In DBZero we can see how Toyotaro tried to be faithful to the original source, the Bardock special & and the information we got in the series from Raditz, Vegeta and Freeza about the Saiyan culture. It feels real and belivable. Especially Bardock. He is just like his former self but gets a small scene with Raditz that doesn't ruin him or contradict his character from his own special. Minus unfortunately changed him enough that you can say he's a reimagination of the charactee of Bardock. The same as old DBZ Broly and Super's Broly. I wished DB Minus had never came, sigh.

That was the point when Toriyama introduced the Saiyans back in DBZ with Raditz, Vegeta, Nappa. Toei Animation did a good job staying in the same tracks of "the Siayan are evil Space Spartans" theme when they did the Bardock special. Alot of people are forgetting the Saiyans were introduced to be even more evil than Piccolo. Piccolo, the embodiment of the devil to this point in the DB storyline. It reaches a point where the "reason" why Bardock was a fan favorit for decades although he was starring only in one single special, was twisted recently and all his essential character traits are taken from him. Mhm, but that's just my opinion.

Braddock was a fan favorite not because “He was like Super Duper Evil” but literally because it was a storyline Toriyama hadn’t written yet, something everyone begged for in the early nineties. Backstory. They knew of Braddock, but that’s it. People wanted more. Toei made a terrible special off one quick scene in Z that was just... my god, full of plot holes and riddled with that nasty taste of filler. “I CAN SEE THE FUTURE NOW U CAN TOO AND U GOTTA BEAT UP FREIZA CUZ HES SUPER EVIL AND EVEN THOUGH YOU THINK HE RESPECTS YOUR POWER HE DONT HES GONNA KILL YOU” Toriyama’s Minus vision, whether fans like it or not was always his original vision. The Sayians were never meant to be ‘evil’ like at all. They were meant to be barbarians who truly found their own strength worth the price to the Galactic Overlords. Baddack in minus was what Toriyama saw them as. A race of semi-powerful warriors who once thought their strength able to rival the Galactic Overlord; and so confident were they in this and King Vegeta’s ignorant assumptions that they actually were they ended up being brought down by their own ignorance (Vegeta) and Pride (Baddack)and that’s that. They weren’t meant to be “Rivaled to King Piccolo in terms of Evil” they were meant to be viewed as a barbaric race that relished in fighting. Vegeta was probably the only thing meant to rival Piccolo in terms of pure evil.

Unless Tenshinhan got a power boost, and I'd be 100% okay with it, flippin' the bird to all the haters, because he's LONG overdue for it... But like... Even though 17 proved useful in the fight in the Tournament of Power, and he was utility-based... The fight where he's as strong as Goku's post-training Super Saiyan 3 fight actually ruined it. If they never showed that battle, I think I would've never noticed a power-boost from 17 - but knowing that it's there because of a comparison completely ruined that for me. Gohan training just a little bit and becoming as powerful as Super Saiyan Blue was just "what?" for me. Roshi... WTF. Yeah, kinda came out (admittedly) a little bit cool, but... COME ON... Goku Black getting punched and becoming more powerful without anime-explanation was a travesty that ruined most of the arc with him for me. And I'm not even getting started on Trunks' random Super Saiyan "Rage/Anger" transformation. The list goes on, but yeah... I'm mostly against random power boosts as well. Glad we're on the same page.

Both of these stories are much better than what we got in db minus. Making Bardock a caring Saiyan just made Goku's orgin too much like Superman, with the whole escaping a doomed planet to live a better life on a safer world. Plus it fixes the whole evil Goku situation with Turles.

Somehow this, AND AF were Toyotaro's peak performance for Dragonball illustrations! I find he seems to be rushing when making the Super manga.. cause his detail in AF and this is .. well, beyond Super. His weird angular artwork seemed to be a rather unique take, but now it's kind of a detriment to his work. So stiff, what happened Toyotaro :( Also, tbh ANYTHING is better than Dragonball Minus, if you think about it, Minus ruins the ENTIRE franchise of Dragonball. Goku being the age of 5, knowing his father AND mother, but for some reason being a ferocious child? Where is his armor now? He was said to be a baby when he arrived on Earth not a 5 year old child. Saiyans being 7,000 in numbers is rather... puny. And kinda diminishes the Saiyans great strengths and their feared title across the universe. I feel Dragonball Z: Bardock, Father of Goku special was the PERFECT movie and origin story for Goku's Saiyan heritage. It shows that the Saiyans are a rather large population vs the almost ... nil they are in the Minus special. Bardock is quite ruthless and I love it. Akira, while I know he IS the creator, has been ruining the series since he returned. He's old now, and he's vocally said he doesn't like the Dragonball franchise, and that his fans actually know more than he does about his series(I forget the interview but had seen it on KZbin nearly a decade ago.. Hopefully it's still up.) He is a man of the fans though and I respect him for that. People wanted him to return and make the series back to greatness, but he ended up ruining it like Toei did with GT, just.. somehow people are eating it up, or turning a blind eye I cannot tell. Here I thought I was blinded by loyalty to this series, but damn.. some y'all are INTENSE. Just slap his name onto the project and people will preach it like gospel.

Agreed completely. Who in his right mind prefers Minus over the Bardock special? It's a shame brand recognition became so important recently. People literally thirst for Toriyama's name being slapped on every Dragonball story/product. Despite knowing this old man peaked decades ago and is ruining his own legacy slowly but steady. I actually think this was is best original story, because it seemed like the most fitting into the canon that it could have worked as a backstory. Its honestly like Minus but done better in my opinion. Bardock is still in Character and the Saiyans still act like they were portrayed in Z. It does also did a lot to explain Raditz's fighting nature, his willingness to cheat and much him and Turles fit together. Then the way Vegeta and Nappa find him and recruit him as a survivor, making much more sense than Raditz and Vegeta somehow teamed up despite the class gap in Minus.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Turles ends up being the next movie character to become 100% canon to the story like with what happened with Broly. He's definitley a fan favorite, and probably up there in terms of characters who fans want to see more of/return (probably only behind Cooler and/or Janemba). The Fruit of the Tree of Might is a "perfect cop-out" for his strength to be astronomical and comparable to the main cast's, as it could just be said that he's been eating it his entire life and growing increasingly and exponentially stronger. Since the FOtToM is technically for gods and goddess' consumption only, Turles could've gotten SSG or even maybe Blue or some other equivalent from eating so many of the fruit, but definitely some god ki.
