What I liked about Jason Scott Lee's performance was that he didn't over do the Bruce Lee trademark facial expressions. If you look at all of the Bruce Lee imitators over the years, they over do it to the point that it is comical. Jason Scott Lee does it in a more subtle way and makes himself much more believable as Bruce Lee.

The part of the movie where Bruce blows Linda a kiss and sprints up the stairs to finish the movie appeared to me to be a metaphor of his death and leaving the earth. (8:30)

I remember Jim Kelly telling me that Story at ComicCon a few years back about Bruce. He said Him, Bob Wall, and Bolo Yong saw Bruce kick the guy with his right foot and three teeth and blood fell out. Jim and Bob tried to warn the guy and Bolo even tried to fight the guy before Bruce, but Bruce got mad and wanted to show off. I wish Jim was still around to tell it, but Bolo Yong and Bob Wall can back that story up if they ever go to a Convention, so ask them.

@Albert Twangle Bullshit. I was just at Chuck Norris's house, and Steven Segal had just run away from a fight with Van Damme again, so everyone was just chilling by the pool, and I heard Bolo and Bob Wall talking about it. They warned me you might try to lie about them

Hard to believe that Jason Scott Lee didn't practice any martial arts before this movie, his fight scenes are really impressive.

According to Jackie Chan, the reason a lot of Hollywood fight scenes are filmed so close-up and edited quickly is because the actors are not good enough at fighting to pull off wide-shot sequences where you can see everything.

@Eddie Venkman I feel like Korean cinema perfected American style shots with Hong Kong style flair and aesthetics. it's pretty close up at times and gets intense with the shaky cam but it isn't sloppy nor are the actors bad at fighting. I love it.

Besides writer/director Rob Cohen, producer Raffaella DeLaurentiis, executive producers Dino DeLaurentiis, John Badham and everyone who were involved in the making of "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story." But after a string of disappointments such as "Brighton Beach Memoirs" "Lost in Yonkers" and "Violets are Blue" as well as "Revenge" for getting fired plus its creative staff were letting go expect Marietta Lee who'll stay until 2002, the legendary Ray Stark of Rastar whose company produced the film with Studio Canal to help bring the film to life. He was very pleased with Universal when "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" released in the summer of 1993 with an top-notch cast and crew...he got what he deserves and a whole lot more. It made so much money at the box office and kids love it.

Jeet Kune Do is not a style. It's a concept and philosophy of the martial arts. It teaches you how to adapt to any fighting situation and develop your own style. It is what MMA came from. It also is the way of intercepting fists as the name is translated as. Jason was trained in Jun Fan Bruce Lee's personal version of JKD. JKD is formless. It helps sharpen your skills and strengthen your core art. My core is kickboxing. I studied JKD and it helped me becomes much better at KIckboxing and street fighting which is what JKD helps.

I remember clearly when Brandon Lee died , around the same time as River Phoenix, but I hadn't known he’d been offered the role in Dragon. Sadly ironic that if he’d been able to take that role, instead of the Crow, it would have saved his life. But I loved this movie on release and it's part of my permanent collection. Jason Scott Lee was, and it, awesome.

Thank you for reviewing this. I know it's not all true, but to me it's "spiritually true"... it captures who he was including his relationship with Linda. Two things you didn't mention: Nancy Kwan playing the owner of the restaurant was wonderful casting (she knew the real Bruce Lee, who taught her how to fight for a scene in one of her movies... a Matt Helm movie, I believe)... and how the film portrayed the bigotry of the time, from how Mickey Rooney is shown portraying a Chinese character in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" to how Linda's mom is against her dating an Asian male but Brandon's birth wins her over). This film was rich in details like this even if the story wasn't always true to real events.

One of the all time great movies from the 90's. It's certainly up there as one of my favourites of all time. There couldn't of been a better actor to play Bruce Lee he got it perfect as far as I am concerned. It's just a shame for an actor like him to of had a better career after Dragon because I thought his worth would have soared after it.

5:20 - Jesus thats some Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star) shit No wonder Tetsuo Hara based Kenshiro off Bruce Lee. 7:55 - I like that thought. It also fits the Ip Man series which, while not factual, sure was entertaining Also, I recommend watching the Ip Man trilogy with Donnie Yen as Ip Man before watching this movie. Though, maybe it would be better to watch Ip Man 1 & 2, then Dragon (Ip Man 3 doesn't suit the flow well) Although its not a related production, Ip Man was Bruce Lee's teacher in real life, and the ending to Ip Man 2, I feel, bridges very well into the start of Dragon.

