when i was a kid i assumed that dhoulmagus was the final boss, realising i was only half way through the game as an amazed 9 year old was one of the best feelings i’ve ever had in gaming

This kind of localization is superb, not only is the voice acting great, but the original game was without voice track in the first place. They managed to have great voice acting for a game that wasn't even designed to have it, a first in the entire series. This game is a gem.

This was one of my favorite moments as a kid. The final boss, the thrill. I defeated him. My party was victorious then.. BOOM! Second phase begins. My party get wrecked. Was ill prepared for a second phase. Had to come back to the dungeon. Defeated him a second time. The game is over, then BOOM! Not the final boss after all. I was excited to continue this story. I loved this game so much. I wish a modern day remaster would come out on the switch like they did on the 3DS.

I'm playing both versions of this Dragon quest during these days...and although they made possible in the 3ds version to use Morrie and Red or challenge a more powerful version of the bosses you faced during your adventure, the PS2 version remains my favourite version. Dragon quest VIII is a piece of my videogamer childhood

I can't believe Jessica just grabbed the Sceptre casually... The thing that started all of this, the only remaining thing left of dhoulmagus AND the source of his power even after witnessing the Thorn flood that this thing unleashed. Brilliant

This boss almost made me rage quit. I remember getting destroyed by it countless times. I think I grinded for hours and looked for better equipment in order to beat him.

This was the first boss that I struggled to beat when I played this game for the first time. I tried and tried but couldn't get past this boss. Especially the second part. All of that though was before I knew where to get the best equipment for that encounter, I was severely under-leveled and I didn't know about the monster arena( first time blind run through). So I grinded it out and got around level 35 plus and fought a war of attrition with him because buffing your party is usually out of the question because he spams Wave of Ice like it's going out of style.

Next time I play through this game, I really need to keep count of all he times the villain says "Such a pity" throughout the game. I'm pretty sure he says it way more than Yangus's "COR BLIMEY!" even.

I just waited until level 48 before fighting him made it a breeze

I did that in my first run at lvl 27-28 without using the monster team and without multiheal at first try, took me like 40 minutes for the 2 parts, at the start i was like buffing alot of stats (speed defense x2 dmg) and when i saw that counterspell of his reseting all ur buffs i was like damn.. Well that was pretty hard Jessica had 106 HP lol, but at least the battle was a challenge and i feel proud for doing that 1st try.

When I first got to him Dhoulmagus had killed me so many times because I ran away from a lot of battles and was under levels. Thankfully there was a small island that allowed me to farm metal slimes and learn multiheal with Angelo. As soon as I learned that spell I rushed back to Dhoulmagus and had zero trouble.

Not really. I kinda over did it by accident this time around, while I was looking for items on the field and battling monsters to get items for the alchemy pot. I never run away from battles anymore. You can check out my battle record on the monster arena video, if you want see it.

@@BlazetheCat130 Its actually quite a shame that happened. I remember this fight for how memorable it was and how it made me adapt and think. I was level 29-30 and I found it the perfect lvl. You just made it seem like a walk in the park lol.

@107553332423467453778 It's okay. I was just wondering. Anyway, the level I highly recommend is level 30. It's really important for Angelo to learn Multiheal, so you can survive most of dhoulmagus's attacks.

Kamil Wychowaniec Yes that's right and trust me, his Multiheal is really helpful in this fight. During my first playthrough of this game years ago (I can't remember when though). I lost to dhoulmagus 3 times, because I didn't grind enough, until angelo got to level 30 and I didn't know he can learn multiheal. So I went back and fought dhoulmagus again and I manage to survive and win the boss battle. (I was level 27 at the time before I went to grind at level 30's)
