That sounds great on paper, but I can almost guarantee that it would get tedious the farther you get. Also, a DBS game would be difficult to make due to the major fights taking place on one planet or location, rather than the constant adventure/location hopping in DBZ/DB (although, the most recent chapters of the DBS manga have been having the characters move around a lot, so there's that).

I am a huge dbz fan but I think I played this game at the wrong time. Sure the combat can be cool as hell, but I am playing this after just having recently finished Red Dead Redemption 2, Witcher 3 GOTY, and Horizon Zero Dawn. Those 3 games are legendary in my opinion in exploration, side activities, story and just as RPGs in general. Playing Kakarot after these left A LOT to be desired. It's just .... average, which is a huge shame.

@@Whistler112 Horizon zero dawn legendary side activities? I only consider TW3 an rpg, other two are open world games. If I did consider HZD and RDR2 RPGs i'd consider them pretty awful rpgs because they're linear and provide little roleplaying value. RDR2 due to it's sandbox elements fairs much better, outside of the story RDR2 lets you have that outlaw experience your way. Problem is actual sandbox games like Kenshi are miles better at that, much better roleplaying experiences with vastly more depth, variety, simulation and agency.

it seems to me that they finished their story battles and then started the open world stuff. Then the release schedule was too tight so everything not including the main story is pretty barbones and while it is fun to explore some hours and see what it has to offer, most of it is there, but not well implemented and impactful. hunting dinosaurs for example... this could have been really fun... instead you can just fly over them and clunkily shoot ki blasts. i love the game, but it had so much more potential. even worse, the systems and open world stuff that's already there has way more potential without even much effort. Edit: got distracted and forgot my point. I guess they didn't want you to get these ridiculous amounts of xp gifted, but earned through the open world... they had no time to implement it as planned so now you just get random xp. I have that guess, because some fights are really imbalanced aswell. For me the Radditz fight felt way harder than any fights following until vegeta... and even the vegeta fight... first one is easy, but at least a little challenging... his ape form is down in about 2 combos because it only has 10k life unlike the fight BEFORE where he had about 70-80k life. The balance is all over the place.
@Nerooxidus4 жыл бұрын
@@RaxXxvell with just watching several reviews i can definitely see where they tried to improve the game but also where they didn't have time to do so, the random xp is definitely because of the lack of open world and side quest xp they offered, it also seemed like they just had that baked in incase they couldn't distribute that amongst the quests, the game seems pretty cool, and i wanna get it, but i can definitely see the problems it has

The problem with that is that the casual player of today would be completely pissed if the game did that to them. They would complain the game is broken and say that is now unbeatable because it was poorly made. Just look at people complaining about Assassin's Creed Odyssey gating story missions with a level requirement. A lot of people would say it was made like that to encourage people buying the Exp boost, but if you do some side content here and there you are always waaaay past the level requirements.

I think my verdict on the game is this: For a dragonball game, it's pretty alright, but as a game its pretty lacking It feels like a lot of its systems are just there to say "we have systems", but don't actually flow together in any super fun way, all of the side activities feel pointless. I would love to have more meaningful content and side activities. Hell even have a little mini game with Chi-Chi making you dinner for your stat boost meals would be fun. Have the red ribbon armies basses be little dungeons you can fight through Have the fishing only be done with bait and make the bait a little more rare. Something. Not to mention the constant feeding of XP makes it feel like it's holding your hand. It reminds me of that one Final Fantasy game that was intentionally made to be watered down for westerners because the Japanese thought we were too stupid for RPGs. Like it feels like a fake RPG. You know how in your previous impressions video you felt like you ran short on orbs? I never had that issue because the game drip feeds you stuff at such a slow pace, you never actually get to have any choice in your abilities because its just going to give you what the character had at that time. It would have been nice to have more character customization in terms of like accessories or abilities. Not saying piccolo should toss out a Kamehameha, but something better than the boring character building they gave you. In terms of stylization CC2 did a pretty okay job. I wish there were more of those hyper animated scenes (Like Tien holding off Cell with his Tri Beam is a badass moment why wasn't that given a nice paint job. ) but It just makes more of the more wooden animations feel flat. Not to mention that wish some of the boss battles had those mid fight QTE's like in the Storm series. I get the bosses have cinematic attacks,but it would have been nice to have more.

