I think it's crazy that such a talented dev team like Facepunch has put all their eggs in one basket. They should have put Rust on the back burner years ago (back when it was fun.) I really hope Rust supports the development of modding, this is how you can truly make the game what you've wanted! Everyone's got to remember Rust originally came after the development of Garry's Mod, and it was always a sandbox environment, even though it's been given more direction in recent years. Awesome presentation work on this Shadowfrax! Super happy you shared spotlight to these great developers.

So basicaly Carbon lets you completely rework the games skripts and assets and forces clients to adhear? So one could completely change the game to, let's say "pong", and everybody that joins just plays pong? Sound intressting and above all: extremly dangerous. Unity can deliver maleware. I see the benefits of carbon but what are the carbon devs planning on doing against malicious mods being forced to client who join modded servers? Whats facepunch stance on this? As they could be made liable as well, as modded servers are reachable via their game, etc.? I love the modding comunity in most of my games. But there are ALWAYS bad actors. You have to keep them in mind. This needs to be sorted out, if it is, then this will be the greates addition to rust since the rework from lagacy.

As of right now, you are not able to send code through addons. Carbon client is closed source, and does not allow for any custom mono behavior. Rn addons will only load prefabs with already rust components.

I've been saying we need a fantasy medieval version of Rust for some time now. Literally just use the SAME EXACT formula for gameplay as Rust but just fantasy stuff. Instead of guns, give us wands that shoot spells. Many explosives can stay but be reskinned and more powerful stuff like C4 could be runes you draw with magic ink/chalk (that'd be the item) and rocket launchers would be fireball staffs that you use another component as the rocket ammo for. Basically just re texture and change the names and an entire other group of people would become interested in the game!

We need more medieval stuff in the vanilla game, it would just be cool to see in this type of world. Hear me out though, and roofcampers, eat your heart out. Mountable. Ballistas. Facepunch. Make it happen. Let me roofcamp with a Ballista so I can make clans angy that way. If you make a Medieval Rust, I would love that. And I'm sure others would. The same Rust gameplay, but in medieval style would be a great survival game.

Servers will probably stay quite similar to the standard game. I just don't see why a lot of people would be playing rust in order to play minecraft. Personally, I would just like a server that has more guns, vehicles, upgrades, a better UI and upgrade mechanics, more enemies, better monuments, and better building. It feels stupid that everything currently is so bound by how much the company can release.

I originally got into rust playing on a server called Dark Ages. (Holdacious made a video on it awhile back I’m King Zox in it) I use to play it every single day and still have friends from that server to this day it doesn’t exist anymore but if you actually made that server shadowfrax it would just about be the best thing to happen to rust servers in a long long time. The bi product makes other games ascend in popularity such as subsistence and sunken land. I played subsistence just to try it.. 2 hours later I am hooked and uninstalled rust. A real survival type would appreciate the loyalty to the craft and not be sold out. Cold games is a one man army.
