Dragon's Dogma is a great game made by Capcom with a lot of great cut scenes that you have no way of viewing without playing it through again. Hopefully this video helps people with that.

Something that I appreciate about Dogma's world is that the way of the world is simply immutable: the Endless Chain goes on because it must, you cannot ascribe good nor evil to it as it is something that transcends everything and everyone. For all his power, the Great Dragon Grigori is nothing but a slave to the natural order, cursed to play out his role until he dies and is succeeded. Not even God is truly free, but a slave to the system just the same as the Dragon.

What I love about Grigori is that he does force the options onto you, but he doesn't demand an answer immediately. If you leave the conversation, he just says "Very well, I have plenty of time." and allows you to prepare for the fight of your fight. He wants you at your peak.

@@arceus1385 Defeating the Seneschal doesn't end the cycle, it's part of it. The Seneschal you face at the end of a new game is Savan, the man from the introduction who defeated his Dragon and then the Seneschal. Not even plunging the Godsbane in your chest ends the cycle. At the end of a new game plus, the Seneschel is either your own character from the previous game if offline or another player's character that has become the Seneschal if online. And Savan retrieves the Godsbane from his own chest. He says the Godsbane is the only thing that can kill the Seneschal, but he doesn't say that's all that's required. The incumbent Seneschal must be killed by the new one. It's the only way for them to be released from immortality and is the reason for the Dragons and the Arisen, to cultivate the will of a new Seneschal to serve as the axis around which the universe and the eternal cycle will continue to turn.

Nothing wrong with that but Grigori does the same, after literally being the entire first and second act of the game's antagonist. He talks, even armchair philosophers and when you finally get to fight him he just puffs out his chest and waits for you to try. He's one Safi nova away from being the coolest dragon in all of fantasy. The fun bit is knowing the lore/speculation of Fatalis and 'The Dragon'. How both may actually be Former challengers transformed.

And I say very select few monsters approach grigori's sheer epicness. You gotta factor in the fact that griori rivals fatalis' design who in return is the most badass elder dragon in the franchise. Dare I say that I find griori even more intimidating design wise alone. But that's not to undermine fatalis or any other sick monster such as alatreon. That is just a testament over how much of an outlier dragon's dogma's villain was. Has the best design out of any fictional dragon, has the most badass voice of any dragon, is the wittiest of them all. And his one liner would make even Gandalf wet his knickers. "What is your purpose here, Arisen?" The delivery is too fucking good. Like every line this voice actor absolutely perfects, every line is powerful as hell. And the one I quoted just has so much weight, and is probably my favorite. I especially love how he circles back to "I ask again, what is your purpose here, Arisen?" after breaking down human behavior to our hero. Can't wait for the sequel.

The Grigori are bound by their duty to the seneschal, but this one clearly has other plans. He's not just trying to make sure you're up to the task of killing him as the seneschal demands, but he slips you the godsbane dagger in his death as a final middle finger to fate so that you can actually finish the cycle after offing the seneschal with their own godsbane sword.

That's where you are wrong. The cycle is never ending, never breaking wheel. At least to the lore here are the outcomes: 1. Accept the bargain of dragon - rule the land. New Arisen is chosen for same Dragon. 2. Kill the dragon and challenge seneschal, but loose the fight - you are casted down from rift and reincarnated as new dragon. 3. Kill the dragon amd defetead the seneschal - seneschal becomes the dragon, while you ascend the throne - ever waiting for another to break you free. No matter you do, if you choose to resist and fight you are bound to be part of the cycle as Arisen and the dragon, and as seneschal if you are deemed worthy, only to recycle the fate at some point. Only those who run and accept the dragon bargain are truly set free from cycle - fates irony, since they are not reincarneted either as dragons or new arisens. They cease to exist.

One of the few games that does a Dragon correctly. Intimidating and four legs, allowing the front claws to be used as both weapons, or even casting spells. Along with that, allowing him to stand up tall and proudly as his wings spread to envelop the sky, blocking out the sun as his head is held high. unlike other games where they take the Wyvern design and the "dragon" spends more time eating mud by holding their entire body as low as possible to the ground. Grigori was intimidating as hell.

@@ryan1000011Sure, and in many cases that works quite well. But when it comes to dragons I believe this design is superior. The low to the ground or two limb version is usually used by movie and game designers to give them a more threatening appearance. And I cannot stress enough how big of a mistake that is. A dragon's design has always been so successful due to its representation of "pride", its grandiose stature and appearing as a insurmountable mountain. They are not supposed to be creepy, they are supposed to be imposing, yet carry themselves somewhat majestically. This is why Grigori is one of the best game dragons, despite games like Skyrim existing, who's "Dragons" are pretty forgettable despite being the central theme of the game. They even do the part correctly where a Dragon's breath attack is beyond what most magic can achieve, but also not being the Dragon's only option as in many older stories with dragons, they are usually adapt at spellcasting too, far outclassing any combat skills most humans would acquire in a lifetime.

As in the Duchess? Yeah, if you complete her sidequest she's automatically your beloved. However, there's a way around it: during the rescue quest, abuse the shit out of her. I spent about twenty minutes throwing her full-force into a wall, followed by a good ten minutes of flinging her into the cold water. She was *not* happy, and I managed to drain all of her affection points that way. Thus she wasn't my 'beloved' for this scene. This is a pro tip for all future Arisen who don't want that forced bullshit for your character but still want to 100% the game.

A year late, but there's even a character preset that greatly resembles Guts. One eye closed, scar across his face, same haircut, tall, left arm bare, and a huge sword on his back. I never understood why he looked like that when I first got this game. I hadn't read/watched Berserk, but after looking into it some more recently (thanks to Dark Souls 3) I immediately realized who that preset was supposed to be. Pretty good impression of him actually.

This fantastic game is a bit short on story in many parts but damn were the developers able to deliver when it mattered the most. This scene is so well produced it's saddening that not more gamers are familiar with it. The voice acting, the actual things Grigori says, the framings of the shots, the cuts, it's just perfection.

I always wondered. Who was the Dragon when Savan slayed it? Those who are the Dragon die permanently when the Arisen kills them, but when Savan sees the Dragon, it’s voiced by Grigori. But, Savan kills his dragon and ascends to the Seneschal. Yet, our Dragon is voiced by Grigori also. So confusing..

It could be that the Dragon's voice is the same for all dragons. At least in the series this happens (regardless of how much of a dissapointment it was) However, Savan kills his dragon and doesnt fail in his fight for Seneschal, then when does grigori come? When does he fail to be Seneschal? Could it be that once a new Seneschal is selected the world "restarts" (since we can see Gran Soren and Cassardis completely untouched as Seneschal)?

I think it's very possible that Savan is the last "true" Arisen. I mean, the opening kinda makes it seem like Savan's confrontation with the dragon was a really long time ago, and considering that he's been Seneschal since, it's more than possible that Grigori is just that effective. I mean, Grigori, whenever he speaks to us seems pretty fed up with it all, which could mean that he's been the Dragon for multiple cycles now with there being no one to replace him. So once you take over, Grigori is the Dragon once more, because there was no one before you to replace him

SOME SPOILERS FOR DD2 . . . I ADORE DD2. L152h for my first playthrough. However, DD2's dragon holds no candle over Grigori in mystique, stature and poetic speech. The writing for his dialogues in DD1 is flawless. I think it's fine for them to be different since it's not the same dragon, but still in terms of presentation and dialogue, they could have done better.
