I mained dragoon for a few years, Estinien and I go all the way back to 1.0, and I was rarely the dead guy, yet when I did die, even if I was the last one down in a wipe, someone would say it. Dragoon is an artform and people tend to forget that. Which is why so many end up on the floor. Most of them are playing it because they're new and it's the iconic class, but end up becoming Dark Knights because of people like you.

I think it's important to emphasize the desire to save Estinien. After losing Haurchefant and Ysayle, and after especially what you discovered with Minfilia in the Antitower, Alphinaud became resolved that he would save Estinien, and the WoL supports him. It isn't just a battle to end the cycle of vengeance, it's a vow to stop yet another of your companions from being lost to the Dragonsong War. Matoya chided Alphinaud for his naiveté at the time, but he still allows himself a bit of idealism here and won't give up on his friend.

To me, Haurchefant and Ysayle showing up to help us pull the eyes out always felt like they were there to say 'You already lost so much, so many people died in and for this war. We don't want for you to have to mourn another comrades loss.' and this is what brings me to tears every time. Truly a beautiful story.

That's actually a great way to put it. The amount of loss leading up to this fight is tremendous and could be called a pyrryic victory.

I've always believed that the FFXIV journey is twofold. First it's the journey of the characters through Eorzea and all their triumphs and defeats, that's the external story. Then there is the internal journey of the player, who, through excellent story telling, visuals and epic music, is forced to confront the same moral and emotional dilemmas of the characters, is forced to hear, feel and think.

oh how true this is. the story of XIV, and how it pertains to my character Nayai, is my favorite piece of media ever. but the way this game and story has effected and moved me through IRL issues and situations, is a whole other beast entirely. such an amazing experience!

It's interesting to put it that way because you certainly have the outside chaos and trauma but the internal trauma is just as rough! I mean the dark knight quests proved that to me for sure

In the incoming expansions, X.0 MSQ showed half of the stories, where post-expansion MSQ played later halves. So, spoilers, spoilers. If you feel the story is not set right at some point, there is lots to be revealed later. And, always emotional damage.

Yep...definitely can't blame Nidhogg for being mad. We certainly had to deal with him since he was causing so many issues, but I love a villain that I can sympathize with.

3.0 ending was really good, felt really big. 3.3 just set a new bar though and felt bigger than 3.0, AND paid off all the loose threads hanging from 3.0. It took, to me, what was a great game into one of the best of all timers.

I do think of myself as a hero. Regardless of what Nidhogg went through, he is in the wrong. Not only do the people he tries to punish have nothing to do with what happened.. But revenge cycles are wrong in the first place. Unaliving people is wrong. Also he's just a shade who should not exist.

This moment has been beaten for me by other later in the story, but it kept a place in my heart. The cutscene has we get on the bridge is amazing, the moment the song starts playing as the eyes is given to us, the whole fight and that climax with the intense emotions. Heavensward was peak story telling and I am still amazed it got beaten by later patches.

For a perspective of how long this war has been waging. It started in the years ~570-580s of Sixth Astral Era. There were almost no hyur on the land of Eorzea. There was no Gridania. Even Gelmorra was yet to be founded. There was no Belah'dia, Ul'dah and Sil'dih weren't even in the project. There was no Limsa Lominsa - Vylbrand's coast wouldn't be settled by Roegadyn for another ~150-200 years. Garlemald wouldn't be a republic for another 350 years. When we talk about Thousand Year War - start of it was closer to the war of the Magi and fall of Amdapor, Mhach and Nym than it was to current day events. Dragonsong war is ANCIENT. We are talking of times between Middle Ages and modern day. Sins of the Fathers don't cover how long it was. Even for Viera who live over hundred and fifty years or so, this war happened several generations ago. It's jus mind-boggling how long ago that war has happened. When you stop and think about it - then it feels like yes, Dragons are truly eternal if for them this long is nothing! I am not going to say anything about history of the dragons since it's a good long time until we will see it and be able to talk about it. But wow. Also, what's interesting - Encyclopaedia Eorzea volume 1 (that covers basic lore up to Heavensward - Volume 2 covers lore about regions seen in Stormblood and Volume 3 covers Shadowbringers and Endwalker) show 7 dragons of the First Brood on a single art - and it's interesting that all 7 have different and distinct look on the artwork even though we never see Ratatoskr in game.

I had no problem with fighting Niddhog. Sure he might have been hurt by the death of his sister, but so has Hreaswelgar, who also lost his sister and he didn't go on a killing spree. There's also the issue that over the last 1000 years, Niddhog and his brood must have killed tens of thousands of people and Niddhog is the direct reason why hundres, or even thousands of dragons were killed in the war, many of whom were born after the betrayal and only went to war, because he commanded it. No matter how much the death of his sister might have hurt, that is out of all proportions, on top of the people who wronged him being dead so long, not even their bones remain, unless they were preserved in some way. And to put the final cherry on top, he ripped of his own brother's wing and was ready to kill him, just so he could continue to slaughter Elezen. So no, I am prefectly fine with putting this insane creature down, for both the Ishgardians and the Dragons. I feel sympathy for all the Dragons I had to kill, who only followed their brood-father's orders (and the Humans who sided with the Dragons, of which we also killed a fair number), but not for him. He is well past redemtion and sympathy.

I genuinely feel like the 3.x patches are tied with 5.0 for the best storytelling in the game. King Thordan's actions started everything, and it's genuinely regretful that it has to come down to Nidhogg or all of Ishgard. It hits me so hard that I've made Nidhogg's song one of the ones that my WoL sings as a bard for the Army's Paean ability. (One thing I've always loved about the musical storytelling of Heavensward is that Nidhogg's song of revenge is *everywhere*, it's even woven through the main Ishgard day and night themes.)

The motivation of Estinien and Nidhogg are the similar and rooted in loss, and it is a "STOCK HERO MOTIVATION". The difference is how they approach it and how far they are willing to go for it.

Point of order: Nidhogg does not want to destroy Ishgard. He specifically does not, because that would mean an end to the Ishgardians' suffering. Nidhogg wants *ETERNAL* war, *ETERNAL* death and suffering.

I will always hold the opinion that Ysayle's death was bad writing. her just floating there out of breath to get blown up made no sense. if the writers wanted her to die there they should have had her fly in front of Cid's ship so that she died protecting us. instead they just had her sit there. so I will always say Ysayle's death was meaningless, and that they thought of the scene where the eyes get pulled first and then just killed Ysayle off without thinking about how or why she died other than for that scene. I never liked ysayle, but when I got to her death scene I remember being very confused and thinking "why did she just let herself die? well alright, I guess she's dead now."

4:25 Hey, I think you're allowed to use FFXIV music in your videos. I don't remember the specifics so you should probably look into it yourself and not just take my word for it, but I believe if you include the FFXIV or Square Enix logo in the video, or show ffxiv gameplay with the music ,you can use their music without getting hit with a copyright strike. They probably have the exact policy on that tucked away somewhere on their websites or in the EULA. Always CYA (Cover Your A$$), but the music is too good to pass up the opportunity to play it in its entirety, in my humble opinion.
