So breaking this down - she has a published book that had poor sales, with a publisher whose only other presumed success was with his own book, a cinematographer who claimed to have 18 years in the business yet could not tell Denise any of them, and a mystery actor who wanted a million pounds, which took a huge chunk out of her already small budget, whilst his name couldn't be divulged for legal reasons. Denise has either been taken for a ride, or she is grasping at straws to fulfil her dream.

@@WobblesandBean well maybe, however i think her first and biggest mistake was to go with a publisher who didnt have the budget for marketing. If the book was good any of the big publishers would've snapped it up. And maybe they weren't even offered it because she seems to be too much of a control freak.
@yokosukamxy72 жыл бұрын
The reason why it failed is because Denise along with Count Anton and his army of goblins were in a strange town called Budapest. They get to a traffic light and their satnav says "tUrN rIgHt", they have to turn right, but what tells them there's oncoming traffic? In London this is no problem since they have flow signals there, but what if you go to Greece, a destination well known for its lack of flow signals? Well all Denise had to do was fit a Shuc Flow Signal to her book. It's amber in colour, it's mimicking the traffic coming into the junction. Thanks to this invention, the goblins will be able to make it to the Danube to meet Rory so they can catch seaweed together.

Kevin Robert McNelly. The search result for actor who's been in pirates and phantom. He's been in several pirates movies. I suppose she contacted his agent they said his fee is one million pounds for her that meant he would do it

I'm slightly worried she's manic. I hope she's alright. It was an amateurish and naive pitch, sure. But, it was heartfelt, and my heart goes out to her.

nah she's just a frickin weirdo
@WobblesandBean5 ай бұрын
Don't. She's not manic, she's a narcissist. Go read a review of the book by issendai, it's hilarious, and Denise reacted by hurling abuse at issendai and tried to have the negative review wiped from the internet. Streisand Effect who?

The fact that the Google search autofilled after just a few characters tells me that everyone who has watched this pitch knows who the actor is.

I like Denise. I am not sure if she has something commercial but if I was on her position I would enjoy what she does have, even if it may be only a hobby.

Denise went on to write many other books, including two more books in the 'Dance' series with increasingly good reviews, most of the reviews coming in from recent re-evaluations. Apparently, the trilogy has more than 67% 5 stars! People have praised how Denise has told an original story - not by any means an 'epic fantasy' series but one that actually comments on society and the downfall of humanity. The problem with this pitch was that the Dragons weren't convinced there was demand for the film because she made the mistake of going to a very unknown publisher for her books. That being said, all new authors have to start somewhere and she may have been rejected if she went to a better publisher.

Well done, Denise! I've watched the trailer for the movie and it looks awful, but only because of the poor production quality. The ideas look interesting.

In an alternate universe, Dance of the Goblins is the most successful fantasy franchise ever created, and J.R.R.Tolkien was laughed out of Dragons' Den for his preposterous pitch for 'Lord of the Rings' which he thought might make for an interesting children's film.