If I may I agree with some of your points and disagree with a lot more. Anyone who has played a cyber connect to game should have expected that not all of these cutscenes were going to be stellar and magnificent I don't know why anyone had that expectation in their head that everything would be movie cutscenes.That being said I do have a problem with the numerous amount of the skippable dialogue anime cutscenes that have been in these games for several years now including the storm series. In terms of the combat it can be very much like Xenoverse in hectic times which I don't like however what for me saves it is that unlike that game your characters feel much more responsive fast and fluid Xenoverse to me ever since the first game your characters feel like they're being literally weighted down by a truck. Xenoverse has never felt fast and fluid to me. People say this game is lacking combat depth I disagree to a degree when you're in a boss fight you do need to know what you're doing You cannot just spam buttons and the game makes you balance offense and defense however you don't have access to a lot of combos You have more access to combo hits as you go down the skill tree. When you think about it however Xenoverse only has two three basic combos per character whether that is CAC or the base roster of characters.I don't know why for the life of me people think that the combat of Xenoverse is in depth I think it's atrocious and even though this game only gives you one basic combo instead of three I feel that it is more in depth because it forces you to balance your offense and your defense whereas Xenoverse if you want to just spam super attacks you are more than welcome to the slow net code and the online play makes that almost the only way to play. You're more than welcome to spam super attacks here as well but you will die.The AI doesn't need improving and the game definitely needs an overall difficulty bump as well as endgame content if they want people to reach the ridiculous nonsense level cap of 250 but if you eat enough meals to boost your stats I personally have been able to take out quite a few of the level 170 enemies and I am only with Goku Gohan and Vegeta around level 120 a piece. The story mode does give you an absurd amount of EXP but if you want to take on the villainous enemies you are going to have a far tougher time if you don't grind out some of the side quests and quite frankly even though they're repetitive if you're just not willing to do the side quests and do the story and blitz through it as fast as you can Not only will you be severely underleveled despite doing the story missions but you're missing out on more than half of the game So while the side quests are repetitive I do think they're worth doing when it comes down to it there is only one game that has done side questing correctly it has been the king of side questing and I don't expect any game in this decade maybe even the next to top that and I am of course speaking of the Witcher 3.I don't think any developer is ever going to do side questing the way that they did where every quest is meaningful and interesting. There are some fights that are not in the game and I don't know why that is but given the fact that they did so well with 90% of the story and retold it's so beautifully unlike anything DBZ has ever seen I'm going to let that go as long as the DLC content is quite frankly fantastic.overall I haven't had this much fun with dragon Ball z since Budokai 3 and that is my honest opinion and those have somewhat more in-depth combat systems but not by much. When taking the nostalgia glasses off and replaying some of the older games they're just as repetitive as this game in terms of combat sure you have more combos but every character has the same basic layout and some characters even have the same supers.it's a fighting game to a degree and therefore two a degree it's going to be repetitive but for the people just smashing buttons of course you're not going to get anywhere you do need to block and Dodge etc. All of this being said the game for me gets an 8 out of 10 I'm not so blind to give it a perfect score it's not a perfect game but I think it's personally one of the best dragon Ball z games ever created in terms of its basic platform it's got a lot to stand on because it's a JRPG they can practically add in the entirety of the super saga if they wanted to. I guess I'm one of those fans that knew what cyber connect 2 was going to do because I played all the storm games therefore I expected most of the cutscenes not to be movie cutscenes I think for some reason a lot of fans thought the entire game were going to be stellar movie like cutscenes and that's just not going to be the case. mind you I do wish that there were more of the movie styled cutscenes as they're absolutely gorgeous but as of right now for me DBZ Kakarot gets an 8 out of 10 but is it worth a 9 or 10 Right now no there's not enough content but in time we'll have to see what they come out with.

@Divinital i dont think its average, more like the game has tons of potential but CC is still planning on updating the game for years to come
@mattmanley71184 жыл бұрын
@@18ps3anos I really don't think it's that average when you compare it to something with the budget of red Dead redemption or even the Witcher of course it's going to be average in comparison to those games The Witcher 3 is the king of side questing and I think they will remain the king of side questing for decades to come and I literally mean decades to expect this game to have the same level of polish I think fans were a little in over their heads and it's the same thing with the cutscenes anyone who actually knew cyber connect 2 should know that even the storm games had the same problem everyone expected there to be movie cutscenes every single second and there wasn't. Fans should have expected most of the cutscenes were going to be lower quality dialogue the typical trend in anime games in the last five six years type of cutscenes with these super over the top spectacle cutscene sprinkled in. If anything in my opinion I find Xenoverse more average than this Xenoverse is such a cop out concept and it was executed and milked to death for DLC so poorly all they gave people were character skins and what did people do they just continued to use their CAC's because the net code is so awful in that game The only way to win is to use the same five moves out of the monumental move pool given in the entire game and spam them to death.while you can spam your moves in this game it's not recommended and you will die You need to block and dodge and counter in Xenoverse 90% of the player base ranked or otherwise simply spams their super attacks. For me Xenoverse was the ultimate cash grab easy to milk and pump out DLC of low quality while never fixing the online net code.this game doesn't have those problems therefore I find it to be the superior game and quite frankly finally anyone who thought the side quests were not going to be repetitive is out of their minds no developer is going to top the Witcher 3 and ever since that game came out I'm finding more and more that people are expecting every game with side quests to be as top quality as The Witcher it's not going to happen If anything I think it's a testament to just how God damn good The Witcher 3 is but it shouldn't be used as the end all be all.

