Old comment, I know, but if you fight the Seneschal while Online, then it should actually be the Arisen & Main Pawn of the person on your friends list who most recently defeated the Seneschal that you have to fight (provided it's your second time facing the Seneschal, since the first time you fight the Seneschal it's *always* a fight against Savan & Salde), which *can* still mean that you fight your previous character & Pawn if nobody on your friends list has beaten the Seneschal before you fight them on a second run through.
@StubbornCapy4 жыл бұрын
@@gamester512 That did happen after a few months into the game when my friends got a copy for themselves. They were just as surprised as I was. At the time I experienced it nobody on my friends list had the game when it came out so that's why I saw my previous self.
@gamester5124 жыл бұрын
@@StubbornCapy In my case, I had a friend I was playing this with simultaneously (and the way we became friends is actually a bit of a funny story in it's own right!), and I wound up progressing further than him at a slightly faster pace. I even reached and defeated Daimon before him (we were having a bit of a friendly/casual "race" to see which of us could complete Dark Arisen first, which ultimately wound up being my win by about 20 minutes, I believe he mostly got hung up with the Dark Bishop and actually had to retry the fight, while in my case I won first try even though I lost 2 Pawns to petrification), and IIRC the second time he defeated the Seneschal, it was *my* character and Pawn that he was facing instead of his own. As for how the two of us first met, it was initiated by me getting a friend request from him through Dragon's Dogma, and at the time I would almost invariably accept such friend requests. And not long after I'd accepted his request I get a message from him inviting me to a voice chat, and it was during that voice chat that he explained to me that he'd stepped away from the game momentarily while browsing through Pawns, and at the time he'd been looking at my Pawn, and while he was away from his controller his toddler son got his hands on the controller and wound up sending that friend request instead of him! We both got a good laugh out of that! XD

To be fair you quite litterly go against the greater will, something even the senechal couldn't do as he was cursed by the pathfinder, you shatter the cycle as the dragon was trying lead an arisen to do, I think thats pretty fuckin baller.
@sirpurple44647 ай бұрын
@pacifierragae7647 to be "FAIR" the first game has no narrative or story connection whatsoever to the second. Hense why the "senescahl" is not mentioned or even hinted at. Because the first and second game are retellings of the same story the true end of the first game in which you kill yourself with the blade does end the cycle. And the second game is a retelling of the same story just done poorly
@sirpurple44647 ай бұрын
@pacifierragae7647 oh yeah and i dont know what the hell your source is but the seneshcal wasn't cursed by the pathfinder. Dont know where you saw that garbage.
@solarys91237 ай бұрын
@@sirpurple4464 It's not exactly a retelling, and it is quite connected to the first game, although poorly. DD2 takes place in the DD1 world scenario of the seneschal abandoning his post, forcing the cycle to adapt and create a new one with the pathfinder/brine as the overseer and literally forcing the same roles and lives on everyone for some sort of universal stability. The liondude in the chair that gives you the godsbane was an arisen that made it as duke and expanded his dominion with Gran Soren as his capital and funded Vermund, when he found out about the pathfinder forcing his role as monarch and his victories being a hollow achievement he went insane and started killing NPCs until the pathfinder chose a different guy as arisen to tie liondude to that chair and sunk Gran Soren in the ocean. Does it follow the same narrative structure? Yeah, but it's a different story altogether. The problem, in my opinion is that it is a worse story and it quite obviously requires you to have a prior understanding of the setting to make sense of what's happening. The first game had you run after the dragon for the sole purpose of stopping his rampage and get your heart back, the test of the seneschal and the true purpose of the dragon are only revealed later, in this one you are obviously put in a place of cosmological importance to fulfill your vaguely descripted "destiny" for the Pathfinder's narrative. Not to mention that the characters in DD2 are incredibly poor and serve no purpose beyond sending you to the next quest, in DD1 characters weren't the best, but they had a narrative purpose and their own arcs that could culminate in a romantic relationship... in DD2 you get a cinematic of your most liked NPC looking at the sea.

I always went offline for the final boss. It felt much closer to the theme of cycles that the game has when you fought your previous character. Plus I once ended up fighting this capped level guy as a NG Hard mode character and he destroyed me in one hit. THAT fight took a loooong time.
I played this game for the first time when I was in middle school. It absolutely blew me away. I didn't use the computer very often back then so nothing got spoiled. To put it simply, this game came to me at exactly the right time. I actually brought it over to a friends house. I spent most of my time there. I couldn't come over on the weekends and I got to the Seneschal fight on a Friday. We were both so invested and so stupid that we left the damn tv on for the whole weekend so that we could just unpause when I came back. Everything about this game changed the way I see games. This and Demon's Souls defined to me what a game can be, moreover, what a game should be. Seven years later, I still come back to it just to feel like a kid again and embark on the adventure once more. I desperately hope that Itsuno makes a proper sequel so that another kid can have what I had with this game.

