Love the boat and my next boat that we will circumnavigate with under all the Capes will be a Trimaran however I would love to see the Spray Dodger as a permanent hard top option, a solution for stowing a dingy and easily deploying it off a rear davit, an option of a carbon mast with in mast or in boom furling do as to be able to reef singe handed without leaving the cockpit, a small generator option, small 12v water maker option, and the ability to make the forward cabin a workshop with a watertight door making it an additional watertight bulkhead. Cannot wait to see the carbon version we will be purchasing for delivery in 2024.

Absolutely wonderful. Great design and execution. By nature, I am one of those guys who look for faults. There is almost nothing to question here. Almost. A very important thing that needs to be addressed is the exposed sail drive. It needs a protective tapered skeg in front of it to deflect those villainous, lobster/crab pot lines, the occasional free floating fishing net or HARD junk that fell off a freighter, floating just below the surface. If you run over one of those at 15 knots the sail drive could be dislodged or ripped out, leaving a large hole in your hull. It is a simple fix. The other thing is that you did not address the battery banks. Obviously, there is a battery for the engine and a house bank. Where are they; how many are they and what is the recharge capability? I could be wrong, but I do not think those small solar panels on the amas' are sufficient. That leaves the engine alternator, which is probably not the best way to power a boat with electric winches, lights, installed electronics and those power using devices brought on board. One possible solution is to install electrical connections such that large flexible solar panels can be tied down to the trampolines, or a removable arch over the helm stations. Or, maybe you already have a plan but you just didn't address it in the video. But again, an incredibly thought out machine. I want one.

I wish I knew how to sail and handle this boat. I only sailed a sunfish when a kid. My dream is to live and sail this type of boat. At 62 I’m afraid this dream just won’t happen. Not enough time or money to fulfill but simply an amazing craft. I have studied many boats and the combination of attention to detail on the dragonfly puts many larger craft to shame. What a great company

Thanks for this great and very informative video! The only other manufacturer with such an extensive video is Sirius yachts. Wish all manufacturers would produce this type of videos. Instead they only produce cinematic marketing clips which focus on sunrays between the sails and fruit baskets on tables. If you built a great boat you should have the desire to really introduce it in depth.

Would like to see "versa" helm that either swings or slides from port to starboard (and back) for different tack. Liked the stern transom that folds flat out or in and contains a boarding plank for Med. style stern to the wall docking. Would like to see feasibility on 25hp outboards mounted on each ama float that tilt up out of the water to eliminate sail drive to park boat on beach. Excellent hatches improve interior visibility, ventilation, spacious feel. Impressive design and execution. Congratulations.

The boat of my dreams. Perfect size to combine family sailing and solo. Usually when I look at the boat I see huge list of modifications that I would do for personal preferences. Not in this case. Pretty much everything is spot on and it looks so good. I'm from Finland and I like to be out at sea in early and late season. Just there when sea sea is about to freeze or just after it starts to melt. Personally I don't enjoy getting wet or cold when it's windy or rainy. Thats why my boat would come with a big hard top to cover the whole cockpit all the way to the main sheet. Most likely to be closed down with a canvas back wall as well. And I'm sure the future is electric in sailing boats. No propane, no diesel. My boat would come with a electric motor and electric appliances that has to be accompanied with a big battery banks that could be charged throug the shore power, hydro generator feature of the engine as well as the solar panels on floats and the hard top. Yes that's would be it. The boat of my dreams...

If Quorning could move that forward bulkhead further aft, then there would be more standing room infront of the bed in the forward cabin. The two cupboards in the saloon would be in the forward cabin as well, where they would increase the hanging locker space. It would make quite a difference to the usability. What would the structural implications be?

Now I see why you went with dual helm stations due to the placement of the engine and the engine access panel. However, it is still a skinny boat, so you could have a tilting wheel that could swing it to the center of the cockpit if necessary, which probably still would not be necessary. So, either one of the helm stations would be sufficient. The more I watch your video the more I like your boat!

This Dragonfly looks awesome and so much worth the money. BUT: for a longer Trip (maybe 1 year or 2) the space living space is not that big - I would love to see something like a Hybrid of the actual Dragonfly with the Neel series (in a reasonable finishing quality!), including the moving outer parts of the Dragonfly, but with a bit higher and wider cockpit and living room. And also more loading space. I know, the performance will decrease but it would still be much faster than a monohull or a cruising kat.

When it comes to trimarans you certainly get what you pay for: these are not cheap when compared to Corsair etc but it’s rare to be able to see “all” the details that make it so, this is a Rolls Royce when compared to most others: also great to see and hear the family owners give the rundown themselves, it shows pride in their product.

A pet peeve of mine is that designers want to provide dining space for two to three times more people than the boat should accommodate. This is not a forty foot long monohull that can accommodate a small family. It is a skinny, husband and wife, superfast cruiser. Quit installing interior seating and table for eight or ten people who might be on board three percent of the time! Design the interior for the sailors, not the occasional guests!!!!!!!!!!!!! More storage, more kitchen counter space, more refrigeration/freezing. Not more useless restaurant diners. Still like the boat, but I would have to customize it to make it useable.
@darthkek1953
@darthkek1953 9 күн бұрын
Even the smallest models have the exact same bench seat and tables as they also convert into berths. And the table is not just for dining, it is for office use, seating, doing some work at, let alone it just makes use of the slim hull. You have to bear in mind even with the larger DF models you have a weight limit. It's not a monohull you can load up with 2 tons of water and 4 tons of coal (real old day couples cruising) this model, wet, on smallest engines is 6200 KG. Your MAXIMUM weight without crew is 7900 KG. That 1700kg very quickly starts to get used. Woodwork, appliances, tenders, watermakers, generators, generator fuel, and for a boat like this that's a maximum - not a target. But even so if you know you'll be OK within weight limits why not just retrofit to your specifications? I know a Brit who bought a US monohull, got rid of the air con and put had a solid fuel stove built in. A retrofit won't be expensive (compared to new price) and you can tailor to your exact needs.

A fantastic video walk-through by Peter, and no doubt the DF40 is a very well designed boat. I see the attraction and the performance is impressive. With regard to it being capable of blue water cruising I didn't hear any mention of a generator, water maker, radar, more cold storage and a significant battery bank (to name just a few things) which would be essential. As for the price, which you mentioned on the Yachting World video in July 2020 (€650K-700K plus a lot of mention of 'optional' items) this is a very big premium over (for example) other quality 40' boats such as the Hallberg-Rassy 40C (~€470K including taxes) - that makes the price a big ask (just my opinion).

Overall, as a sailor since childhood, this boat seems inordinately complex to sail, and possibly to maintain, as well. This impression may derive from your son's presentation, but I think that instead, the boat in fact is complex, well-designed, but complicated to sail, needing just constant attention, and not providing a relaxed experience simply to enjoy. It does look beautiful, though. Thank you for your attention if you have read this note.
