Love the coverage of Dragonbane... I have a feeling, given my country's closer association with Europe, that Iv seen the original in the early-ish 90's (I wanna say)? Still, I love seeing this come back, and I really hope more people start picking it up! ...that, and GRP's AGE System! LOL!

I'd love to add a copy of the original to my collection. It's all in Swedish, which I cannot read, but I'd still love to have a copy. I could grab one from ebay, but I much more prefer to find it "in the wild" , which I figure will be next to impossible where I live haha

Have you played it? I know you did the kickstarter, it was you talking about it that got me to check it out.

I love roll low games. Cairn 2e, for instance, does it very well.

This sounds interesting Kind of opposite of the way you usually think for rolling dice except in GURPS but those are d6's

and vampire with it's d10's. It still gets me on occasion when we roll and it's a 1.. I have to concentrate on it meaning that it's a success haha

Huh. This looks pretty cool! The inverse of the d20 would mess with me XD

it's a fun game. Not as super rules heavy as others, but it still has a good amount of mechanics. It's well balanced.

@@gamemasters I found the choose your own bane but explain mechanism very interesting. Also curious as to the monster attack mechanism. Sounds like it would speed up play and potentially put more emphasis on the characters and story.

Now the question becomes what can we take from this into 5e
@FrozenThrog3 ай бұрын
But why?
@gamemasters3 ай бұрын
not sure why you would want to? I mean.. if you wanna play 5e, play 5e. if you want to play Dragonbane (or something else) play that instead.

While the mechanics are certainly different, coming from a 5e background i found it remarkably easy to grasp the rules of Dragonbane. A lot of what you're used to has some similar but new take in this system but more so than 5e they all kinda interplay in a way that makes taking just one mechanic from here and putting it into 5e a bit difficult. Instead i'd say just try out the system wholesale and see what you think! It'll feel familiar yet fresh c: Tho i suppose if i were to pick one single thing that could 100% be ported over, i'd be the death rules. Similar to 5e you do still have death saves, 3 successes you survive and 3 failures and you die. However, not only do you instead have to roll under your own Constitution score to succeed, you also regain 1d6hp when you get 3 successes(which is equivalent to a short rest in this system). Moreover you also aren't entirely out of the fight whenever you're making death saves. Dragonbane allows you to get back up on your feet and keep fighting while still making death saves if you either succeed on a roll under your Willpower score or an ally succeeds on a Persuasion check to motivate you. You still take a failed death save if you're ever struck while "Rallied" but you actually get to do stuff as opposed to just twiddling your thumbs. In 5e terms i'd just switch the Willpower roll to either a Constitution or Strength roll, keep the Persuasion check but make the DC equal to the persuading character's Charisma. As for the number healed after succeeding 3 saves, i'd probably make it either 1hp per your level of a number of d6 equal to your Proficiency or something.
