@001100005 жыл бұрын
I kind of agree with some of this, but instead of Dragons representing pure magic or infinity energy, I believe they are the users of "raw primal power". And by primal, I don't mean primary, but rather of a crude or unrefined nature, like "primal" instincts. I see Infinity Energy as the Source, what all things are made of, but rearranged into whatever physical form it needs to be, whether that be light or elements or any of the types. Dragon type is another form of this energy, but unlike the others, it is undefined and raw, basically the first and simplest conversion of the Infinite into a useful form. However, because it is so simple, it lacks the distinct characteristics of the other types; it just is. This also has the advantage of being extremely powerful, albeit hard to control. All of the energy is in power, and none in utility. That's why dragons are so powerful, yet vague and varied. They are simply power personified, taking whatever form suits them. And because they're so ancient, that form is usually reptilian or serpentine. This power also applies to the real world and why in almost every culture, dragons are unanimously considered both amcient and extremely powerful, though usually not representing the creator-deity, which would be the source energy representation. Anyway, cool vid, Lockstin! I'm hyped for dragon month

KriegsMeister27 yeah, plus moves like dragon rage, literally just a dragons rage, twister, a harsh unnatural hurricane, and dragon claw, which is described as a slashing with huge claws. @shaesullivan5 жыл бұрын
Dragon Energy = Life Energy = Aura Energy?
@Arctic79855 жыл бұрын
@@shaesullivan. Not nessesarily. I believe dragon energy, aura energy, etc. are derived from the same energy source. Pokemon like Lucario can either release the energy in a blast of raw power like a dragon, (Dragon Pulse) or hone it into a more refined, controlled state (Aura Sphere). It also seems like Lucario can use other type attacks with his aura, (Bone rush) and essentially transform the aura into other forms. It's like every Pokemon can draw from the aura according to their type, but Lucario has the connection to the aura pure enough to manipulate it. The Pokedex does say every living thing has an aura. So you are correct. Dragon energy and aura energy are both types of life energy, but aura is more refined.
@necrozma56394 жыл бұрын
I agree, Aura Energy seems like a more refined type of Dragon Energy, or Life Energy. I also feel that Lucario is a master of both Dragon and Aura Energy, and that he should be recognized as some sort of deity in the past. Too bad he isn’t. Unless ‘Lucario and the Mystery of Mew’ counts.
@draco19654 жыл бұрын
For what I know, both energies come from “mana” the life force (or something alike) and the power of dragon Type is pure mana, as strong and “raw” as it can be, being fired towards you. The aura would be a little bit more canalized mana, not so powerful, but still pure enough for it not to be considered as “fairy” or “light magic”
@Arctic79854 жыл бұрын
@@draco1965 Aura is obviously more refined than Dragon energy. My thoughts are that Lucario can release his aura in a less concentrated blast to attack enemies. Thus he can learn dragon pulse.

I forget where I heard this, (probably some fantasy book or movie) but it's a line that goes like this. "Magic is like any other resource. Take earth for example. A rock in it's pure form is powerful and dangerous, but difficult to wield. However if you take a piece of that rock, sharpen it, and combine it with another resource, you have a spear." I think it sort of explains the sorcerer vs. mage thing.

Dragons across world mythology have a lot of variety, this was pointed out in the video, but they even had quite a bit of variety within individual nations. For example, when someone says "English dragon" most people immediately jump a variant of the classic European dragon, the one slain by Saint George of the Dragon in particular, but Great Britain (which gets its name from the old name of Britannia) has a lesser-known dragon in its own lore (one I'm hoping is referenced in Sword and Shield once the games have been released) called the Lampton Worm, it's described as having an earthworm-like body with the head of dragon, said body is described as actually being quite soft but to make up for this its body is said literally grow back together from wherever it was cut, the stories about that I found didn't mention it ever having a breath weapon though, which is odd since it is part of English lore. In fact, in some cases, dragons were described as being linked with faeries in old European stories, modern interpretations would have them referred to as "faerie creatures" due to their strong link with unknown or supernatural forces. Fun fact, for next month, Faerie was a general catchall for supernatural creature way back when. For crying out loud, Irish lore talks of the Dullahan (which is described as being a sort of manifestation of the aspect of death and is said to have the appearance of a headless rider with a headless horse or headless coach driver with a team of headless horses, it's said they keep their own heads in the saddle or nearby and use it like a lantern, I haven't found where the horse heads are kept though), Brownie (pronounced Broo-Nee, which described as a mischievous fey that will become a servant that literally works for scraps if you manage to catch it), and the Kelpie (the Irish Kelpie is described as being a black horse that has the ability to change its form between its natural form, a big black dog, and person dressed in all black that seeks to drown mortals in the waters they call home then rip out their livers to feed upon); and that's just Irish lore. English faerie lore has tales of the Spriggan, human-sized fey that have an aggressive warrior mentality and the ability to grow to the size of the tallest trees and was often claimed as a perpetrator of the changeling phenomenon; Germany has the tales of the Erl King and Kobolds (which are much different in their description in German lore than that of their classic Fantasy description that was popularized by D&D). And Hobgoblins are found all over European lore, especially England, Scotland, and Ireland and are very different from the portrayals usually given in classic Fantasy that was popularized by D&D. Before the term Goblin meant the usually pint-sized green skinned critters with pointy ears we know today, the term way back in the Medieval and Renaissance eras was a term meaning "ugly faerie" and, this bit needs to be stressed for modern folks, elf was often used interchangeably with the word faerie because in those days elf and faerie meant the same thing for most of Europe, Elf had its own separate meaning in Scandinavia that was adopted by Tolkien for his stories when he got around to writing them.

Your totally on it. In the Arceus movie, Arceus uses the dragon plate as part of the jewel of life because it knew dragon would make the jewel more powerful. Add on top of that, Dialga, Palkia and Giratina who are viewed as DIETIES have dragon typing. Dragon, regardless of how much magical stuff you wanna tie to it is AT LEAST clearly established as being naturally (or perhaps supernaturally) powerful, for the sake of being powerful.

Historically, wyvern and dragon as words are synonyms. The distinction everyone keeps pointing out is a "the media made this mainstream and now everyone thinks it's more specific than it has to be" situation, just like Lockstin mentioned about magic. And Monster Hunter gets a few things in that regard wrong if you want to go by "generic" terminology, because what they call "Fanged Wyverns" anywhere else would be called a Drake.

maybe because Arcane Energy/ Infinity Energy - the energy of which dragons harness are raw energies that haven't blended with nature yet (which is the concept of Mana from the other games) and the reason why they aren't able to use elemental magic, and can only use the raw one is because their aggresiveness cannot coexist with nature itself.

I mean, this would explain why there is no defined "Magic" type. Dragon type is the official name for the Magic type. An interesting thing to note is that I tried crossing over the Pokemon types with the most common array I could think of magical elements, basically generalizing some of the Pokemon types. (Example: Dark type was Shadow element, and Fairy was Light Element.) Then I had Psychic/Ghost/Poison be Spirit type, and Dragon was Mana type. Mana type, huh??? I didn't know why it made sense, it just kinda did. Now I know why it makes sense.
