Dragonslayer's Den presents DRAGONPLAYER: FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE

For as divisive as this game was, I still have to say that I loved it, from start to end. Sure, I had the period where I didn't quite know what to make of the ending, as most people did, but ultimately I've arrived at the conclusion that I approve of what Square did and outright consider it a daring work of subversive genius. I mean, (and consider this a spoiler warning if you, who read this, have not yet played FF7R,) ch.17-18 was pretty ham-fisted about the message/meta commentary that the plot armour that a remake provides its characters actually kinda sucks all excitement out of the plot. And now, looking back at it, I have to agree: If they had gone the safe route and released a game that was just a remake, then it would've been pretty forgettable. I would've played through it once and I would've been really happy with the remake I got. Now I have instead played through the game 3 times, once on every difficulty, and I've spent at least a dozen hours watching people talk about what FF7Remake means, both in regards to FFVII, and to video games themselves as a whole. I mean, sure, Undertale is a video game about video games, but I don't think I have ever seen a remake _about remakes_ before. Has it ever been done before? I honestly don't know, but this was a very good introduction to the concept... Now, so long as part 2 doesn't get too Kingdom Hearts-y, I gotta say we're in for one wild ride.

Nice comment! I'm a bit on the fence about the whole possible ret-con aspect of "defeating destiny"... cause I guess we both know what they are probably steering towards with that, regarding the fate of specifically one character :/ I hope they don't go through with that, as that was one of the biggest things that made the OG so impactful back in the days, and made the storyline all the more engrossing. If they change that... yeah I guess there's a danger of diluting what made FFVII so great to begin with, and calling it "Kingdom Hearts-y" is probably very accurate haha.

@@OfficialDragonyAT Yeah, I get what you mean... That said, I've even come to appreciate that fence sitting anxiety. Quite simply because, if Remake had played it safe, then I would just be looking forward to that moment with a kind of resigned anticipation. Kinda like, "Yeah, I know it's coming, and I'm probably gonna cry, but it was such a shocking and impactful moment in the original!" Now I'm instead sitting here going, "Are they going to be _that_ ballsy? Are they going to spare her? ...nnnah, they can't possibly do that. If they spare her then- but _what if...?"_ And, honestly, I kinda like that. I like _not knowing_ where the plot is headed. It's a very different kind of appreciation. Also, if we take into consideration the overwhelming implications that Sephy is somehow aware of the events that transpired in the original game then he's also aware of the fact that she is the greatest threat to his grand scheme. (In fact, the very first thing he tried to do in Remake was delay Cloud's arrival to their first meeting so he'd miss her and, when that didn't work, harass Cloud so he'd leave before any proper interaction could occur between the two.) And if he's aware of the threat she poses, then she's going to be a target in his eyes moving forward. So, in a way, she's _even more_ in danger than she was back in FFVII... That, or Sephy is just plain gonna have to come up with a better plan than "rock falls, everyone dies"...
