Premium rig, it's hard to believe that it first came out about 25 years ago. I'd like one, lotsa pennies. Drake made superb tube rigs before the TR7. I have a TR4. My TR3 smoked and made that snap, crackle pop, now a parts rig for the TR4. Don

Drake r8 is the closest performance against tube radios receivers. The noise floor is lowest than all transistor radios like, Icom, Yaesu, Elecraft etc... It sounds like Hammarlund or National radios. I love do hear this radio.

I have one that I need to fire up. Last time I checked there was some sort of digital noise happening when I spun the rotary dial or used the buttons to go up/down frequency. Anyone else have that problem? Otherwise it's in tip top condition and working well. I just need to string up a decent long wire general purpose 'all band' SWR antenna.

I just bought a Drake R8a. I am not receiving anything on USB except for WWV. It must be my antenna. I have a 150' antenna wire 20 feet in the air down to 6 feet. What antenna should I be using to receive anything. My am is great. What are you using? Thanks, Tom

you need just to buy new G5RV antenna , it will perfectly work with yours Drake R 8 A receiver .

What is the difference between Drake R8A and R8B?

I bought an R8A right from the manufacturer with the VHF board in it years back. Now it has a scratchy volume control. How would a guy fix that problem. Any video I could watch and learn how to do it?
@patrickwall85175 жыл бұрын
It probably just needs to be cleaned. Go to an electronics store and get some contact cleaner and spray on the shaft.

Have the electrolytic caps been replaced? About how long (years) before they degrade to the point of malfunction? I have an 8A that works great with the original caps...
@d-labelectronics9 жыл бұрын
+sonnyd53 Hello, Nope, all original. I sold it to a fellow in WA.
@patrickwall85175 жыл бұрын
That was true of the old paper capacitors. Newer radios like the R8A have ceramic capacitors which don't break down and leak like paper ones.
@RadioRich1007 ай бұрын
@@patrickwall8517 Wrong. They are aluminum electrolytic caps and will fail and leak over time . There is 114 of them in the "A" model. Yes replace them. The caps that are not electrolytic dont have to be replaced

@RadioRich1007 ай бұрын
SDRs are glitchy junk. That Drake is far better, more stable, better audio, better filters, doesnt lockup and doesnt need a computer. A true SWLer doesnt use a little black box.
