sort of "Resurrection C", but the fact they just had Hedo make a believable, bastardized version of Cell (since they didn't have all of Gero's data on Cell), even giving him his ugly 2nd form rather than a recolored Christmas variant of his perfect form, and making him a roaring, mindless monster. I also like how Toriyama apologized to Norio Wakamoto for just having him scream for like a half-hour.

I feel like gohan's hair size in his new form is intended to make him look like ssj2 teen gohan but in adult form. As if there was no other way to make gohan relevant. The issue with the beast gohan design is the fact they didn’t consider the fact how off looking it does on a grown up gohan, the ssj 2 design worked because he was a kid and kids usually have larger heads so the hair didn’t look off but here it looks ridiculous and they don’t take into note why the design of ssj 2 kid gohan worked when it doesn’t work for adult gohan here.

Yeah no the SSJ2 design never worked for Gohan, turning him into Goku was the worst thing that ever happened to him because he hasn't developed at all since becoming an adult. The whole point of Gohan was to have kid Goku and adult Goku at the same time. The second Gohan grew up aka the moment he went SSJ2 he became diet Goku. The Gohan fan boys don't want to accept that still.

What TeamTowers1 is likely talking about is Toriyama saying in an interview around the time of the Universe 6 Arc that he was considering giving Goku a White-haired transformation, but scrapped this idea because it would have clashed with the next villain (problem referring to Fusion Zamasu).

Small disagreement regarding Broly - Paragus and him weren't cohersed under false pretenses to work for Frieza. They went in fully knowing that King Vegeta and the rest of the saiyans were dead, only Vegeta remaining. Yes Frieza tricked Broly when killing Paragus, but that only made him go berserk due to the stress of losing his father, he didn't even pin the blame on Goku. Also the new gohan transformation is called GOHAN BLANCO. Obviously.

Hearing what you said aboit wanting this movie to have been all about pan in kindergarten got me thinking I would love an episode about Pan and Piccolo Pan goes to school, Gohan and Videl are busy and so Piccolo has to take her to school. Along the way, Piccolo hears talk of a threat of some kind in relation to either the school or to the area she'd be in (like maybe they go on a field trip somewhere and that's where a threat is) Piccolo would try and stay close to ensure her safety but also have to stay out of sight I'd have the threat be something light, and probably something that Piccolo would misunderstand and at wouldn't be serious at all This is a very loose idea as I haven't given it much thought yet but I'd love this way more than 15 episodes of fight fight fight

I enjoyed this, but I am annoyed that Gohan's Ultimate state is still treated as a "transformation" he has to undergo. That never seemed to be the case originally and I thought the whole point of it was that he could access his full power WITHOUT HAVING to transform. But whatever, they need merch. Gohan's new form was undoubtedly a nostalgia pull at his peak state in the franchise, but the SSJ2 hair looks a bit ridiculous on an adult Gohan. At least it wasn't JUST an arbitrary color change though.

The new hair are... certainly a choice, but I will say personally I thought he looked pretty good in his regular Super Saiyan form. The colors and the sizing of the hair were very pleasing to my eye

The text specifically says that Gohan doesn't NEED to transform anymore to unleash his full power. His ultimate state should have been a permanent power-up where he could access his full potential just by powering to max. But over the years, it's just become another transformation and something Gohan could "lose" somehow.

I will just say, i agree with a lot of what you said. So here is some ideas of what could have been done to fix the movie. The first attack of the gamma's happens after Piccolo goes for Pan on Kindergander, Piccolo retreats, not because it's too much for him, but for Pan. He begins to follow him, but Pan hitches on his cape(Of course the cape would come to bite him in the ass), we have the infiltration with then doing different gags, playing out of each other, etc. In the middle of that, we show Gohan finishing his work and while he is organizing his work place, he see's his old Saiyaman costume, looks around the house quickly and the clock realizing Piccolo already got Pan from the Kindergander, so he decided to take an hour to do one of his hobbies from time to time, being the Great Saiyaman. Things get serious on the Red Ribbon base, the Gamma's find Piccolo and Pan, one of the Gamma's grabs Pan thinking she was Kidnapped by Piccolo, Piccolo thinks they are kidnapping Pan, so he escapes to get Gohan so they can rescue her. Magenta turns it, into an actual kidnapping when he realize one of the Gamma's has the granddaughter of Mr. Satan. Piccolo goes to Gohan, they go together to the base fighting time begins, but this time, no new transformations, just old stuff but they push to the limits of their powers, and Gohan, because it's *HIS THING* gets an anger powerboost when he thinks the explotion got to Pan and another one when he Piccolo is dead. ... Also none of that crap of Goku forgetting that his training with Kami was of Spiritual nature about not wasting movement, being a calm, etc. None of forgetting the crap that Vegeta was talking about is stuff he already knows how to do.

