What it is; is that guys like Drake and Kanye seem to adopt a feminine pitch to their voices when speaking with white interviewers. This feminine pitch is then accompanied by a broader vocabulary and exclusion of their slang style of speech. It is obvious that they are speaking more articulately. And this is not what makes them sound gay. it is, however the feminine pitch in which they use to deliver their words. It is obvious to me that when they do this, they are 'scaling back'; as to come across non-threatening; the opposite of what one expects when speaking with a rapper. Also, guys like Drake and Kanye have naturally deep voices. So when they all of a sudden turn into docile sopranos it just doesn't seem right.
@ethanflores743

VMacTheDon Not true. It's how you present yourself. You can command mad respect, and be educated in the rap game. Jay-Z, Tupac, Nas, Kendrick. Top dawgs in the game, clearly educated, yet hood. Originality.
@ethanflores743
@ethanflores743 10 жыл бұрын
Ethan Flores Drake expresses the soft side of the game, dealing with bitches, drinking, and partying. Most of it superficial, unlike Jay, who had madd substance.
@VMacTheDon
@VMacTheDon 10 жыл бұрын
Champ1988 This is Drake's natural voice. Remember he is half white and grew up with his mother mainly who is white. He adopted slang and a 'thuggish' way of talking only when he started rapping to gain the respect of the rap community, which clearly didn't work. But when he shows the real him it doesn't work either, so its a lose lose situation either way. Macklemore is also considered as gay. But MGK and Yelawolf are not cuz they speak slang and are thuggish. Kanye I can understand what you're saying because he only changed his voice for that Kardashian interview (not sure of any other white interviews where he did), which was weird. But still you shouldn't have to talk like a thug to be respected as a rapper, your content as skills are what should matter. And talking about your life, even if it doesn't involve selling drugs, is as real as it gets

Plague Doc I can tell you're white. Look at all those blanket statements. You're the perfect example of the suburban, idiotic, and uncultured mass that listens to mainstream music with absolutely no taste in art whatsoever. Keep telling yourself that, Aubrey isn't even top 20 rappers all time alive, dead even not top 30. But I'm sure you think net worth = quality, so yeah he's so great and educated with the best music. Don't reproduce, for our sake.

Drake cracked the code that is "modern rap". Clearly it does not take a hood, ghetto, black, fat, skinny, or overly talented person that comes rare. Rap is singing into a microphone, in time, over creative beats (aka computer programming done through a mouse and keyboard). Good job drake.

Its amazing how he's came up now. People always try to set Drake down for trying to be hard or trying to "be about that life". Really, all he does is tell his story or tell about what's going on around him with people. He's one of the few rappers that actually looks around him and keeps himself poised at his craft while staying humble.. even if that's rap. I'm sorry, but listening to all of his stuff.. Favorite rapper of this generation.

Wow. First of all, I wish that interviewer was like THE interviewer for everything. What great questions and follow up questions. I know that's a weird thing to point out but I've watched so many mindless interviews that are so boring and pointless. This guy nailed it. But also, Drake is pretty cool. Seriously. I know he gets crap for pretty much everything, and I'm not his lawyer here to defend him or start a debate. I'm just saying, I love this guy. I like that he's honest. And sometimes, being honest can get contradictory. When you really let yourself feel, sometimes you feel two totally opposite things. Or at least I do. And it doesn't make sense. But that's just how humans are. I just like listening to his voice. I don't know what it is but he's just really chill to listen to. I'm not like a huge fan of his music in the sense that it doesn't usually relate much to me and some of it is not my style at all. But I like him so much that I listen anyway. It's weird, I know. Also it's really hard not to call him Jimmy sometimes cause I freakin loved Degrassi. Okay. done with my book comment now.

Being too emotional has been Drake's number one Criticism from day one. Specifically from the fans and media. Why wouldn't he want to clear that up when it's brought up in a sit down interview?

What's interesting about this interview is that Drake didn't realize that he admits being outcasted by the students at the Jewish school he attended as a teen due to his Black/Jewish biracial ethnicity. Outcasted & rejected could be the main factor for his emotional sensitivity, loneliness, & self-esteem.

Eminem was pretty emotional too, just behind all the crap he was saying to replace the actual words he felt, some people just couldnt understand him. Drake is, so is Kendrick, but theyre emotional in different ways. Look at kendrick being all ganged up on after the control verse for no damn reason,his verse is his verse,sean was in the song and he still said something about him,did he get mad?NO.

For me Drake is a full package rapper, his music's sensitivity, the innovations he made in the rap music became his own trademark in the industry, that's what separates him from the other rappers in history or at present; every rapper has his own way of delivering his rap and style and one of the reasons why a lot of people like him because of the fact that he has his own style of delivering his rap, and when you're different or unique more and more people would notice your uniqueness specially when it involves massive passion and creativity. The latter plays an important role in all music genres.

Man... "Not stepping out of his character."... Drake has to know that this means a lot not only to himself, but all of his fans. Drake is such an inspiring guy. I have been wanting to get into the so-called "rap game". And just staying true to himself is really something that should be respected, whether you hate his music, or not. I honestly do respect him and love his music.
