I’d venture to say most, if not all of these kids, have 3.5+ GPAs.👊. Milers and longer distance runners typically do.😊

Correct in my experience. The discipline required to train and compete in these events transfers to discipline and success in academics

Distance runners are usually like that. Kid on my team is in 6 AP’s as a junior and has a 5.0 and he runs a 4:31 and 9:50

And the first ever 4 minute miler, Roger Bannister, was a neurologist and Master of Pembroke College, Oxford.

Noticed that too. Jim Ryun used to run way out there as well, but I notice Jakob Ingebrigtsen stays pretty close to the curb.

My best guess is that it's a strategic move. Probably to let another runner take the lead to do more of the the pacing work.

It gives you more momentum if you run on the outside on straights and on the inside on the turns
@Jumbosock

I always thought it had to do with lane 1 losing its loftiness. Maybe the runners learn to run a bit outside on the straightaways to run on the springier part of the track for more bounce.

As fast as Simeon Birnbaum is, I’m surprised he doesn’t have better form. That crossing over arm action is a bit excessive. He’s having to work extra hard with his lower back to keep hips in line.
@jonnyrg7489
@jonnyrg7489 Жыл бұрын
Don’t think it’s as inefficient as it looks. Seems like guys with extremely long strides run crossing their arms since they need to swing their arms longer to keep in rhythm with their legs. Look at yared nuguse when he set the American records and he runs very similar to this and he’s about efficient as you can get

His form and overall person reminds me a lot of cooper teare

@@jonnyrg7489 that would make since if his arms were much shorter in ratio compared to his legs… I don’t think that’s the case tho. Many tall runners with long strides don’t swing and crossover like that.

Remember, Jim Ryun did not have the best running form.

Kansas has been good for decades in the high school track. Do you recall Jim Ryan ran a 3:55 in the mile from Kansas in the 1960’s?

@@benchavis1624 nah I’m talking about in the past couple years. When I was in high school a couple years back anything under 4:30 made you a contender for the state title and now there’s kids running under 4:10.