Got the pleasure of seeing the film, and while I'm still not a fan of its cg direction, I love it's story! It's great to see other characters( especially Gohan and Piccolo) get a chance to shine! Stories don't always have to be Goku and Vegeta, so I was happy to see them take a back seat with Beerus. Also I loved seeing more of our dear little Pan ❤ ( though I wonder if she forgot how to fly as an infant)!

From what I have seen It's certainly no "Lupin the third : the first" which is a shame. The animation in the trailers has been very mixed bag. The cgi can look very cutscene-y with stiff arm and head movements. It feels like more of a gimmick move than artistic inspiration.

@@deadpanjelly2913 hard disagree. It looked really good in most scenes, and they used 2D throughout the movie if it added to the scene. Not to mention the CG is absurdly good for CG. Only real gripe was Videl having less screentime than a beetle that Gohan was studying in the movie, and that's just kinda par for the course. At least Goten and Trunks got a couple of good hits in, but I'm kinda tired of the over-reliance on Gotenks, and even as teenagers they screwed up the transformation and we got fat Gotenks.

@@derpfluidvariant0916 unfortunately the film still looks like a cut scene but longer. It cannot be ignored. While the Broly movie had 2D with little cg, it's reversed here. Personally I wished it were back in its 2D direction throughout the whole movie...especially seeing Yuya's art direction and beautiful action cinematography. But that's just my opinion. Definitely catch it when it hits the US so you can enjoy it and properly see what the film looks like in full.

I enjoyed this movie much more than DBS Broly as well. My issue with the Gammas is that they don't really do Super Hero stuff aside from fighting who the RR tells them to fight, and not wanting Pan to get harmed. They feel more like employees of the organisation rather than active Super Heroes, who could have still been used to give the new RR a better name in the world. As for Cell Max, never I thought I would say this, but part of me believes that bringing back the actual Cell would have been more effective: Cell Max is just a bootleg knock-off with none of the powers nor demeanor of its predecessors, and doesn't even come off as an intimidating threat because aside form Number 2 performing the most unnecessary sacrifice in history, doesn't even kill anyone, with it being defeated because Piccolo literally asks Gohan to get angry again like the good old days. At least Hirudegarn attacked the city multiple times and felt like a persistent threat throughout his whole movie. He is basically CINO (Cell In Name Only). If it had been the actual Bug Daddy, having Hido come to face with his Grandfather's greatest creation and the Gammas' predecessor and realising how horribly malicious it was would have been far more interesting to see, as well as him harming Pan to get his revenge on Gohan or something like that. Would have had a much higher chance of making the climax even more crammed, but come on, if you want to go full fanservice for the final, then go all out, Cell is even the only major villain from the original manga the series not to be alive in some way (except for Red, lol).

Cell Max is exactly like Bio Broly, a copy mindless of a already great villain just created for fanservice. I know it would be repetitive to bring in yet another villain from the dead, but it would be a fun experience to see the Cell who considered himself so perfect and complete be overwhelmed by everyone around him, forcing him to train and master himself to reach his perfection.

First reviewer to bring up that gamma 2 was literally creating his “POWS” so everyone he fights can see them. You’re the first reviewer that I believe watched the movie. All of the other reviews came out before subtitles were available so they all got ahold of a synopsis of the movie and based their reviews off of that. Some reviews actually pretended like they didn’t read the synopsis and just tried to act like they’ve already seen a subtitled version. You can tell they only based their review from the synopsis because they completely miss taking about certain scenes that would clearly be remembered if you watched the film.