I can enjoy and distract myself with the game easily, but I have to look beyond that for legit criticism.

@@ufazig let's be realistic here any game with side quests is going to be repetitive nothing is going to top The Witcher 3 everyone expects side quests to be like The Witcher 3 because the Witcher 3 did it in such a monumental way where every side quest actually was meaningful and no game to my knowledge has ever been able to come close to the Witcher 3 side questing abilities. I do think this review is a little harsh and I respect the heck out of the content creator where he is right is that the game does lack endgame content there's no purpose to grind up the level 250 which is the rumored maximum level there's not enough content to get you there.The side quests are linear they are repetitive but as I said I'm going to let it slide because this is not the only game that has linear repetitive side questing every other game in the universe has it and nothing is going to top the witcher. So the side questing honestly doesn't bother me in terms of the cutscenes that massively bothers me there are these great moments much like in the storm series where the cutscenes are animated so beautifully and the rest of the game are these dialogue cutscenes That I have a problem with however I can't really complain about it because I know what cyber connect to does and what they're known for and I expected to cut scenes to be as such in the interim. This game is not perfect by any means and I am a hardcore fan but let me tell you if they add more end game content to this game over the course of time I can easily see myself loving this game more than the beloved Budokai 3. As it stands now and it's present state I would make this game equal to Budokai 3 I have not had this much fun with dragon Ball z since that game So that says a lot.

@@mattmanley7118 Yes, RPGs tend to have that problem, save for the witcher 3 that manages quite the feat. But I guess kakarot really regressed in quest design. Fetching quests and talking quests? This is free MMO level. And the immersion in the game is not sufficient, especially with the "semi-transition" during fights. I guess someone said it better than me, they should have made the side quests being the movies. It adds more to the game without getting repetitive. I also think we should be able to fight and free roam at the same time, like an action RPG. Fighting dinos and other creatures. And of course, getting rid of the many loading screens. They could've done better. But it's not a bad game by any means, especially for a fan. I can't say for the future though. Obviously DB super will be DLC. But we'll have to wait and see. Game has a lot of potential with later additions, but the base game is lacking beyond the main quests.

I gave the game a 7 out of 10. Like you said the game skips important scenes like GOHAN going ssj. But what really got me is in one of the trailers you clearly see vegeta charging the final flash and I thought FINALLY a game recreates that scene in game form which has never been done in any dbz game with cutscenes. Well get to that part and nothing... it was at 8 out of 10 but it lost a whole point for skipping a scene they had in a trailer clearly. Someday I will get vegeta's final flash in game cutscene form or at least I hope 🥺😒

I disagree taking the nostalgia blinders off and recently replaying Storm 4 it can be just as repetitive as this game combat wise You have three combos just like you do in Xenoverse to my knowledge the storm games used to have four combos apiece and they removed one I believe it's the left and right combo. The storm games have become extremely repetitive to me but for their time they were absolutely ridiculous in terms of quality but I don't think those games are any better than this game I think that these are actually on an even playing field both tell the story very well Storm 4 being the ultimate retelling but the combat is the same the buttons are exactly the same as this game in terms of one button is used to do your limited combos and special moves I don't think there's anything more special about the storm games than there is this game. That being said fighting games by their nature whether in depth or not are repetitive and that's what the challenge is how do you break that repetitiveness it's very hard to do.

