Your dragons are really wonderful! I love the whimsical look!

Thank you, Marta! This was the first gourd that inspired me to make dragons. There was just something in the curve of the neck!

You might try Diamond Glaze for gluing the wire- it dries transparent. Thanks for the tute!

How thick was the wire you used to make the wings with please? They are absolutely beautiful!!
@RachelArmington6 жыл бұрын
For my fairy figures and dragons, I use colored aluminum craft wire (sometimes called jewelry wire). The wire is very soft and bendable, so even though I used 15 gauge wire, it was actually very easy to work with. Thank you, Heidi!

What type of glue would you recommend?
@RachelArmington7 жыл бұрын
I personally like Aleene's Quick Tack Glue. I'm sure other glues would work just fine, as long as they dry clear. Be careful not to put on the glue too thickly or it might not dry all the way through (and will stay white). Enjoy!

thank you, I have just ordered it. I know from experience the wrong glue can cause you no end of problems.

Ooops! I didn't type the "Y" for "Tacky" Glue! It's a great glue, and can be watered down a bit if you need it for other projects. Thanks, Antony!

can i use a iron to do this ? and what kind of glue?
@RachelArmington9 жыл бұрын
+Jyl Zuyus Hello! I apologize for the lateness of my reply. I personally use Aileen's Tacky Glue, but I try to use it as sparingly as possible as it stays opaque if not completely dried. I have tried several other glues, including some that were supposedly specifically formulated for fairy wings....unfortunately they didn't bond as well as Tacky. As for using an iron, Definitely yes! At this point, I iron first, then use the embosser if I want to burn holes. Place the wings between parchment paper and then iron, beginning with a low heat. Irons vary, but better to slowly work up the temperature than to burn. There are also pads out there to cover the wings as you iron, but parchment works for me. Enjoy! Best, Rachel M

Judy...KZbin won't let me post...
@RachelArmington9 жыл бұрын
Hi Judy...KZbin keeps freezing me out for some reason...I am working on a tutorial for larger wings that I will post on Fairy-Paintings.com, but it probably won't be ready until the summer.

What I've been working on is using cardboard as a support for the wings instead of the sharp ended coat hanger supports that a lot of other tutorials use

Fantasy film is very expensive in larger sheets, so I've been just using shrink wrap, which can be layered. You can buy it online (Darice makes some nice shrinkwrap) or your local Michael's or JoAnnes' might have some. I have a newsletter cat-paintings.com/signup/ where I will be posting when tutorials are put up on my websites...sorry about the broken up answer, can't figure out what is going on with

Good idea to run the wires against what was drawn. Never thought of that. I plan on making wings for one of my Figma males. Simply drawing the layout of a flat 'bat wing' then apply this and reinforce the joints by knotting them which will look just like bone joints of the wings. Awesome! Thanks!

That is a great idea! I've been mulling over how to attach wings to figures for a while. I had an old composition doll who was in pretty bad shape who I was turning into a fairy...but by the time I restrung her, fixed the cracks, repainted and gave her new hair, I lost my fire. I ended up giving the doll away to someone who said she liked her. I couldn't figure out whether I wanted to attach wings below or on top of the clothing, but with Figma you don't have to worry!
