ultimate is measurably faster. every character moves faster and has a consistent 3 frame jumpsquat, aerial landing lag is cut down massively, heavy knockback sends you away quickly before coming to a sudden stop, and shields/rolling are made weaker in order to encourage more aggressive play and skillful movement to avoid attacks.

@@SuperBroAlex Not gonna lie, after playing a shit ton of Smash 4 and Ultimate, I'd say Sm4sh was more fun from a competitive standpoint (pre-bayo at least). I feel like Ultimate limits you too much when compared to 4 (no perfect pivot, no footstool combos, doubles were ruined by particle effects and most important of all, Falcon doesn't work like he used to). I don't know, I feel like the top tiers were more fun in 4 when compared to Snake, braindead Palu and cheap-ass Joker... It sucks because I appreciated the mechanic changes when they were announced, but parries suck, buffer sucks, crossup protection sucks... Idk maybe my expectations were too high but I don't see Ultimate being played for very long for those reasons

Glitchy Glitchy Zero actually explained this in a video later. This was the game that he lost his massive win streak. He was actually gaining so much stress maintaining the streak that he was super relieved when he lost it, and that he appropriately lost it to the 2nd best smash player in the world at the time instead of some rando.

While Smash 4 may seem jank now, I will say I had the greatest time playing Smash 4, both 3DS and Wii U. I'll never forget how much of a great time Smash 4 gave me in the past few years. Be it near the end of high school, be it when I started college, if it wasn't for Smash 4, these past few years wouldn't have been as enjoyable. I'll forever miss all the hype I had for this game before it came out! Seeing characters like Mega Man, Pac-Man, Shulk, Little Mac, and even Cloud Strife in Smash was just so awesome! And 8-player Smash blew my darn mind as well! But this game felt much more special than that. Not only was it a game I felt I could enjoy anywhere at any time and always feel up to playing, I met some new friends and improved my skills by a ton. I used to be terrible at Smash, especially in both Melee and Brawl, but it was because of Smash 4 that I improved a lot and I actually had mains. I actually won 1st place in a Smash Wii U tournament at a Comic Con I went to back in November 2016! And 2 months ago, I had my last Smash tournament and placed 6th, so I basically retired on a good note. A little off topic, but I'm really going to miss Smash Run. I remember my bus rides to and from school being so fun because of playing Smash Run. And going to gaming meetups and tournaments was an even bigger highlight because we all wanted to play Smash Bros! But now that Ultimate is out, I know for a fact I'm going to have even bigger highlights. I'm taking my mains (Mario and Ness) with me, along with my pocket characters. Also, I'm very eager to learn how to play the Inklings, Simon and Richter, and bring back an old Melee main of mine, Young Link! Farewell, Smash 4. Thank you for everything. Here's to Ultimate, and to a new beginning, no, a new age of Smash.