Still have yet to see the movie in full, but really enjoyed what I saw so far and what I'm hearing. I love all the characters Toriyama has been creating for the "modern" Dragon Ball movies, and these were no different. As far as bringing back the Red Ribbon Army goes, as well as the "relative of old villain" trope, I liked how Magenta and Dr. Hedo were handled. Magenta is fun in that he feels like he should be a complete Red clone (and its been so long since we saw Red that it could easily be justified to make him that) but he's also quite different in certain aspects. Like, most notably, he doesnt seem bothered by his height, as far as I could tell? Sure, he stands on little stools and stuff a lot, but that seems more for practical purposes than anything. Never snaps at Carmine for hovering around him either. A nice subversion, if just a small detail. Hedo is also fun in how he just has like, zero reverance for his "legacy", like Magenta brings up Gero, and Hedo just ouright says he doesnt really care and never even met him. And then he uses his Gero-style talents to create the kinda goofy super heroes he loves. Not sure if it was intentional, but I also like how here the more goofy character is related to the "Z" villain, while the more serious character is related to the "OG" villain. Something I feel has to be unintentional but I really enjoyed was Hedo and Magenta's back and forth about Cell Max. Like Magenta just being like "the Gammas suck, I want a serious, not silly weapon, so make me Cell already!" and Hedo just really not feeling that was just kinda amusing, considering how much the general (Western) fandom has been clamouring for "Resurrection C" or something. Really felt for Hedo when he was just half-assing that Cell Max project there.

Of course Mistare would prefer this over Broly not the least bit surprised. I'm so glad they made Piccolo the lead role, his protagonism during the Cell saga is severely underrated and the humour surrounding him was excellent. Gohan still has a long way to go before rivaling his peak but it's a start? It's great the film was able to sell so well despite being lighthearted and frankly taking risks by going against the status quo i.e. the saiyan show. Now if only the classic human trio can get their shine.

When I think of Pan flying I think of young Gohan... under high stress when Piccolo threw him toward a mountain he reflexively controlled his Ki and blasted it. but did not have mastery of it. Throughout Gohans childhood he struggled to realize his full potential unless his back was against the wall. Pan similarly has her back against the wall and then flies.

I agree this is a fun movie. We're way past taking the story and power scaling seriously, and I liked the comedy and some of the dynamics. I just wish some character traits weren't flanderized too much, but we could argue Dragon Ball always does it to suit it's story.

Happy 1st year anniversary DBS: Super Hero! It was definitely a fun movie! Piccolo and Pan make a great duo, I liked Dr. Hedo and the Ganmas, and it's always nice to see the Earthlings become a bit more aware of Goku and friends. However, for me personally, Beerus developing a crush on Cheelai (or Cheely, I guess) caught my attention the most! I've have been speculating for a long time what Toriyama plans to do with this development, especially with the Black Freeza arc starting (I hope) within the next few months. With so many factors to consider, I've come up with what I feel are two definitive conclusions: 1. Broli Vs Beerus is going to happen, guaranteed! They've been setting this up since "DBS: Broly", both with Goku stating that Broli could be stronger than Beerus, and that he could destroy Beerus' planet if he were to go berserk. Now, thanks to this movie, we know what will most likely kick start this fight: Beerus confronting Broli out of jealousy! 2. They're setting up the next official Dragon Ball couple; it's either going to be "Broli X Cheelai" or "Beerus X Cheelai." Call me crazy, and I could be proven wrong, but unless they plan to end Dragon Ball (for real this time) after the Black Freeza arc, my gut feeling tells me that "Beerus X Cheelai" might just be more likely!

Also, and I know I’m overcommenting, but one thing I noticed about this movie and DB Super specifically is that they seem completely ignorant of Dragon Ball’s established level of technology in both the manga and anime continuities. Suddenly, we have 21st century level tech that didn’t exist when the original story was written just permeating throughout all of DB Super, and it’s at its worst in this movie. I mean, Piccolo literally has a FaceTime call-on an iPhone no less-with Videl at the beginning of the movie, and then Bulma later on. Hell, Bulma makes a KZbin tutorial video in the Zamasu arc of Piccolo demonstrating how to use the Mafuba, and if they were trying to go for a gag, I don’t get what it is, because the lack of humor is ASTOUNDING. They even introduce something called “GodTube” that the Kaioshin use in that arc, which is just…HUH??

I watched the movie yesterday, and when I got to the part where Dende just upgrade the Dragon Balls I wished they'd make some kind of journey that's required for doing that, maybe the liquid that Dende pours into the Shenlong statue was something that would have to be made from some incredibly rare substances that Piccolo would have to find and obtain himself, it could work as a trial to justify the power up and also explain why they don't just do upgrades to them all the time. I don't know, maybe this would end up dragging the movie, but I'd take this over the scene in Beerus' Planet