5:02 to 5:35 sounds like an interesting story, but it might have been a setup (maybe someone in the crowd knew Bruce and agreed to lose this one hit challenge - to keep people from doubting his skills) Just a theory. I mean obviously he did have some serious skills, but I'm dubious of such stories.

+Tornado1994 Yes, definitely he was stressed. Many of his friends said they believed he wouldn't have lived to an old age. Stress itself is a major trigger of diseases. Two, BL believed he would live to half the age of his dad, who died at 64; and that he didn't want to get old and lose his skills ... so these were self-fulfilling prophecies. I just read an interview by a friend, a female photographer... she had married producer Ted Ashley and divorced, although they remained friends. He was the one who informed her of Bruce's death. Anyway, she said he was a real friend, a great gentlemen and a great dad. So while he had his faults ... hot temper, etc. he had a very kind side. I see him as sort of a martyr. He literally gave his life for his dream. And that dream included not just himself, but to bring people up. He certainly wanted to bring up the image of Chinese; and other people, too. You can see this in that his friends and students were of all ethnicities. One of the reasons he is popular, for example, with African Americans is that they recognize what he had to go through professionally (in Hollywood). And to top it off, his other dream was to be the best fighter. Maybe if he had to do it all over again, he wouldn't change a thing, if it meant reaching his major goals.

There's one major inaccuracy not mentioned in this video that the movie can't be excused for, and that's the claim that Kung Fu series was based on a concept Lee came up with that was stolen by Warner Bros. Ed Spielman creator of the series was working on this concept since the mid 60's way before Bruce came up with his own concept called The Warrior, the only connection Lee had to Kung Fu was that he tried to apply for the lead of Caine that was later given to David Carradine. Spielman was actually planning to sue Universal and anyone who this allegation, which included Lee's widow Linda herself but decided not to after Brandon Lee's tragic death as he felt sorry for the Lee family.
@f430ferrari5
@f430ferrari5 4 жыл бұрын
@Badre Bally. You’re missing one thing though. Without Bruce, the Kung Fu series concept would have never even been approved of. What I mean by this is that how are studio heads going to give the green light for this unless they see the popularity potential. Bruce Lee solidified that this concept could work. And there is no evidence to say Spielman worked on his concept well before Bruce. Bruce was already 25 by the mid 60’s. Remember he was born in the US then went to Hong Kong and back to the US. The whole traveling to America like Cain did Bruce already did. Seriously wtf does some Jewish guy know by simply watching Kurosawa. Musashi to Shaolin Temple. Those were his first thoughts 😂😌. He would have been laughed at to the brink of humiliation from both Japan and China had he brought that to cinema.

I like Dragon the Bruce Lee story! Jason Scott Lee gives a wonderful performance as Bruce Lee! Lauren Holly is also great as Bruce Lees wife, Linda Lee Cadewell! It is one of my favorite movies of all time! The only problem I have with this movie is that It is not accurate. Some of the events in this movie were distorted by Hollywood and did not happen to Bruce Lee in real life. The information in this movie is also untrue because some of the Hollywood celebrities names were changed. This is not a biography movie because some of the Information and Events in Dragon the Bruce Lee story are not all true!

i like this movie but struggle to understand why it's not factually accurate. Was his like not amazing enough even for a film studio?

@ but that just isnt the case, they leave out stuff that actually happened which is exciting enough and add a load of BS.

Jason Scott Lee was so damn handsome and has a lot of charisma... It's a shame he didn't get more roles! He'd be perfect as a romantic lead too😶 I really like the movie... I found the acting good. It would be far too much to expect an actor to actually pull off the fighting? I mean it's Bruce Lee... And Brandon Lee! So gorgeous too 😑 and talented! Love the Crow. The movies he could have made

@EXO Dragon movie came out in 1993 and slightly prior to this Brandon Lee was becoming a star. To put other matters in context, Japan in the late 80’s was thought to be heading towards a global economic power. In 1994/95, Vanishing Son came out. See link. Starred Russell Wong. One thing that the show seemed to focus on is that the lead character often seemed to get romantically involved with an attractive non Asian female. It seems at some point insecure white males feel threatened by the Asian male and did not like leading Asian men in Hollywood. Many Hollywood films portray Asians as the bad guys too. Or of course the geek. Those have been my observations. I agree Jason Scott Lee should have had more prominent roles but sadly it never happened. www.imdb.com/title/tt0112210/

@@f430ferrari5 it's a shame.... people are bonkers. Supposedly movie industry is all about giving people what they want and their fantasy. I'm sure the ladies would have appreciated more handsome men in movies. it's basically censorship... people deciding against the audience interests based on some psychological issues they have. Kinda sick
