I would expect nothing less than my favorite DQ youtuber to come through with this playthrough on day 1. Never played this one either. I’ll get it eventually (still quite a backlog). That intro reminds me of Ultima IV on my old Apple II which preceded the original DQ by a few years. Much more advanced than DQ 1 especially but it was on a computer as the first JRPGs were dumbed down versions of the RPGs I used to play like the Ultima and Wizardry games.

Oh yeah, my favorite Dragon Quest streamer though was hoping for live stream. Less than 5 hours to midnight for me. Good thing i have something else to do while waiting for my copy to unlock on Switch and Xbox. The personality test really sets this game apart from most other JRPGs. Feel free to ignore me begging you to simply name a merchant Rex, really any vocation works, in any of your playthroughs of this game and you don't need to use me even though i plan to name one party member Mage at some point since you are awesome.

Welcome back to DQ, Mage! There are a lot of references in other DQ games to this one, especially in 11. The field music is the same you hear in Act 3 of 11, also the fighting music is used at Pang's trials. Actually I think 3 has the best soundtrack in the whole franchise (and 7, which you also haven't played). Personalities affect how your status grows, for example, Dorothy in your party is an "acrobat" so her agility will be especially high. You can change personalities by books from the shelves or with some accessories. Can't wait seeing you creating your own characters, tho (You create them upstairs and add to the party at Patty's). This remake has tons of additional stuffs that seem amazing, even though they deleted the T'n'T (the board game you played in DQ5, which was actually created for the first remake of 3 and later used in the 5 remake), but as I see, you can get the items used to be exclusive to the T'n'T for mini medals. This remake is absolutely exciting, but there's something I just have to say...: “You would play as a HERO with Appearance A and a HEROINE with Appearance B”… so the mighty West is confused by its own “Political Correctness” what they are trying to impose upon Japanese games (and what Horii himself hates)😂😂😂.

So far I’m loving this version. I got to play a few hours today. I grew up on the Nintendo version of these, so I know exactly what they changed. I find this game to be very beautiful. I always love they kept the random battles instead of having the monsters roaming the world like dragon quest XI. Something about random encounters just seems to keep this one old school lol The thief and Animal Wrangler are new classes. Everything else was in the original. I wanted to try them out, but I tend to balance the party as well, so I went the same as you lol

While seeing the classic vocations is nice before next you should experiment with each vocation and see what feels right, however even if don't use the merchant it's a must make vocation for the distant future, merchant unique benefit is the enemy drop extra gold coins while thief as they level up have high chances of making enemy drop items an personalities is what stat it will favor as they level up so many fans of dq3 tend to create allies over the default selection

Also Monster Mashers is not like the Blue mages in FF(better get rid of that mindset and learn to separate the two mate. DQ did the the job system first before FF period). They are only useful in recruiting monsters and you’ll learn breathe attacks or monster attacks by leveling up not like the Blue Mages in FF or like Kimahri from FFX.

Each dragon quest game take place in different worlds except for dragon quest 1,2,3 and 11 and if you beat dragon quest 11 you will know the line mom said as she wake you up

Mage, I can't remember exactly what happens but you can actually keep refusing to go to see the king - like when your mom asks if you're going to see him - and you get a different version of events. I can't remember if you manage to avoid him altogether or if he just gets annoyed at you, but it might be worth quickly making a new game to see it. I don't mean starting from scratch, just a quick test.

If the personalities haven't been changed from the other versions of this game, Mage just got one of the worst: *Scatterbrain* Strength -15% | Agility +15% | Resilience -20% | Wisdom -20% | Luck -10% Only the Mule, Gourmand, Klutz, and Thug are worse in terms of stat growth total.
