FERTILIZE ONCE A WEEK WITH FLORANOVA GROW.
USE FLORANOVA BLOOM ONLY TO “JUMP START BUDS” ONCE BUD FORM AND POPS OUT THEN SWITCH TO CHICKEN FERTILIZER. ADD 1 INCH TO THE TOP OF YOUR SOIL. EVERY 6 MONTHS TOP ANOTHER INCH OF CHICKEN FERTILIZER.
My Dragon Fruit Fertilizer Routine consist of “General Hydroponic” brand. I use the “Grow” and “Bloom” applicators. Water soluble fertilizer makes the nutrients instantly available for my Dragon Fruits to absorb it the same day that it gets fertilized. Unlike organic or time released fertilizer, water soluble gets used right away the moment it is applied. You will notice the GROWTH the same or next day. Check out this video on how I use this type of fertilizer with the full details!

Just starting with dragon fruit cuttings in Phoenix AZ. They are well rooted and now (June 2022) I am getting their big pots and supports ready. This episode helped me to understand the fertilizing needs of my little plants. Keeping them watered enough in our summer heat (110+) is my next challenge.

Hello Richard, thank you so very much for all your very informative videos. I have learned so much for you! In the past I only used chicken manure and Epson Salt, but after watching your video I just bought Flora Nova Grow and Boom fertilizers. My question to you is: Since Floranova Grow is not organic, do you use it all year around, every week or twice a week? Or do you use it only during the dormant time and from March to September you only use chicken manure and the recharge? I understood that floranova bloom has to be used only to start the blooming. Thank You for your time and your passion, your reply will be so very much appreciated. Happy dragon fruit season‼️🐉😊 Isabella

Richard, I love your videos.You & a grower in Lafayette have inspired me to go full steam ahead. That & me buying a supermarket DF and was so disappointed in it's bland taste I decided to try growing some of my own. I just started with cuttings last year & I stopped @ 30 known varieties & 10 unknowns. I did not expect flowers this year, they are a welcome surprise. The 1st feeding of FN Bloom results could be seen the day after feeding. Will LAR pollen cross pollinate other DF? I read CM can be pollinated from just about any red flesh variety. Can I use Epsom Salt (maintenance)mixed with FN Bloom or should I use Epsom Salt one day & FN Bloom later same day or wait until next day? Also, I have earthworms in some of my pots. I thought earthworms are beneficial to soil. I was told by a DF grower that earthworms in the pots are not good and eventually I would have to replace my soil mixture. I also have little green lizards in each trellis. They are keeping my plants bug free except for spiders & ants. I took a picture of a juvenile leaf footed bug on my VW. I looked it up on computer, went back to remove it and it was already gone & a lizard was in same location. I live in FL panhandle & we have gotten rain almost every day for weeks. The top soil is turning green with algae. Should I remove the green layer, mix it in, or leave it alone? My mouth waters when you do a tasting video. Can't wait to test one of my own. Do you sell pollen? I lost several buds because 3 sterile varieties flowered before any pollinators. How long will pollen last refrigerated? I bet your family enjoys the DF of your labors. Keep up the wonderful work you do. THX.

Hi Olivia, it makes me happy that I have inspired you to grow dragon fruits! I keep the soil in the pots forever the only thing I do is add more soil on top of my existing soil every 6 months. Normally it would be 2 inches of chicken manure that I add to the base of my soil.

Awesome...THANK YOU for keeping us educated on DF. May I ask where you get your big black planter pot and what size are they? Do they not have holes for drainage because I don't see any drainage thing at the bottom and didn't see any liqud leaking out at the bottom. I like your planters cause it is wide at the base so it won't have the chance of tipping over...like some of the one I saw at Home Depot has narrower base. Thank you for your time.

Hi Mandie, I go to my local hydroponic stores to get my pots. They are 20 gallon pots and they do have holes in the bottom for drainage. When I water my plants I know how much they need so that not too much drains out to waste. The wide base at the bottom definitely helps keep it sturdy from tipping over easily. Go to your local hydroponic store and ask if they carry 20 gallon pots. If they don't i'm sure they can order it for you. Thank you for watching my videos!

Hi Jorge Ramirez, thank you for watching and supporting my channel. I appreciate it! Yes, I actually use worm casting and chicken manure on my dragonfruits that are planted directly into the ground. They do very well on it, I’ll fertilize them every 6 months with the manures. I’ve also tried compost tea but I haven’t gotten a chance to do it lately because I have so many dragonfruits now I need to find a bigger reservoir to compost some tea. I can tell the dragon fruits really love the compost tea! The branches get really green and thick with water when they are fed with the compost tea.

What do you think of using mulch on top of the pot soil. I used it and find that I don't need to water a lot and soil stay more moist. I used ogranic Jobe rose fertilizer and jobe alzalea fertilizer, I mix the ferlizer with water 5 gallon buckets, than water my dragon fruits, this keep them so green and healthy.
@GraftingDragonFruit
@GraftingDragonFruit 4 жыл бұрын
Hi lamt99, mulch works great for top cover on soil! They help reduce watering and even helps promote root growth to spread all under the mulch. The dragon fruit plants love it. I’ve been meaning to get mulch to add into my pots but never got the chance to do that. You’ve motivated me to get that done! I’ll probably make a video on that subject. Thanks for the idea! Ive never used organic Jobe rose fertilizer but I’ll look into it. I’ve had experience with organic Dr. Earth and General Hydroponic products.

