The psychics visions were 100% accurate. Gohan is potentially the strongest fighter of the bunch. However, he doesn't actually like fighting, at all. He's more of a scholar, which has been made quite clear for a while now. Anytime Gohan does actual training, he gains power so fast. I believe Dende referring himself as 'White Mage' is a nod to the Final Fantasy game series, specially the early ones where you have multiple coloured mages and the white one is strongly associated with healing. Since White Mages are the only ones able to resurrect your fallen party members, they are extremely valuable and if anyone touches your white mage, you probably want to bring full wrath of vengeance upon them for touching YOUR healer! And yes, power levels are absolute bullshit, which is something Akira Toriyama tries to get across with the audience over and over again. But having a clear power measurement is so convenient when discussing comparative strengths between fighters, so it's most likely never going to fully die out as a concept. PS: Hello Abby! More of a cat person personally, but I love all pets.

power levels are useless to the aliens using scouters because they can't tell if this is someone's full power or just their base power, or if they're hiding their real power etc. Plus they've got attacks and transformations that can multiply their power level. But they're not useless to the audience because it's made pretty clear most of the time. Anyway, that's not really what Vegeta meant in this context either. That's basically TeamFourStar saying it's contrived that Akira Toriyama can just choose who he makes more powerful in which situation by giving them some undefined power up that seems to increase their power by just the right amount to make for an exciting fight instead of it doing something predictable by in-universe logic.

To be fair, you could argue the Third Form is pivotal to the buildup of Frieza's Final Form. His First Form is small and relatively unassuming all things considered, the Second Form made Frieza much larger and imposing, while the third twisted him and made him look monstrous; finally having his outward appearance reflect his personality So, in anticipation for Frieza's true power, you're expacting an absolute *living nightmare* for his Fourth and FINAL form , only to be met by that slick and slim design that kills a cast member the *moment* it shows up Perfectly subverting expactations while still giving the audience EXACTLY what they were promised

It's such a great joke, with Nail, being inside Piccollo's mind as a roomate, looking for some stuff to do, where Freeza is transforming and he could actually stop that.. buuut also it is an old tradition in Anime.. Fun fact: This form of Frieza is actually his true form. In the show and the manga, it explains it fully. All his other transformed states are actually suppressing his power down to a weaker state. Unlike other characters like Zarbon or the Saiyans who transform to make themselves stronger, Frieza transformed to make himself weaker. Because he's SO powerful, if he walks around in his real form, he'll leave destruction everywhere he goes. And while disciplining a minion, he might accidentally blow up the planet. And maybe another nearby planet too. So the tiny form he's in for most of the series isn't even what he really looks like. It's the "final form" that's the real Frieza. And his actual, unrepressed power.

Form 1: 530'000 (directly stated in the manga by Frieza before his fight with Nail) Form 2: 1'000'000 (Freiza, in the manga, stated it to be "just over" one million). Form 3: 3'000'000 (no official figure has been published for it, but most people go with 3'000'000 because he was able to instantly overwhelm Piccolo, but was still kind of vulnerable to Gohan's attack). Form 4: 120'000'000 (also stated in the manga appendix and is several daizenshu. Although he spends almost the entire fight using only a fraction of his power).

Frieza (Third Form) is an entire battle that can be summed up as "remember when Frieza looked weird and shot tiny lasers that messed up Piccolo?" As in, whenever that version of Frieza appears in any game, *that* is basically all he does that anyone really remembers. On my way to work so can't drop a book this time, but now that Frieza (Final Form) is here, you can see Frieza in action with all the abilities and moves you've seen from him in those super attack videos. This is the iconic Frieza look and moveset, the one everyone remembers the most. Quick update to leaderboards, Vegeta got a Zenkai and Frieza now has two new forms worth of rankings. This is the true power of the galactic emperor that Nail was dreading earlier, and by raw numbers, it really shows. Then again, as Vegeta pointed out, power levels are kind of bullshit... But look at all those four digits. The weighted clothing thing, which did show up in the Raditz fight had been a reoccuring plot element since the second arc of the original Dragon Ball show *Roshi trained Goku and Krillen using heavy turtle shells* and then Goku would use an unnaturally weighted Gi and sweat bands. Which upon removing their power levels rose as they were no longer being weighted down. While this concept did die out during DBZ it oddly comes back in some ways in later seasons *namely the final arc with Majin Buu (which abridged never gets to and instead veers off into their own thing right before, saying it that way to avoid spoilers), but do recommend after Abridged checking out Dragon Ball ShortZ and then HFIL. Anyway, in the actual show Dragon Ball Super brought back the weighted clothes but in a different way and as more of a gag than anything

