Ape Gohan is destroying shit, first thing Piccolo does is destroy the moon and screw up the Earth's ecosystem. You want to protect the world from Vegeta and Nappa? Fine, but there won't be an Earth left if you keep doing stuff like this. I guess it was the only way. Besides Kami could probably do what he did to Goku and remove Gohan's tail before restoring the moon.

Minh Nguyễn That was nearly a year before Nappa and Vegeta arrived, ample time for a new tail to sprout. Typically it takes a child Saiyan anywhere between months and a year for its tail to grow back if it gets cut or torn off. The only ways to permanently remove a tail are magic (which is what happened to Goku’s tail) or to chop it off when the Saiyan is an adult.
