Great review as usual brother! If you can get your hands on a Winter Sun do it, you’ll love it. It’s a little heavier, with a 31” blade, but man can it cut!

Wrap a piece of paper around the end of the sgeao. Feed it through like the eye of a needle. Works with even tenu katana shitodome

The Segeo was very thick...remove of the shitodome worked

I want this to be my first before I turn to Japan for a blade…
@JoeSteel12 ай бұрын
@LaoWaiJac OH man that's like apples and oranges..nostalgic ones are fine for that purpose but a real modern made Nihonto is in the 10 to 20 to 30k range
@LaoWaiJac2 ай бұрын
@@JoeSteel1 I would leave the historical ones in Japan and get something built new… not to beat up as a cutter but to hold, to enjoy, to appreciate. The one I priced out was 14k, and that wasn’t even from a popular smith.
@JoeSteel12 ай бұрын
@LaoWaiJac My brother if you are able to, that would be an incredible pickup, 14k cause it's probably a newer trained smith or not with the master status but still an amazing true hand made piece of Japanese beauty

Any tips on tightening my Sageo cord my new sword has a looser than desired one don’t want to even try to rewrap it. Thanks

once I loosen the factory knot, I don't tie it back as If I would need to use the sword in my obi, there should not be a knot, there are videos that explain how to tie the knot for presentation that you may be looking for...if not just loop around Kurigata and tie a simple knot towards the point of the saya....maybe I'll do a video one day on it

Yo I’m looking for a really good katana in tue 700-1000 dollar range which one do you recommend?
@JoeSteel1Ай бұрын
Many options, to mention and too much to ask, to know about you, before a real recommendation can be made, with that being said...Shadow Dancer, Cas Iberia brands, like Dragon King, and Hanwei, also Skyjiro makes a great quality sword within that price range...
@paladinhansen137Ай бұрын
@@JoeSteel1 I factored in my height and arm length so I chose to acquire the shadow dancer kanmuriotoshi zukuri s5 steel tameshigiri katana with a 28inch blade length I’m 5 foot 7 so I wanted to go with that blade length with less possibility of me scarping tue ground with the katana
@paladinhansen137Ай бұрын
It was right at 730 so the price was right and the quality of s5 steel isn’t bad either. This will be my first katana
@JoeSteel1Ай бұрын
@paladinhansen137 Great choice but I would say 27" blade would work a tad better buy if not Allgood
@paladinhansen137Ай бұрын
@@JoeSteel1 I was about to get a 27 inch actually. I’ll most likely get one that length but I factored in my height when I have shoes on cause I’ll be using it outside in my backyard for tatami mats and not at a dojo or inside which gives me an extra 1 and a quarter on the height so it seems to be good. Your channel is very informative l. Thank you for all that you do.

I don't think Dragon King has as good of value in the upper end of their range. The lower end stuff is where it's at! I have the Hana and War Fire, both are spectacular for the $300 range. You can spot many places that could be nicer, but not really done any better. They did an excellent job assembling the economical materials. Both have lower end steels, but they are double hardened. I have had both for about three years and use them for practice several times a week. Ito is still supremely tight and nothing rattles. It's actually impressive how they have aged. Some of the black coating rubbed off where my hands make contact the most, that's about it. From being drawn thousands of times I've needed to shim the saya a few times. Easy and fast, back to swinging! LET ME BE CLEAR. My cheap Dragon King katana impress me a lot... and they have stiff competition. I am lucky and acknowledge this. I compare them to my two Citadel and two Motohara. Those are so nice and expensive that they get light duty. It's great to grab the Dragon King and just have fun without much concern. When the Citadel or Motohara are out, I am always uptight /uneasy taking away some of the enjoyment. All of them are honestly very well built for the price. I won't mention brands I don't like. If you want to spend more go for Shadow Dancer (Dragon Sword once upon a time). Zsey seems like you might as well buy a car, so pricey. Huawei maybe a better option now, they long ago were very slow... great quality though. EDIT: The first pumpkin I cut felt like hitting a tree. They are very dense and massive. Maybe we should judge katana by how many pumpkins, not tatami or prisoner bodies they can slice. I didn't notice any staining from the juice. My T10 showed discoloration in a minute or less. No worries, it's a user and liked it.

Thanks for sharing all your thoughts and comments, appreciated....I have yet to experience DKs higher end models...looking foward to furthering my venture with them...haven't had the pleasure with Citedel or Motohara of yet.

If there all simular then there all really good cutters and the steel impressed me. wish for the price the blade a more prominent polish and little issues other than that Dragon King has got something good going over there. especially after what I heard last night on the live
