you spread a permanent net across the bottom of the hatchery so when youre ready to transfer fish you can just lift it up and theoretically not half to drain the hatchery fully

Netting - Putting a netting tautly over the pond will keep birds out. You won't have to leave it on forever, but it may take a while for herons to get the message! Trees - Plant some trees and put some bushes on the side of the pond that faces open space. Heron need a minimum of about 6 feet to land in. will keep heron out

Dang, I wish I could have been there to help you guys with the sein net. I've been seining since I was 7 years old. We could have taken all of the fish out of the pond in just a few sweeps of the sein net, without all of the scooping! If you do it right, you can pick up the net at the end of the sweep and you will be holding a net full of fish! But it was still an entertaining video as usual, and the PERFECT finish to the weekend! The new pond is looking great! 🙂🐟🐟

Yep things they did wrong. 1 net wasn't long enough.(it should have been at least half again at least. it should form a U shape. 2 they weren't angling the poles forward.(helps keep the net on the bottom) 3 didn't pull the net all the way the the end. 3 stopped while pulling net. (stopping allows fish time to find a way out or around once you start try to keep moving.) Good video just wished I could be there to offer so help with something I have done for a lone time .

After watching bamabass latest video, I saw a few good things that helped him now during the spawning stages. He put in a ton of soft fine gravel almost like sand which all sorts of fish are using. Add some pebbles in different spots besides the boat ramp. Bama bass also benefited greatly from man made plant structures in 3-5 feet of water. Love your videos! Check out bama bass for some things that have been working for him 🤜🏻🤛🏻

Build a floating dock/platform for your feeder and put it out when it’s not full of water attach an anchor and chain to it as the water rises so does the dock with the feeder. It gives you a good spot to all ways know there will be fish under the feeder dock.

We went to our local Christmas tree farm and loaded a couple of trailers worth of various dead evergreen, tied cement blocks to them, only had a canoe at the time so we loaded the canoe and sunk the trees in the deepest part of the pond. We were in minnow heaven in no time. We also dumped a load of pea gravel at one of the shallower parts of the pond… made a great nest area blue gill used it until the bass moved in and the bass loved it where it was a bit deeper in. Enjoyed watching your video… bringing back some great memories of what my family called my giant aquarium on our property. 👍🏻 I never introduced them but we ended up with some of the best eating catfish I have ever had… that meat was so clean and tender. I reckon the herons or wild duck brought in the catfish.

Hey flair here’s a top for eating big catfish! If you soak them in butter milk overnight and or bleed them out right after catching them it really helps! I used to live in Texas and we’d do that with EVERY big cat we caught!!!

I keep a 55 gallon drum full of water. Throw them in the drum and Let them live in some clean water for a couple of days and boom. Farm raised catfish flavor. Don’t want them then? Freeze them before cleaning. An alive catfish can be frozen for months and if you thaw it out in water it will come back to life just like a crab.

@@fomomofo6917 not a bad idea, I was always cooking them like flair, just fresh right after catching them (if I caught em during the day) or the next evening (I’d I caught em at night). When I built a pond, I scooped up mud from other ponds and dumped some in my big pond to introduce many micro-organisms and bugs into my pond. I let it sit for a year and allowed those micro-organism populations to build. I then introduced minnows and let it sit for another year. The next year I introduced panfish like bluegill and long-ears. Then I finally introduced crappie and bass. Just a handful of each at first, but breeding size. It took several years, but I finally got a pond put together that had a balanced biome. A healthy population of big bass and not too many small bass, a healthy population of breeding size bluegill, and plenty for the baitfish to eat as well. I did it all via fishing in my local creek and introducing the species one at a time. It's amazing what a couple of spawns can do for the populations.

Flair you shouldn’t have drained the Hatchery Pond you really need to buy a good big filter system for the Hatchery Pond instead of that homemade sand filter system which isn’t working good at all. You really should get a couple big Stocking Trucks that’s full with a variety of different Fish to come stock the Big Pond so the Fish will be growing while it’s filling up with water so the Fish will be a decent size when the Big Pond gets filled to full capacity of water. You really need to put in some Catfish,Grass Carp and Weather Loach in the Big Pond to help keep it clean so it doesn’t get nasty and really dirty. You really should go on The Pond Guy and order up a large variety of artificial structure really quick to put in the Big Pond for the Fish.

You don't remember stocking the bluegill? I thought you threw them in there when your big pond was leaking. You threw a bunch in there. They weren't big, but those things can sometimes grow rather fast. There isn't any other way they could have gotten in there. Bluegill can sometimes appear in a pond without stocking if they hitch a ride as eggs on the feet of birds, but those would all be small still. So it would have to be the ones you rescued from the leaking pond.
