I always thought Dragon Ball GT was darker compared to any of the other series, and I stand by that. It just gave off such a different more sinister vibe. The Z fighters haven't fought in God knows how long and look at them in this series: getting their butts kicked and having to pull off the stops to take on powerful foes after being comfortable for so long

I like the idea of the Shadow Dragons. Think about it, the Dragon Balls suppose to be mystical orbs that grants 1 wish in Dragon Ball (2 wishes in Z thanks to Dende) but throughout the series they were overused especially in Z to bring back the dead by some villain. In Super there’s this one episode where Goku wants to wish King Kai back to life but everyone wants to hog all the wishes to themselves. Like Pan was sick so Gohan wanted to wish the sickness to go away and I’m there like “really?! Sickness is natural it goes away I don’t care if it’s a baby, that’s part of being a parent”

Toriyama actually did some work on GT. He named it grand tour, did character designs for the intial story and may have gave some story input again on the initial story. He appreciated the Super Saiyan 4 design and even did his own a SSJ4 drawing of goku for the gt boxset if my memory is correct. Toriyama called GT a grand "side story" to the his DB story.

DB super does make GT officially non canon just by 3 things Toriyama did. 1) pilaf and his gang used the dragon balls to become young again in Super and now live/work with Bulma while in GT they were old and had not seen goku and the others since the pilaf arc in the beginning of dragon ball. Plus all the SSJ god forms now exist and make SSj4 power wise a redundant form (eventhough SSJ4 is such a bad ass looking form) I've actually been revisiting GT this weekend and found the 3rd thing that makes GT non canon is Supreme Kai is still fused with Kibito kai while in DB Super by the time of the universe 6 and 7 tournament Supreme Kai had already found a way to separate himself. Plus we discover that Toriyama changed the Patora fusion rules to actually have a time limit before splitting back into 2 people instead of the fusion being permanent. Toriyama did incorporate the idea that the Namakiens originally came from another realm before migrating into universe 7 into the super manga which came from GT(its implied its a godly realm which is why they can create dragon balls and the GT head writer insisted that when Goku leaves with Shenron at the end of GT it is the original realm the Namakiens came from they both go to which is why no one saw Goku again at the end of GT for 100 years because no one but godly beings can travel there) the idea comes from Daoist philosophy and myth of Daoist priest faking their deaths and ascending on a sparrow or dragon to a new realm where the Daoist priest ascends into being a God themselves.

Honesty, I like GT more than Super lol. I like the aesthetic of GT the most, its just the stories weren't as good as Z but I still liked how all the characters looked and how their transformations in GT looked the most. The ss4 forms looking like wukong for real, and that Baby Vegeta Gorilla form or whatever its called was sick af. The main cast was designed by Toriyama and it got a rock and roll and rap soundtrack. Funimation adapted it impeccably for western audiences.

Gt was how I got into the series back when I was 4, and I will always love it, it hurt back in the day when I had to learn Gt was “bad” “non cannon”. But it will always be quite good in my eyes, it has some flaws, but all great things do
