I thought your idea that Runara was afraid her presence could push some kind of mystical imbalance into catastrophe was a good idea. Great way to keep her hesitant to take action. Bronze dragons are typically the most warlike of metallic dragons. This could make for some dissonance with her kobolds, who I like to make mirror some aspects of the dragons around them. They could take on her old nature, making them a source of frustration and a reminder of who she once was. It's also a good source of discussion when her true nature is known. A hero who understands dragons might clue into this change. Pacifists are MOST rare among Bronze Dragons.

I wish I could take credit for the idea but this one is straight from the module!

The 3-man party is so much fun. What Jake said about being short-handed creating tension is true, but it also moves faster. Combat keeps a good pace, and the DM has more time to devote to each character's development. I stick to 4 as a maximum, with the occasional 5th man guest star, because I have a lot of gamer friends I like to be around. But man ... that 3-man group is just so good. If any of ya'll want to see a 3-man party in action and how good it can be, check out this man's run of Dragon of Icespire Peak.

Do you tell your players the “Adventure Background” in the introduction of the game or is that kept within the game and revealed at a different time? I’m a first time DM prepping to play my first game

For Stormwreck Isle, definitely not all of it, but it would depend on if it would make sense for a character to know some things. If there's a reasonable path to a more scholarly character to know some of the religious or historical info in there, I might tell some things like the history of dragons and how Bahamut and Tiamat became rivals, but no specific details about Runara, Sharuth, or anything else like that.

@@JNJTabletop That makes sense! I guess less is more in some cases

It most definitely is. When I approach decisions like that, I try to imagine my favorite movies, tv shows, video games, etc… and then I think about how much fun the journey was as I discovered more about what’s happening. When/If a player asks what their character knows about something, you have some info ready to go and they will feel good about gaining more knowledge because they asked and their character build helped!
