In the show, Vegeta had a much more pragmatic reason for killing the Ginyu Force. He pointed out to Goku afterwards that the Ginyu force didn't need to be stronger than him to beat him; they could come back later and take his son hostage, or use some other underhand tactics that Goku - with his naive nature - would never think of. Vegeta might not really be a villain anymore, but he still knows how villains think. A lot more than Goku does.

The trend in DBZ is that when there's a heavily mismatched fight, the weaker fighter's special abilities tend to mysteriously fail when used on the stronger fighter. For example, Super Buu tried to turn Vegito into candy and it only partly worked. No explanation as to why Vegito retained his consciousness and power level was ever given. Also, in DBS, Goku's SSB Kaioken enables him to move during Hit's Time Skip. Again, no explanation as to how Goku could possibly move while time is frozen was given. Finally, if Ginyu could do it to someone that much stronger than him, he would've stolen Frieza's body ages ago. Why serve the guy at the top when you can _be_ the guy at the top? Or, to frame it from the other side, why would Frieza (or King Cold) trust/rely on Ginyu if he can steal their bodies whenever he wants - unless they have some kind of assurance it won't work on them?

That being said, I don't see why Ginyu would want to do that even if he could, given that he likes the job half as much as he does in Abridged. But knowing DBZ it probably just wouldn't work

I remember this episode on the original DBZ. Goku was moving so fast that you couldn't even tell he moved. He completely washed Jeice and Burter. It was so dope seeing Goku's foot imprints in the blue grass while he looked completely still showing just how fast and strong he has gotten. The Ocean dub made it perfect no other redub could ever match it not Kai neither.

If anything, the demonstration of Gotenks doing so was a demonstration of his overall "powerlevel", something that we needed to put things in perspective, especially since the idea of power levels was done away with. That's not a retcon - not to mention a lot of things were never very consistent. It's Toriyama's story. His universe. He can do whatever he wants.

In the original, Goku's ability to read Krillin's mind was not explained, or ever brought up again. "Muffin Button" is one of many running jokes I love, and it's as good an explanation as any under the circumstances

This episode has my favourite moment in the Frieza Saga. In the actual series, after Goku defeated Recoome and Burter, Vegeta did as you saw and killed them both. Goku got upset and thought Vegeta changed, Vegeta went on to lecture Goku about how violent and cruel these people are, calling them "scum" even. How they don't need to be stronger than him to beat him, how they could kidnap Gohan and lure him into a trap or if he was a few minutes late Gohan and Krillin would be dead. Saying that he was too soft, they didn't deserve any favors, even letting Jeice go could cost him his life. Goku didn't buy it, thinking that some compassion doesn't hurt. A quote from Vegeta during it: "These people are ruthless savages, Kakarot. They are WARRIORS, and they will do whatever it takes to win the game." The following episodes would go on to prove his statement.

The reason Goku doesn’t usually want to kill his enemy is simply because he LOVES fighting and getting stronger, so he likes to let them live so he can fight them again when both of them are stronger. It’s less fights to the death and more extremely dangerous sparring matches. Vegeta on the other hand hates these guys and wants them dead.

I feel this might be the best time to bring it up because of Goku's little butter comment, and tell you that all of the Ginyu Force are named after dairy products. Ginyu being the Japanese word for dairy or milk. Jeice would be pronounced more like Jeese as in cheese, Guldo would be Yoguldo or yogurt, Recoome is like an anagram of cream, and finally Burter, as Goku said, is butter. The team is also based off of the popular Japanese Super Sentai series. I know that you guys have reacted to a little bit of Super Sentai before and thought that might be a cool fact to learn. The Creator actually use Sentai as an inspiration because it was one of his kids favorite series.

The 'paragon' and 'renegade' thing is from Mass Effect where the player is often offered 2 different moral decisions to take and it's generally presented as blue paragon side and red renegade side. You're not tied to just sticking to one side, you can go with renegade even if you've gone through the paragon route earlier and vice versa. Not really too much to note in this one really. At least Vegeta's not hostile anymore even if he'd never admit to being friends with Goku.

The paragon renegade stuff at the end was a reference to Mass Effect. Introduced in Mass Effect 2 a lot of cutscenes will have prompts like the one they showed pop up on the screen (red symbol with RT) where if you clicked that in the cutscene your main character would do something renegade or paragon (renegade interrupt = red) so like for example in ME2 there's a cutscene where you're kind of threatening a bad guy and the prompt shows up, you can either ignore it and continue talking to him or you can do the interrupt and in the cutscene you instead shove him out a window.