For what it is I enjoy it, however one thing I want is more characters to play as, they have this thing where you can revive old enemies and defeat them and afterwards it implies these guys will change their ways and be good, but then there is no pay off besides a soul emblem, missed opportunity to have the revived villains become playable, obviously they can't be used in the story mode but that's alright, all I want to do is fly around and kick butt as Raditz (my favorite character) But besides this I still have fun, sure not everything is to my liking but hey you can't hit gold on the first attempt, if this game gets a sequel I guarantee it'll probably be one of the top 5 best Dragon Ball games ever

@mattmanley71184 жыл бұрын
Fighting games in JRPGs by their nature can be very repetitive and get very tiring very quickly That's what's so hard to break I think they did a very good job with this game given its basic platform without DLC and because it's a JRPG that tells the story so well DLC the possibilities are limitless we'll just have to wait and see what they do but I do agree that I wish there were more minigames and quite honestly repetitive side questing or not I would like to have had more of them to do. There's a lot of them but I wanted more whenever the time machine becomes functional and we are able to go back in time and essentially do the side quests we missed I only have maybe six side quests I'm missing the entire game So after that the game is complete to me So I think they could stand to add more mini games etc Heck I hope they expanded the training room because that's one of the best parts of the game for me. There's a lot they can do we'll just see if they have the budget and the time to support this game and I think that they will

@@mattmanley7118 We're going to be in a few threads together. When I first heard this game was announced I had so many hopes of what I wanted a Dragon ball RPG to be. Whether it'd be that amazing sandbox experience that let's play my own character or that extremely story focused experience that would provide my main cast of characters the same dilemmas these characters really faced within the series and for there to be a branching structure that allowed me to experience the triumphs, consequences and ultimate outcomes of what my Goku and my Gohan decided to do faced with these obstacles. That's why I don't really want another Japanese so called 'rpg' Dragon ball game. There's so many amazing western games that have explored roleplaying through strong stories, amazing sandboxes or deep simulation and interaction. Having one of those with the Dragon ball title on the box would be awesome. As someone who plays games like these I find the mentality of paying for your game and then being excited to wait until at your expense there's some decent content put into the game so foreign. After beating the story yesterday. I realized the rpg system doesnt make sense at all. No difficulty settings + scaling enemies + healing items = easy story -> Vegeta gohan goku have highest levels because of story exp -> each character shares experience points (not just the ones in your current party) -> enemies scale to highest level character (not just the ones in your current party) -> lower characters deal only 1 damage to higher scaled enemies -> use higher leveled character (goku gohan vegeta) to beat enemies and level up lower level characters (because exp is shared) --> higher level character get exp as well (because exp is shared) so will always stay highest level -> enemies keep scaling to high leveled characters (goku, gohan, vegeta) = flawed Rpg system loop -> no point having other characters until level cap of 250 is reached.

Apparently the top-tier cutscenes are pre-rendered. On consoles this isn't a problem as the output is 1080p, but on pc, where you can go upwards of 1080p, it is, since these scenes are only available in 1080p, leading to a drop in quality. Other cutscenes are rendered in-game, but don't have the same animation quality. This would also explain a lot, since in these top-tier cutscenes there are a lot more effects than are actually in the game, take the clothing for example: in the top-tier cutscenes they move along with the wind, but not in the actual game, or any other cutscene. Normally this would greatly subtract from the experience, but luckily, these amazing cutscenes are present where it matters most.

I would give this game a B rating as per your criteria. I think the RPG concept in dragon ball Z is an unique concept . The combat system grew on me and the challenges were somewhat entertaining ( got annoying at the end game ) . I too have finished the game and have the platinum trophy . But this game feels like a one time play as there is literally nothing to do after getting that platinum trophy . They should add the dragon ball super series as it would be exciting to play as beerus and other characters . Although the game is boring at the end , I couldnt stop myself from playing this game before earning the trophy and it was a unique experience and the game was focused on many small details which other dragon ball games have failed to do . It was definitely a different experience from xenoverse 2

Bit of a hot take, but I think Dragon Ball games (be it classic, Z, Super, GT or anything else) work better as RPGs than they do as fighting games (or at least an RPG/fighting hybrid like Xenoverse or Fighter Z story mode). The entire point of Dragon Ball (especially Z and onwards) is training and power levels, and those two things are key mechanics in almost every RPG, so I think DB and RPG mechanics really fit together. You can feel yourself becoming stronger as you progress, and that's basically what happens in actual Dragon Ball. Plus in RPGs you don't have to worry about roster balance or anything like that, so in true Dragon Ball fashion you can use all the broken stuff you want and nobody would bat an eye. Also... "no super no movies" but what about the DLC?

What other mini games, side quests or gimicks other games had that were really fun/ added to the game experience/ or seemed to really tie in with the rest of the game? My nomination would be Gwent from The Witcher 3. It was a simple but fun card game that was weaved into the game's entirety. You could solve problems by playing Gwent. You could collect cards from various locations and people. There was even a tournament that made it feel like the deck that you made was worth building. Most importantly however, I found myself wanting to play Gwent over and over again, just as much as the main game. It was extremely fun, but completely optional. What do you guys think? What's your Gwent in a game (didn't have to be a card game.) Have you tried the standalone Gwent version on PC and iOS?

