12:19 *Gary Bender:* "Welcome to Honshu, Japan. A beautiful autumn evening, as the leaves have started to change, and welcome to historic Mount Fuji. One of the great settings of all of MMA as tonight, Layla makes her first ever appearance in this remarkable volcano, the only Dragoon Might fighter to never fight here in regular season. It's Layla and Kodama on TNT."

Checking this video takes me back to the 90's arcades golden age in were if you found a place with arcades you never knew what kind of game would be there sometimes a total unknown one like in this case. First time I see this, sure if I encountered this back then I would play it or watch other people playing until my turn comes.

I only just recently discovered this channel and I'm already in love with it the mid to late 90s really was the golden age of fighting games, a magical time where you just had to be there (if I can serve up a plate cliche nachos) it's rather fascinating just how many of these games I learned about after the fact thanks to the internet, since so many of them never left Japan and of the ones that did, unless they were super mainstream, never reached my neck of the woods. As somebody who has already gotten to experience many of these games later in their life thanks to the internet and emulation, I can't help but love a channel that exposes many of these legitimate hidden gems to a wider audience that hasn't already discovered them. I'm definitely going to keep up with this channel.

I miss the fighting game craze.
@carlosaugusto98213 жыл бұрын
@Daniel G That is not the most important aspect, but the fact companies really wanted to make the games. It was a time of unlimited exploration and haste to innovate everywhere. And everybody wanted to make fgs, like even Konami in this case. That helped the evolution of the genre.

I'm convinced that time travelers exist and made this game. Because its too good for anybody to have never heard of it.
@carlosaugusto98213 жыл бұрын
It's just that you and your buddies were all into Capcom and maybe MK. So there was no attention to anything else.
@shadowviruz3 жыл бұрын
@@carlosaugusto9821 eh I followed fighting games pretty hard in the 90s but i never saw this title in any mags or arcades back then.
@michellelincoln99873 жыл бұрын
@@carlosaugusto9821 that's such an insulting strawman. As somebody who was heavy into not only Capcom but fighting games in general, I can attest that where I lived you never saw an AES out in the wild, the best you got for SNK were the dumbed down Takara ports for Super and Sega and anything that wasn't mainstream never even reached my neck of the woods. That includes the likes of Cyberbots and Star Gladiator. So much for "everybody was all into Capcom so there was no attention for anything else." Try harder 😒
@Raytheman5813 жыл бұрын
@@michellelincoln9987 Its a strawman, but its not far off the mark. People were just mainly into capcom, snk and midway games and sometimes ignored the other arcade games. If the games weren't making money they got removed from malls etc.

Thanks for the vid; had never heard of this game before. The background interactivity being done this early is pretty interesting, seeing as the NRS games made that much more important.
@topherowlish3 жыл бұрын
I guess you didn't play any Neo Geo games that used the background (and foreground!) in their early fighting games?
@americanmeowth33363 жыл бұрын
@@topherowlish I was thinking more of the mobility/positioning interactivity of the "hang points". Especially in the Fatal Fury series, I liked the two-plane idea, although the invincibility when moving between the planes seemed a little cheap. Same thing with the ring-outs in some of the later entries.

Or Racheal from Martial Champion, for that matter. If you think about it, Racheal's got thick thighs like Chunny and is a half-naked ninja like Mai, and is also a hot gringa like Layla. Konami hit three birds with one stone right there, and nobody ever remembers.