As promised, Guru eventually delivers. Team Four Star really deliver from this point on, matching the original essentially beat for beat while keeping the laughs coming. As good as Frieza is (some would even say better than the original) the next villain is really something else, even able to keep with Vegeta and Piccolo in the shit talking department while also being a serious threat to the whole team. Vegeta, for the past few episodes has been getting a (zenkai) boost. Saiyans almost die, recover, then get a huge boost in power. It's debatable, but I count 3. Goku, Zarbon, and Recoom. Gohan technically got one too after eating the senzu bean in this episode. Goku has been working like crazy, (albeit, not for too long), after his fight/boost with Vegeta. They both needed to become absolute units as quick as possible. (Other factors to why, but imagine failing and almost losing a fight completely. To come back way way tougher. I ain't dead bitch!) And then Krillan....God.... I just feel for this man... he's literally the strongest human IMHO.

Fun episode, fun reaction, fun times all around~ Ginyu is such a professional at his job, it's pretty obvious why Frieza relies on him for so much. Guru has also definitely come into his own by this point. Also it pays to keep in mind that Jeice and Burter are at their most powerful when working together, as they have powerful team attacks that were able to completely dwarf anything Recoome could dish out. The two carry a writing trope that is commonly known as Red Oni/Blue Oni, which is a duo that is strong enough on their own but bring out their true potential as a combined force. Ginyu Force are fully in their element when they fight together. Shame that by the time they realized that they'd need to fight together to win, they had already lost Guldo and Recoome, with Ginyu busy reporting to Frieza. The happy fun game time for the Ginyu Force is definitely over now. More insane than that is that Goku's displays of power here only amount to Kaioken x2, which you might notice barely even winds him at this point. Goku can take the form all the way to x10 now, and later we'll see that even x10 isn't his limit. Power scale in DBZ is insane, and we won't see just how insane the growing power scale will get until the next season. There's a certain piece of subtle writing at this point in the Abridged run, though. The way Gohan and Goku interact has this interesting nuance to it, definitely keep in mind how they communicate with each other as it is easy to miss but comes with a narrative payoff later down the line. Leaderboard time! Recoome and Burter are down and out, but Vegeta, Gohan, and Goku all have Zenkai bonuses that push them ever upward on the scale. Still quite some distance before Frieza, though... Luckily, Goku isn't going all out yet, so even with a crazy power level like this it is clear that Goku is still holding back. Before Frieza though, Jeice and Ginyu still remain to contend with. With Goku's considerable lead, surely the Ginyu Force is more of a stepping stone at this point... Right? Also as a side note, I cannot explain this but everything I'm seeing puts Gohan at the same power level as Vegeta right now. Perhaps the closer you are to death, the larger the zenkai? Gohan was definitely minutes away from death with his battered body and broken neck, so he likely got a larger zenkai than Vegeta... But he also had more ground to cover to suddenly be right at his level. Maybe someone else can confirm, but that Potential Unlock form that Guru gave Krillin and Gohan appears to gradually unlock more and more of their power over time. Even Krillin got more power from it, though it still puts him behind the curve. Looks like this is as much power as the form is going to give them, though. Dragon Ball (1980s series) Krillen was killed by Tambourine, a demon...later retconned to be a mutated Namekian *birthed* by King Piccolo. A number of characters were killed and wished back to life; to keep death relevant though they made the rule a person can only be wished back once...and then that rule was discarded with other sets of Dragon Balls...

The original episodes featuring the Ginyu Force made it a point to show that none of them could have been taken down 1v1 by the group and how Goku's last minute save was literally the only thing that kept them from dying Guldo only died cause Vegeta sneak attacked him, Recoome *could* have been beaten if all 3 worked together, but Jaice and Burter's fighting style is based on them being a tag team and with them individually being almost as strong as Recoome there was no way they would have lost Now the only one who we haven't seen fight is the titular captain of the Force who is the strongest. And mind you , all of this is going on with Frieza still being served by them without question, amping up how scary he really is.

It's a Mass Effect gaming reference. Throughout the game, the player is giving options. In certain situations, you are given moral options. And depending on if the player picks the morally good or morally bad options, the other NPCs will start reacting to the player based off of those choices. Like attempting to hear out a possible bad guy to understand why they are doing something could be seen as a good option where as just killing someone no questions asked could be seen as a bad option. Always picking the morally good options made the player character a Paragon where as always picking the morally bad options made the player character a Renegade. When Vegeta decided to kill two of the individuals that Goku had already beaten and deemed harmless, Goku said that it wasn't "very Paragon" to which Vegeta replied "Renegade for life."
