Dragons' Den

4 жыл бұрын

Gavin Davis takes to The Den to present his unique baby gripping product, an idea that prevents babies from choking risks and hazards. Gavin is off to a promising start as he asks for £150K investment for a 20% return of his business. But how will The Dragons react when they discover that his "child-safe' product is not as safe as he may have thought?
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

@@romangd8366 Babies put everything in their mouths, if Mom has one of these in her purse Baby could easily reach in & grab it. It's like a security problem: it doesn't matter if you're right 99% of the time, that last 1% does all the damage. With a product intended for use around babies or small children, you have to assume they will get their hands on it & will put it in their mouths so you have to make it as choke-proof as possible.

@@remchaill9898 'other guy' wasn't wrong. Don't just believe all the comments saying it's not an issue. It might be a small one but as Barbara said, when dealing with children (or just humans in general) your products have to be fool proof. If you sell millions there's guaranteed to be at least one child who chokes on it somehow, and that's all it'll take to kill the business. The other investors agree that it's a real issue (and that's why they backed out), and so does he, which is why he didn't argue about it. Companies spend a lot of money fool-proofing their products just because of that 1 in a million idiots who will find a way to harm themselves with your product, look up the word 'Poka-Yoke'.

This could be licensed to a company that manufactures high chairs, and they could incorporate this in the seat as a permanent placement. That would eliminate the choking hazard and would be a great selling point to choose one brand of a high chair over a competitor's.

As if a baby would turn round and grab it and tear it apart like that. You could easily find a solution, like making it thicker. Kids should be supervised anyway, a slip happens in a second, tearing it up and choking on it takes time.

To solve the ripping-choking problem, why not design a more permanent and larger pad that wraps around and under a high chair seat that will be used over and over. Then use a smaller pad when you are out and have eyes on the baby so it doesn't pick and rip at the pad.