I felt so weird finishing this movie. Like i loved it i really did i watched it with my friend and we came in ready to get annoyed cause modern dragon has left me with so little faith in the future of this franchise that i grew up loving. I was excepting fan wank fest and nothing more and while yes it does do that especially near the end the story itself had me smiling with joy almost all the way through i loved the gamma's there serious/goofy dynamic is fun to see even in the background cell MAX didn't piss me off to high heaven cause he's not cell brought back and he's every part of cell people disliked about him hell gohan doesn't even have a real reaction to him like PTSD attack or something cause why would he he's outlived this he's just a threat to beat, also yes this is best adult gohan im so happy to see my boy done some justice i love nerd gohan. By the end of this movie i had a ratatouille moment where i felt like a kid again just watching my favorite show not because of nostalgia nd them showing off the cooling thing ever cause yea i agree the movie giving gohan a new form is dumb and it doesn't look that good but because i actually loved the characters they feel like a group a team. I've said this before but i honestly think modern dragon ball is held back by goku and vegeta i love them i really do but the writer have no idea what to write for them anymore they feel like just the strong guys there like frieza saga goku they come in they have a cool fight but thats about it and its gotten old atleast for me. but hey 22 years and still watching and loving dragon ball so who am i to judge. So I am just going to comment on a small thing that was mentioned in this video because this annoys me to no end. The "appealing to western audiences" thing. Im sorry, but who cares what the Western audience wants. Its clearly not offering anything good. So many Japanese companies want to try and appeal to us, and ya know what? I hate it. I love Japan because they are Japan. They are unique and different. Their traditions are fun and their history is fascinating. They have ideas you wouldnt see in Western media. Is Japan perfect? I liked some parts of this movie for the same reasons mistare did but man modern DB movies having that obligatory "big dumb fight" at the end has finally finished me off. I turned off the movie by the time cell max started powering up. I'm just bored when they start fighting. Goku vs vegeta was just as lame as the ending fight. Anyway a few points: - The goal between Dr hedo and magenta was interesting but not very convincing. There's no proof presented that bulma and her "organisation" have any plans to take over the world. No weird projects or investments or even criminal activity involving anyone connected to her was demonstrated. However magenta plays the whole " they're the villains and we're the good guys" shtick followed by carmine almost causing a car crash and pulling out a gun on Dr hedo. I'm almost tempted to go with hedo knew they were bad news but wanted the opportunity to make some artifical humans but why instill the idea of heroism into the gamma twins. - Gamma 1 and 2 are acting based on the fact they are fighting bad guys, yet the logic is so flimsy making the conflict feel a bit forced. Piccolo mentions to gamma 2 that it is possible that hedo was lied to and I'm sitting there thinking " How has nobody asked that question?" It's so obvious. You can tell how little investment went into that narrative because it took carmine aiming a gun at pan for gamma 1 to change sides and completely give up on the whole capsule Corp is evil narrative. Followed by piccolo telling gohan and gamma 2 to stop fighting and they just freeze. Really shows how shallow the conflict was since the resolution didn't really solve anything since there was nothing to solve in the first place. - The dragonball wish scenes hurt my head. The whole making yourself stronger through a wish is stupid as it goes against previously established lore. Bulma and piccolo forgetting to wish goku and vegeta to earth made me pause the movie and leave my room with a body of cringe. Found these parts to just be a headache to get through. In a few scenes they came up with the worse solution for the plot while also coming up with the worst restriction for why goku and vegeta can't be here. - Gohan is a mechanic in this movie instead of a character. Piccolo artificially creating the perfect conditions for his rage boost - transformation shows that his only contribution was a necessary power up and he got TWO. There is no pretext to what the white hair form is and it looks dumb as fuck. He's just in this movie to fight two opponents who are conveniently near goku and vegeta level to make him look strong. Pure character wanking. Also why the fuck did gamma wear his RR symbol when travelling to piccolos House. For an organisation trying to keep it down low these lot get spotted easily. That whole story of red pharmaceutical being a front even though its the exact same logo as RR to me is just ridiculous 🤣.

My true problems with the movie is the stupid-looking new transformations given to Gohan and Piccolo that are more reflecting of a pity bone that Toei tossed at them rather than something that they earned or foreshadowed to be a thing. Not to mention, the new "villains" are barebone characters with absolutely no hope of being mainstains of the series, and the final villain is just a colorswap recycled character, minus personality and even reason for its existence. I genuinely cannot invision anything of this remaining canon other than the transformations, of which I dislike, so that's why I personally don't like the end of the movie. Like you said, I would much rather Pan and Piccolo adventures for the first 45 minutes other than dumb exposition and the same old character development that they give Gohan every time now. I cannot give something more than 5/10 just because the animation looks good and a single fight scene that I liked. With that said, I think this movie got rid of the Anime CGI curse. So the best praise I would like to give it is that it will remain one of the best 3D animation works to come out of Japan for a long time.