So, to give some context on the Dragon Ball's power level system, it requires a bit of a long explanation. Dragon Ball is loosely based an a Chinese novel called Journey to the West. It is considered a masterpiece by Chinnese Culture. Journey to the West is a novel under the Wuxia genre. Wuxia is pretty much based of of historical Chinese Folk Tales, Religion, and legends. The Chinese use to believe that an mystical energy called Qi permeates all of existence, and that special people could utilize and absorb this Qi into their bodies through the use of Cultivation techniques to gain various powers depending on which technique you trained in. This is an extremely popular genre in China with thousands of books based off of it. Akira Toriyam basically ripped off the Journey to the West when making the Origional DragonBall, so even though it is an Japanese show, it has alot of Chinese influence. Akira changed Qi to Ki, and created Goku using the Sun Wukong character template. A hyperactive monkey who looks like a human and can copy any technique they see (Monkey see Monkey doo) So, got off topic a bit, basically, Dragon Ball characters get stronger by absorbing Ki from the air into their bodies. They can use this Ki to form energy barriers around them, fire off energy blasts, and fly. The very basics of Qi Cultivation from Chinese mythology. Dragon Ball characters however are diffrent. In Chinese mythology, Cultivators have something in their body called an dantian that stores the Qi. If you can cultivate or not depends on if you have that. They grow stronger by storing more and more Qi in their dantian. Dragon Ball Characters entire bodies are their "dantian" though. For example, all Goku has to do is physical training to strengthen his body, and more Ki will naturally fill up his body. Now in Chinese Cultivation novels, strength is ranked by stages and levels. A popular example is 9 levels and 3 stage per level. For instance, "Hey, that guy has reached the 4th level 2nd stage! I'm only 3rd level 3rd stage, so I better not mess with him!" The power grading system in chinses novels can get pretty complicated, so Akira decided to simplify it. He instead started to simply use numerical numbers as a way to grade how much Ki a character has. However, all this information is pretty much useless as the Frieza saga is the last time power levels are ever really used. After this, what determines a fighter's strength is the quality of their Ki, rather than the Quanity that determines a fighters strength. And because the power creep in DragonBall is so massive that character's power levels would be in the billions right now.

To be fair, while it wouldn't be difficult to operate in general with 100kg clothing on, laws of physics do still apply, so it's still a pretty sizeable advantage to remove it unless his own weight has been scaling up with his clothing. If Piccolo weighs 100kg (for ease of calculation) without the weights, then going from 200kg total to 100kg total means that he's still halving the energy required to accelerate at the same rate since mass is a multiplicative factor in kinetic energy.

Oh man, the frustration of "Gohan is the strongest but he doesn't do crap (at least until Super)." Guru is just the first character with mystic powers who senses immense potential in Gohan and unlocks it. It's talked up so much and never capitalized on. I heard somewhere that Toriyama originally decided to eventually write Goku out and have Gohan take his place, but eventually decided he liked Goku better and just dropped the idea of Gohan eventually surpassing his father (aside from one brief moment I'll avoid for spoilers)

That is basically what the Cell arc finale was: Goku out and Gohan in, not as a fighter like (saiyan) Goku is, but as a protector like (DB) Goku was very much driven by. Technically you might also consider the end of the Frieza saga, as Toriyama actually planned to end DBZ there.

At this point in the series, Gohan isn't the strongest in the universe, yet. He has insane potential as shown earlier in the series, so the build up of him being the strongest in the universe was shown technically in the beginning of DBZ. The part where Gohan "doesn't do crap" is a reference to where as an adult Gohan tries living a pretty normal life, as normal as his life can be as a main Dragon Ball character.

I like that they point out that the weighted clothing loses meaning since it practically weighs nothing now with how strong people have become. Likewise Vegeta points out that power levels are nonsense. By this point in the show power levels are so abusrd that quantifying them as a specific number is silly, which thankfully the story mostly abadons them as a serious concept. Instead it's kept more vague as in person X is as strong/ twice as strong as person Y. In other cases characters just sense a "strong energy" I think Freeza's third form is at a power level of 3,000,000 and his final form is like 60,000,000. That latter number being the case in point since our last mega powerful enemy aka Ginyu was at 120,000. In the og anime Freeza does wonder how Krillin was able to recover from impalement and I think he notices Piccolo just stand right back up as he's transforming. He then sees Dende heal Vegeta and realizes what's happening. He then intentionally kills Dende. It's a really chilling scene(no pun intended) since he just says "bang" and fires his finger beam at Dende. I don't recall what he says in Kai, but it's just such a ruthless, albiet smart on his end, act to do. And with his death all Namekians minus Piccolo and Kami are deceased. Nail is technically "still alive" and he does cry out in Piccolo's head when Dende dies, but Nail has next to no dialogue in the og anime. Nail and Piccolo's conversations are something TFS added since people loved their back and forths. Similar to Ghost Nappa, they went out of their way to include him where they could.

It really doesn't ever lose that much meaning though unless the characters are themselves becoming super heavy. E = 1/2MV^2. If someone has the same mass as their weighted clothing, and decides to accelerate at the same speed that they're comfortable at with the weighted clothing, by halving their total mass they also cut the amount of energy they need to do that in half. It's kind of like how Super Saiyan Big slows the user down considerably even though the extra weight is something they could probably lift with their pinky finger.

The irony is this final form isn't even Frieza's final form... of his final form. This episode is short to set up the final fight, and also TFS compressed a BUNCH of filler form the main story. Dragon Ball is the OG "omg why are they still talking" anime, and though it was outdone by Bleach and Naruto, there are still loooong stretches of content that were filled in between manga arcs.

Yeah, you guys are kinda spoiled with DBZ Abridged. They have Dragon Balls to bring people back when they die. If you were watching something else, like...say...Attack on Titan? Yeah, you'd be broken from season 1 to season 4. Practically every episode has SOMEONE dying in it. No joke.