The decision, just like yours, to fight. Just as the pawns need a master's command, so the world thirsts for the will to live. Let us continue Arisen, show that you are more than a empty vessel animated by forces unseen. Show that the temper of your soul is strong enough to command far more than mere pawns... Show that your will is fit to bind the fraying circle of this world and hold it fast. Fight tooth and claw. struggle now, and cling to life! Show that living is worth enough to fight for! It's time to decide, Will you claim your right as Arisen? Or shrug the burden and seek peace in oblivion? Just so. One foot after the next, come what may. That's what it means to live. Turn back now and I will give you a merciful death. The choice is yours Arisen, Yours alone... Tis a simple choice Arisen step forward or retreat. Accept the quiet emptiness of a false peace. I thought the Epilogue text was pretty clear, how your consciousness slowly fades to black as you smile, feeling a strange pride as you put finally put your journey to an end, as well as allowing someone else to "live" (your pawn). That's my thoughts on it

It would've been cool if the seneschal had a final form. Wouldn't it be awesome watching your former Arisen turn into a big angel themed beast that varied by the class he was and bear the heartache of having to cut him down yourself?!

One of the best final bosses ever. It wasn't extremely hard but the music and the fact that you was fighting god just is what made this fight awesome. (I may of gotten that wrong. He is god right?)

0:59 to 1:14 is the same melody as 0:16 to 0:30 of Star of Heaven, which uses the same passage "Land and sky and seas yearn, finish the cycle of eternal return" that appears throughout the DD soundtrack.

I think you're even more special, you among all those who became seneschal were the one who severed the endless chain by putting and end to your own life... now that the fountain of will that sustained the world is gone, who knows what will happen? maybe in years to come some great calamity will take place, and that may be a good story for a sequel

you say the implication is there about more than one seneschal but the pawns say that the rift and the everfall link all the worlds, and you fight the seneschal in the rift, but I guess it depends on how you interpret the game

especially thinking that he that made it possible for you to be a god (grigori) gave you the only thing that can kill a god (godsbane) saying it will show you the truth of the world, the truth being all things die

Man i remember when i first fought the Seneschal, i was surprised that he was Savan (the dude from the tutorial). Then when i fought the Seneschal again for the second time i was like "HOLY SHIT THATS MY OLD CHARACTER" lmao good times.

You don't end or finish the cycle, but you do divinely f*ck it up. A sequel about what happens to the world without a a senechal would be really fun. And yes, there is no seneschal anymore. With New Game + , your previous character still being the seneschal at the end is more for replay value than a plot point. The games plot concludes as though you don't do a new game +.
@goldthorn14173 жыл бұрын
I'm not so sure that there is no more seneschal. Remember that savan pull out the godsbane from his chest and i find it hard that after what seems to be like centuries passes when he became seneschal, he never thought to end his own life.
@tengizoniani50293 жыл бұрын
Also interesting is if Seneschal is bound by something to hand the reign to another one. Let's face it if Savan wanted to kill us, he would have done it. The god of World is weaker in combat than a mere fire/ice drake? :D What happens if the Seneschal himself defies the cycle - does not hand the gods bane over and rules forever? DD has a potential for so much lore/options world building. Shame that they do not continue with it. Best High fantasy game I have ever played. Alduin is a little worm compared to Grigori - both by design and personality.
@GrandCondemned3 жыл бұрын
@@tengizoniani5029 there are other worlds, and other seneschal's, but the world of DD is now without one, because your character chose not to continue the cycle. Imagine the other Seneschal's finding out one of them committed suicide. Would others? Is there some power over even the Seneschal's that would attempt to restore order? Yeah, lots of good potential lore.

And the speedrun mode with it. AND there's a whole new expansion pack planned called Dark Arisen which'll probably add tons of endgame content to mess around with. Seriously, kudos to Capcom for this game and the effort they're putting into making Dragon's Dogma a great new IP for the future.

The final boss is any Arisen from other people who recently completed the game. If you're not connected or if you set yourself to "offline", you'll fight against your previous playthrough's character, who could be the same as the current one if you haven't changed them XD

Really wish the Seneschal was a harder boss on the first playthrough, or scaled to your level somehow. Single-tapping this dork at level 200 is a bit of an anti-climax.

Don't forget the Dragonforged being defeated by the Dragon. And since he turns to dust... We really have no idea how long Savan has been the Seneschal. Of course it is weary work, he has to constantly monitor the world trying to find who he feels is worthy to be the next Seneschal, and he has to constantly test them. And when they let him down that must make it even harder for him. And the Arisen he picked at least two (maybe more, we don't know) generations before you both failed.

It gets harder if you choose the new Hard mode that came with the free dlc in december. The Seneschal stabbing themself with the Godsbane blade gives their pawn a piece of their soul - a will and an aging body. They do not actually die.

*SPOILERS* I agree with you there, Dragons aren't inherently evil as the rest of the game make you think. Though I also tend to see their... dragonship a bit of a curse, considering there's a good chance that they were previous Arisens that failed the test of Will; thus transforming into these beings. (Based off what happens if you let the Seneschal kill you in the last encounter.) In the end, the Maker plays a huge role in the plot, which makes me wonder, what will happen without a Seneschal?
