VERY VERY RARE - Highgate Fire Station crews are called out to a high rise fire call, which Is then escalated to a confirmed job, (which is when the the alarm went off for the second time) in Birmingham last Monday (15.07.19) on blues and wailers. You can see the Hydraulic Platform, and 1st pump turning out.
The second pump was stood down before leaving as the crews were moved to the HP as it was upgraded to a confirmed job.
Huge Thanks to the Awesome crews for inviting me inside the station and showing e around!

@@EnidAgnusDei Our ones been at the volvo workshops for over a month, we've been running an 04 Scania, which Is much more reliable. 15 years old and it just keeps on going. I much prefer the old proper manual pump than the electric ones. The Volvos pump has been broken more times than I can remember.

In the mid seventies, I was in Avon Fire Brigade. From alarm to exiting the doors was normally under 1 minute, with a run or fast walk to the appliance and getting dressed in fire kit on route. There appears a complete lack of urgency in a lot of these turn out videos these days. For Christ sake, somebody could be in really desperate need of help. Looks like they are having another cup of tea before they leave the station

To be fair to these guys, the call details and appliances attending was changed midway through the turnout, hence the bells going off again and them swapping to the HP. So obviously this caused a fair bit of confusion

@dragonemergencyvideos 5 жыл бұрын
Size is not everything, the UK has efficiently used smaller appliances for many decades due to the size of our streets. Our cities are older, and were built in times where cars and trucks had never been dreamed of. Our trucks carry all the necessary equipment, and are built in such a way that everything has a specific place, and it all fits. What is wrong with the Aerial Ladder Truck? It's an excellent piece of kit, and a really reliable machine Thanks for watching, and regards from the UK!
@scottdd2
@scottdd2 5 жыл бұрын
The issue I believe is that the US are so stuck on tradition and ways of doing things that they hamstring themselves in design. One example is the hose bed on the back. It takes up a lot of space and doesn't really give any tactical advantage in fire fighting (you can see that here on KZbin). European and I'm classing the UK in that, (for now anyway:) ) appliances are much better designed and in the end probably more cost efficient than the North American ones.I'm sure if fire departments in North America were open to change then fire appliance manufacturers like Seagrave or Peirce would shorten the wheel base and do a compact body. If anyone is good on Photoshop, I think a hybrid US cab/Euro body could look good.As Dragon says, size isn't everything, it's the training and design that make all the difference.

The Aerial Ladder Platform is a Bronto Skylift F32RLX. It will reach to a height of 32 meters (105 ft) It has an outreach of 23.2 meters (76 ft) It has a 500 kg cage capacity (1,100 pounds) It will pump water from the cage at 3,800 litres per minute (835 UK gallons per minute) It weighs about 18 tonnes. This is just a baby when it comes to Brontos. They build ALP's from 22 meters up to 112 meters (367 ft) and can pump water from 2,500 litres per min up to 12,000 litres per min (2,640 UK gallons per minute.

Slowest response on record? Retained crews turnout quicker than this lot!
@dragonemergencyvideos
@dragonemergencyvideos 5 жыл бұрын
There were good reasons fot this - firstly, the crew had only just come on duty when the call came in, so they weren't all prepared properly. Secondly, the call was very confusing, as details were sketchy, and then they were changed to the HP mid way through getting into the pump (notice the tannoy went off again here)
@williamheber2118
@williamheber2118 5 жыл бұрын
@@dragonemergencyvideos What is just came on duty? I see their gear is on the floor in place. It's a highrise response, so why isn't the ladder on the first response card? So the officer in charge doesn't have assignments prior to crew getting on? Nothing confusing. I call it poor planning.
@dragonemergencyvideos
@dragonemergencyvideos 5 жыл бұрын
@@williamheber2118 The first thing firefighters do is put the gear in place. They were checking the pump at the time. Like many UK FRS's, W.M.F.S doesn't send the HP to high rise alarms to keep it available for more urgent calls. They share a crew, so when the job was upped to a confirmed fire, they had to switch trucks (when the tannoy went off for the 2nd time). Any person with experience of the Fire service would see that as confusing. Say what you want but at the end of the day, they're out there saving lives, rather than moaning on KZbin.. And for the record, I work for the Fire service myself

Another reason they go separate ways is incase the appliances get stuck in traffic on way to a job, meaning if they go different ways the likely hood of them still getting an appliance on scene is higher than them all being stuck in traffic. Better to have 1 than none.

@@adamjamesdj... You are sooooooo wrong. It's 100% an ALP, mate. HPs are two- or three-boomed and the cage is positioned at the back of the chassis. It's the only place it can go (in the UK anyway). ALPs are a cross between an HP and a TL (turntable ladder). The main boom is telescopic while the end piece is articulated to provide manouvrebility much like a three-piece HP, but better. The cage on a UK ALP ALWAYS sits amidships. Trust me, I know about these things! 👍

adamjamesdj .... thanks for the offer, and keep up the good work, mate. But whatever you happen to call it, it’s still an aerial ladder platform. Angloco have the UK rights for Bronto Skylift, one of the largest producers of Aerial Ladder Platforms in the world. All UK ALPs are manufactured at the Angloco factory near Leeds. And they don’t make HPs. In fact there are very few HPs left on-the-run in the UK since the demise of Simon Snorkel, the main producer. And the ones still operational are up to thirty-years-old having been re-chassied (sometimes twice) as the truck never lasts as long as the booms themselves. Greater Manchester FRS still run a couple of such vehicles, but I’m fairly certain WMFS only runs ALPs these days..... After all, I remember when West Mids operated ten aerials - with a Dennis/Magirus TL at A1) Central, an ERF/Simon SS263 HP at A6) Ward End, an ERF/SS263 HP at B1) Solihull, a Volvo/Bronto/Angloco ALP at B3) Coventry Central, a Dodge/ Gloster Saro Simon SS263 HP at C4) Bournebrook, an ERF/SS263 HP at C7) Ladywood, a Shelvoke & Drewry/Simon HP at D1) Oldbury, an ERF/Magirus TL at D2) Brierley Hill, a Dennis/Magirus TL at E1) Walsall, and a Shelvoke &Drewry/Simon SS263 HP at E5) Wolverhampton............ Bet you can’t! 👍
