Nightlights over the years till our time could have inbreeded causing Nightlights to become weaker then the first generation of Nightlights. Would also explain why Thunder looks so different and so similar to Toothless its because of inbreeding.

Yeah but there's an issue- if the nightlights have been with the lightfuries for hundreds if not thousands of years, then they would be much lighter, some would even be completely white. They look like they came out of a dumpster fire AND they are much weaker, which is common with inbreeding.