I noticed some censorship in the game. For example: When Gohan goes Oozaru against Vegeta, when Gohan reverts from that form he is wearing pants. In the original, he was butt naked. I understand why THAT was removed from the game but then you look at another example: In the Buu arc, I remember Buu's dog getting shot. But in the game, Mr. Satan gets shot. It's little things like this that bug me.

I honestly didn't mind the sidequests. For me the BIG thing that bugged me was the L O N G cutscenes that could have easily had more content put in them. Like add Snake Way, Princess Snake, training on King Kai's, let us fight in the World Tournament. How cool would it have been if as Videl we fight against Spopovich and he's the ONE unbeatable boss? Your healing items are locked and you do very little damage to him and its just relentless beating on you until you're done? It'd hit the player much harder at how hopeless that situation is than just showing a mediocre cutscene. Another complaint, yes, I know this is following the anime, but the promotion for the game centered around Goku. This is going to be a GOKU story. Even the Vegeta trailer talked about how amazing Goku is. In the end, it ends up being a Gohan story and I felt like Gohan in the anime going "Man, I wish Goku was around." because he never is. (SPOILER) I was a bit peeved that this speech ends up being what Vegeta says at the end of the game. (End Spoiler) It cutting out the battle with Trunks and Cell and various other battles like Buu VS Evil Buu, Buu VS Kid Buu etc kinda left me as a player going "Man. I really wish it was me doing this fight. My LARGEST complaint though is the ease of the game. I liked the fighting system, but there's no reason Frieza, Cell and Majin Buu should be as easy to beat as a Red Ribbon Robot from Dragon Ball you fight in the overworld. They NEED to go in and raise the defense of these characters or extend their lifebars to absurd degrees. Something to make these enemies stand out aside from their movesets and make a boss feel like an ACTUAL boss. I want to feel accomplished when I beat a boss in a game. I want to lose/almost lose. I want something to overcome. I went into this expecting the fights to be Kingdom Hearts quality, especially from the demo seeing Raditz with 16 health bars. I'm considering next time I play the game just not doing ANY side missions in hopes that being under leveled will make the later half of the game fun. I liked the Saiyan and the Namek saga, but Frieza onward it felt like a dip in quality and things became a chore to do. The side missions were actually fun for me. The fetch quests didn't bug me because I tend to explore in games and had hundreds of the item they sent me to go find usually unless it was specialized for that mission. I liked the little lore bits. It was a break from the absurdly easy combat. I wish we had more fights like Bonyu or the secret boss after beating all the villainous enemies whom I was was replayable, which made the ease of the game all the more frustrating, because those fights are what the entire game should have been.

I barely watched dragon ball in my life, not a big fan either, but I played Xenoverse 2 and FighterZ, so I decided to play this one too. This game actually made me love the whole concept of dragon ball. I thought the basic story o Z was crap, but I was super wrong. The other games did not make me apreciate DB like this one did. Going to even Watch the movies and DBSuper now. So yeah, the game is good even for non fans

i don't know why, but i love dbz kakarot more than any other dragonball game. i lost my interest in dragonball years ago, never had anything to do with dragonball since a long time, loved it as a child. every now and then when new dbz games came out, i bought them cheap and thought, maybe its not so bad. i never liked most of the dragonball games after tenkaichi 3 (which was great!), i really really disliked xenoverse for some reason. db z kakarot got me back into dragonball and for the very first time i might start watching dragonball super afterwards. i couldn't quite connect with dragonball super before.

Damn dude, you are fast. Well I only started after your first video though, I beat Frieza, currently playing as Vegeta in the Intermission to the Androids... this is game is amazing. Aaaand not so amazing with all the fetch quests, side missions, easy combat, repetitive, etc... But hey it's DBZ.

I'm just happy that this game sold as well as it did so we can get more Bamco Games that should've been localised already

To me it's a good game if you love dragon ball and wanna pass some time playing a single player game or just wanna play something different for a change. It's a good game to chill and play and fly around doing side missions and what not. I do agree that it is disappointing that they took out key moments like Vegeta's final flash, piccolo's hell zone grenade and other stuff cuz it kinda took away from immersion into the story when you get to a special moment and realize it didn't happen. Kinda like opening a big present then finding out the huge box was actually empty.

So to make this a better game they have to: introduce a difficulty mode or make the enemies harder to beat, make the side missions, and activities more fun in the long run (not just a novelty the first play time,) reduce the amount of loading screens, make the items useful by scaling their effects, make the side quests have more varying activities instead of just, fetch, fight or follow the trail of people... Anything that I missed?