@GraftingDragonFruit
@GraftingDragonFruit 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary Ram, In the summer time like this 2-3 times a week will be enough. You can always check your pots to see if the top layer of your soil is dry and put your finger about 1 inch deep. If it’s feeling lose and dry then you’ll need to water it. They are tropical cactus so they like water but are tolerant to drought when there isn’t any around. In the winter time I’d water them only once a week sometimes once every 1.5 weeks. I’m always touching my soil to see how dry it is and it gives me a good idea when to water. Hope this helps!

@GraftingDragonFruit

It’s a bit strong for vegetable garden. If you do use it for them, use a lower dosage to feed them. You can use the left over for fruit trees if you have any.

Hi Richard, thank you so much for the video. It’s so helpful. I’m beginner of dragon fruit planting. I bought a dragon cutting from Home Depot, its label describes “self-pollinating”. Does it mean that I don’t need to do anything right? And also, I really love your dragon fruit cuttings, they looks healthy and big. Do you sell the cutting? If yes, i would love to buy one, the Vietnamese white. I’m living in San Diego, CA. Let me know and thank you again.

Hi Ngoc Trang, Yes, if it was labeled as “self-pollinating” it means that it should Pollinate itself and set fruit without any help from hand-pollination. What I recommend is to go out there and hand-Pollinate it anyways to ensure 100% that the flower will get the pollen to set into a fruit. I have self-pollinating varieties but I still hand-pollinate all of them. Yes, I do have cuttings available and you can definitely get a Vietnam white from me. Send me an email and I’ll get it worked out to get you one. Graftingdragonfruit@gmail.com

Ive been using ReCharge for years. It is great stuff. However, it appears like you're using tap water to mix it up. If so, you are really short changing its potential. Mainly, bc the additives found in tap water will kill your beneficials. You must use RO water to reap all rewards that ReCharge offers.

I just started growing DF from cuttings...super slow...your base root ones are so THICK and big, do you/can you sell and ship some mature cuttings from the plants that grow the fastest? I’ve noticed other videos where they plant varieties all around same time and some grow 3x faster than others and branch like crazy.... Oh and I’m in Florida ! Don’t think we have as many people grow as much as I see most people videos are from Cali

@GraftingDragonFruit 4 жыл бұрын
What kind of DF cuttings do you have now already? The fastest ones that grow super crazy big and thick would be Vietnam White. They don’t require any pollination they will do it themselves. I can prune you some cuttings of those if you don’t have them already. If you’re interested in hybrid dragon fruits that require cross pollination then I definitely can ship you some mature cuttings of those as well. Send me an email at graftingdragonfruit@gmail.com

I read that physical graffiti are vigorous grower and can handle full sun and cold, living in northern CA the plant need to survive the winter, waiting for mine to grow big, so I can root cutting and graft yellow dragon fruits on physical graffiti. FLORIDA has a lot of nusery selling dragon fruit plants too, I buy most of df variety from cal poly ponoma nusery.

Lamt99, you are absolutely right. I’ve notice that physical graffiti grows very plump, thick full of water and they can withstand that direct heat from the full sun pretty well. During winter I notice they still thrive and grow fine. I have one that’s still devolving it’s canopy. That one will produce me fruits hopefully next season! Can’t wait.

Hi, Sir Thank you for information How many gallons of that FloraNova I need to use on my farm? 600 poles x 4 trees attached to poles and each stone pole has own garden irrigation system. The garden irrigation system has been connected to the main draw well. I have a 200LT barrel and I'm using that to give fertilizer or others. Best Regards

Do you flush the soil/pot once in a while? Another question is that if you add 2 inches of chicken manure every 6 months, does that mean the old soil level would decrease by 2 inches every 6 months by itself?
@GraftingDragonFruit
@GraftingDragonFruit 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Joanne, I flush my soil in between feeding. So my schedule is regular hose water Wednesday and I’ll use the fertilizer on a Saturday or Sunday. If you’re only feeding the fertilizer you’ll need to flush your soil with water every 2 weeks for the whole week before you start fertilizing again. The soil does decrease every year. It gets compact down so that I’m able to add the chicken manure. If it ever gets to a point that you can’t add chicken manure and your pot becomes too full of soil. You can remove the top layer of your soil if possible and add your chicken manure on top as replacement. As long as your doing regular water in-between feeding with fertilizer than you don’t need to worry much about flushing. But if it concerns you. Every 2-3 weeks you can flush with regular water for that whole week and go back onto your fertilizing routine. Hope this helps!

Richard, thank you so much for the info. Regarding watering/flushing the pot in -between feedings, how much water would you recommend? Do you water the plant until certain amount of water flowing out from the container holes?
@GraftingDragonFruit
@GraftingDragonFruit 4 жыл бұрын
You’re very welcome Joanne! I would water the pot until I see first signs of water draining through the pot holes. Once you see it start to come through you can stop. That will be more than enough. You don’t want to over water, first signs of water spilling out those pot holes will be sufficient enough to flush.
