Ladies and gentlemen, our legend Kikuchi has passed away from an aspiration pneumonia, age 89. He has composed too many tunes to count even if you exclude the entire Dragonball franchise. His last work might be an insert song for one of the sentai ranger series, Goseiger. May he RIP.

Kikuchi drew upon many influences for Dragon Ball’s music, using a variety of instruments no others have managed so effortlessly for the franchise. His music could be whimsical, bombastic, tense, hopeful, exciting, remorseful, really anything. After he departed the franchise, nothing else could capture the same magic.

Hearing this again made me tear up knowing that Shunsuke Kikuchi is now gone. I know there’s this huge discourse over the English and Japanese score for Dragon Ball Z but I don’t care. This man’s music was what gave Dragon Ball its personality and life and I will forever be grateful for that. Rest In Peace, Kikuchi-san and thank you.

It's real apparent in the movies, and even from the original series till end of Z. He had complete commsnd of the notes he wrote, he knew it all like the back of his hand. And this is no exaggeration, the incarnations he gives his themes are nothing short of genius.

Fun fact: Even composers like Kohei Tanaka (One Piece) and Yasuharu Takanashi (Naruto Shippuden, FT) have a great respect for Kikuchi's work and name. The former even started out under him as an arranger!

This is real music, actual string instruments that make us feel the wide ranging atmosphere of Dragon Ball. American, so called "music" is nothing more then a computer being lobotomized and a cheesy sounding keyboard with techno rock whereas Japanese soundtrack is live music orchestration. Unlike american, the Japanese original version captured the intensity and emotion that went into this story. Kikuchi's scores always had that magnificent quality of being able to reach the soul with its images, its sound, and its music. Without doubt a series that was enjoyed with the heart more than with the head. Japanese> American

I will always love the Japanese soundtrack. Does anyone know why Funimation decided to change the soundtrack for no apparent reason? Because in the Dragon Ball dub, they left the original music, but with DBZ and DBGT they changed it completely.
@sageofdajaganeye29298 жыл бұрын
They wanted dragon Ball z to be more American so they had an American composer make the music for the American version of dbz that's why there's alot of filler in the American one and the dialogue is incorrect according to the Manga. but n the English version of dbz kai, which is a remake of the American but with dialogue more accurate to the Manga and upgraded quality in HD and the music was done by a Japanese composer and they brought back Kikuchi's music into it
@danielquinlan24577 жыл бұрын
I believe it's at least partially because they could get royalties by having their own musical score played on TV or something like that.
