Fun Fact: The Line "Bitch, I drink people" from Cell is actually a reference to another Abridged series by TFS, Hellsing Ultimate Abridged. I'm sure it's one you've received recommendations for a few times while watching this. But yeah, the line is one word away from a heavily quote line spoken by the main character who is ALSO voiced by Curtis, the voice of Cell. I love how Bethany refers to Piccolo as Mr. Piccolo every time. Super sweet. If I had the time and motivation to do so, I would love to make a compilation of all the great facial expressions you guys have. This episode, especially, gives us so many great ones.

In the original show as Cell powered up, you actually see all the souls of the people Cell absorbed, swarming around him, as they screamed in pain. In a way, it's like they're not dead but trapped inside of Cell.

People keep saying that "TFS predicted that", but they only did that joke because 17 becoming a park ranger was already something that Toriyama stated in interviews about what was his deal at the end of Boo. Then the anime added to that by making him point his gun to poachers so they raise their arms for Goku.

The reason this arc seems to go from villain to villain to villain is that toriyamas editor would see the new villain design and be like "that's not the big bad right? You have something better? Come back with something better next month" so the villains went from fat clown and old man to weird teens to redhead robot to bug monster, to evolved bug monster. His editor hated every design

I think it traces back to 17's last appearance in DBZ, the (i think) 3rd to last episode, when they summon the spirit bomb to defeat kid buu. 17 is shown holding 2 hunters up with a shotgun, makes them raise their hands to help, is kinda random. I think TFS thought he looked like a park ranger and ran with it.

In the original, Piccolo sees the “ghosts” of the thousands of people Cell consumed after their first fight. This is the episode where I feel like consequences are realized. It comes at a time where the dragon balls don't exist anymore and you actually see non background characters actually killed. It really brings to light the seriousness of the situation, but it's blended so well with the occasional comedy punch that it doesn't feel completely hopeless. Absolutely love how into it you two are.

I adore the 16 vs Cell moment in this episode. The guy's a unit lol. I also really enjoyed seeing how much you are invested in Piccolo's survival. Also, cell gets stronger when he absorbs people, but 17 and 18 are what he needs to 'evolve' I guess. In RPG terms, he spent a lot of time farming for EXP before going to find 17 and 18. They'd have likely done him dirty if he showed up at the same power level as when he fought Piccolo that first time. Awesome reaction as always.

funfact: if it wasn't obvious that yellow aura around cell is indicative that he had become a Super Sayian, that's why Piccolo had become afraid of his power. also something important to note: in this timeline 17 and 18 never killed a single person besides Dr. Gero, who is maybe the greatest monster Dragon Ball has ever produced, as much as they were antagonists they were never villains. And this is all because they had 16 to remind them of why humanity is precious, ironic that the one without a heart would prove to be the heart of the group.

Android 17 and 18 were given, and the fanbase can correct me on this, infinity drives. That gives them unfathomable stamina and endless energy. Him absorbing them boosts his abilities greatly, and I think that's why he transforms. Because that much power accelerates his evolution process.

Oh man Cell just got so much grosser & more terrifying the fact that he just took on Piccolo 16 & killed 17 is horrifying. Seeing Gohan’s anger when Piccolo died was incredible I hope he can get his revenge. It was also so wholesome how 16 was trying to protect his siblings. Cell really meant it when he said he wanted them inside him at the very least he keeps his word.

16 joining the fight was still something that blew my mind in the original, especially since he's just casually stronger than Kami fused Piccolo, who really was a juggernaut at this time. I don't remember if Abridged showed the rest, but it was in Xenoverse, so you've seen it. Hell Flash wasn't just a straight beam, but a blast that erupted several beam of light from underneath the ground to the sky. The fact that Cell survived that, while expected at some capacity, was also a great depiction of just how powerful he was.

In the future in Dragon Ball Super C17, he is a park ranger. There was also a reference to this in the Trunks movie when the androids said they got bored of destroying and C17 said he basically always wanted to be a park ranger. And then Trunks or Gohan flew in and pissed them off again xD

9:45 just in case, this is why the distinction between 17 and 18 actually being *cyborgs* and 16 being a proper *android* is important. The former is a human that has been enhanced technologically, usually cybernstuc implants, while the latter is a machine that is built to *look* and *act* human.

I love how TFS acknowledged that the Androids never wanted to be evil and that was all Gero's influence, at the end of the Future Trunks Special, teasing this moment with 17 believing that destroying things was boring and pointless before their final battle with Trunks. The key difference between that timeline and this one is Android 16 not being woken up in Trunk's future.

Piccolo is basically a Surrogate Father to Gohan, we see him kidnap him, train him, to slowly start coming to care about him and Gohan the same for him in return. Whenever Gohan is in danger, Piccolo is there to help him. Goku is a father...But a very irresponsible Father whos not all together with how a father "should" be

It's funny how you call it good writing that we switch from androids to cell so smoothly. Originally dr.gero and 19 were supposed to be the big bads, but then editors told toriyama he was too old, so he made 17 and 18, but then they were just teens so he pushed him to change again, so we got cell. Again they didnt like first form cell and pushed him to change it, which is why cell is how he looks now. Toriyama somehow managed to make all of this work on such short notice, and team 4star took that and made 17 and 18 so likable so this turn would be more impactful

They forgot 2 things : First, Cell is trying to reach his perfect form, he already knows he has to absorb C-17 and C-18 to get there. (They forgot it was mentionned during the first Piccolo/Cell fight). Second, C-17 and C-18 haven't actually killed anybody yet in this time period except maybe during the C-18/Vegeta fight where Vegeta might have also killed people. (They are confusing the Trunk's future version of the androids with this version).
