This is a very video that answers a very specific question..... exactly the question I had! Thank you. My property is smaller than yours, but wet and this approach makes sense.

A good, informative video. At home in Kerry, we've done a bit of land drainage but we would always put 'sharp sand' (drainage sand) along the base of the trench - BEFORE putting in the pipe work. Then, apply the layer of cover stone. Why was the pipe simply placed straight along the base of the freshly excavated trench ? Especially in ground with high clay content, lads normally recommend some layer of bedding before-hand.

Very surprised to see such a mud layer in Meath. The big factor here is whether the issue is surface water or rising water from springs. This should have been mentioned. And I agree with others, a base layer of chippings should go in first beneath the piping. And to be completely efficient I'd cover the stone with perforated membrane. You don't want the stone clogging up over time

Good job but id of filled the stone nearer to the top, especial above the blue clay, we fill all our shores to the very top as we found it a much better job ere in cavan

I'm not informed about such projects. What are the pros and cons of just digging a drainage ditch?

You have more land to plant like this. Plus without the water in the ground you get less run off. Your fertilizer stays where you put it and it doesn't go in the streams

Here in Midwestern USA we don't use any stone on the top or bottom.

Nelson Ag Without stone, how long does it work for?
@nelsonag35909 жыл бұрын
neogovernment If its done right it will last 100+ years. By done right I mean with consistent grade and knowing when to use filter sock/fine slotted tile. We dig a lot of test holes to check what type of ground we're dealing with.

I guess an excavator is needed at the start and finish of each line?
