I was going to say, you would think the anabatics would be knocking off some thermals with all that sun beating down on bare rock, but guess just not enough! My bucket list keeps expanding, what a lovely place to fly. Best wishes for your upcoming adventures!

That was my thought, yes. It was my last flight there so I really tried to make the best out of it. I think it just wasn't supposed to happen. Fun fact for you: Just 1 week after leaving Zermatt, the weather was so good, that paragliding pilots managed to fly over the Matterhorn. That tall, iconic mountain in the background. Altitude: 4478 m. (14690 ft.) The entire week that I spent in Zermatt, almost no thermals at all 😅. Ain't that a b**ch? Thank you so much for the nice wishes. I had to laugh a little at your comments about how rocky the launch was. Where I fly that would be a pretty darn good launch no cacti, shrubs, or brambles. I hope to fly there some day though, looks incredible!

Yeah, you are right. I can say that I was pretty much spoiled in terms of take off sites. In Switzerland I had plenty possibilities to launch, but later in France and Spain, the terrain changed. Ouch, I hate the cacti and those thick scrubs... I feel you 😄. The mountains here are gorgeous. I am posting weekly videos from my cycling trip through Europe. I coudn't believe at first that you chose this spot, while there where so many better options all around you. Atleast you learned, maybe via the unnecessary hard way, but you learned sth there and the most important part, you didn't give up! We all have been there (and hopefully never again), fighting with our entangled lines and the rocks in the summer heat... :) If you ever have a takeoff site without better options, then there is a nice technique of laying out the glider that prevents almost all lines from laying on the ground: strong arch with the trailing edge touching itself and with the wingtips almost at your feet. Try it out. wish you nice and safe flights and better thermals next time.

Hey Tom! Yeah, I know I could have chosen a much better spot to take off 😅. The reason why I chose that place full of rocks was because the elevation of that little hill was perfect and the wind direction was optimal. In the video it looks like I had many other options, which is true, but I remember that at the time I really didn't want to change my initial position mostly because of the wind direction. I wanted to do it all right, but I ended up making it harder for myself 😄. Your technique sounds very helpful and I am going to use it for sure next time I am in such a spot. Why did you prefer to fly with mescal 5? Isnt heavy to carry for hike and fly?

@@cihanemre1 I guess it was heavy, but this is the only paraglider I have 😅. On my back were something around 12-14 kg. Water, some snacks, filming gear plus the paraglider. It was ok though... I got strong during my hike and fly trips 😉
