You’re analysis actually makes sense here. The game despite its funny moments makes it apparent that there’s no happy ending. When you said that it didn't resolve happily you are correct. Drakengard and NieR delve deep into the genre of tragedies. Taking a huge inspiration from Nietzsche's Nihilism and Shakpeare. Every game ends with a tragedy and that's why they're my favorite. Your expectations are subverted because we're used to always winning with victory and a happy resolution to our story. Not NieR, Not Drakengard. You seriously need to play them because the devs themselves describe their games as a type of art that can only be experienced by playing games. You're immersed emotionally, enamored by the visuals, the ethereal music and you experience this world in ways that you couldn't in real life. The culmination of all these different types of art creates something unspeakable and esoteric. You can't describe it to others, they have experience this themselves.

Sharing this to give you an idea of why this song its supposed to give that sense of dread and hope it helps: The Black Flower is the voice which abides in this broken eye Where its remained since its creation awaiting its purpose When dizziness is confined, time goes by. So strong and pure, are these white claws. Looked through, always For I too shall disappear someday. This wandering soul that cries and howls, even now Sleep, I shall give thee death These low-lifes who went along with the sacrifice shall be cursed. A harmless song of ruin which creates a monster that harms itself and others. The Black Flower is the voice I hear always in bloodied prayers The Black Flower is the song that shall ring out the day of repentance in which all shall disappear...

I actually love that there’s a video for this song, because each phase of the boss battle corresponds to the intoner shown on the screen. Yes. This is a six phase rhythm boss battle with different tempos and difficulties. It took me three or four hours to beat on my playthrough because if you miss even one note of this 7-and-a-half minute song you will fail and have to start all over again. The most amazing thing about this is the bossfight. The bossfight IS the song. The final boss is a rhythm game. I'm terrible at rhythm games so I never beat it, especially when there's a final notes at the end that you have to kinda guess with no visuals helping you. It's an amazing song, though. I didn't mind hearing it the multiple times I retried. Each of the female characters shown in the video sing a part of the song, and the video starts showing them at each of their respective parts. Song is a huge part of Drakengard 3. You can see the actual boss at 6:30 of this video, where all the sisters are represented and they all "sing" the final part of the song.

Drakengard/Nier games are very good at bringing out emotions, many (most?) of which are NOT positive ones. Without going into details, the ending of this game is much more bitter and tragic than sweet. D3 is a prequel to the original Drakengard, and this game sets up a lot of bad juju for the future of the series.

And if you want negative energy tracks, no game exemplifies that concept more for me than the origjnal Drakengard.

For the quickest rundown of the relation between Drakengard and Nier: NieR is a spinoff to one of the endings of Drakengard, but thousands and thousands of years later. There are a few recurring themes, such as glowing red eyes indicating a desire to eliminate humanity, and the angelic alphabet which adorns every spell circle and every glowy effect. Drakengard 3 is a prequel to Drakengard 1, sometimes called Drakengard zero (main character is also called Zero, the one with the flower in her eye). Drakengard 2 barely involved Yoko Taro and is often ignored in the overarching franchise. But yeah, this song is the final song, when Zero's dragon is tasked with killing her, because that white flower in her eye is pure evil. When Zero dies, the flower grows her a new body, just so she can suffer more. Part of the song noted the "Kuroi Hana" when you realized there was some Japanese in there, meaning black flower in Japanese. Roughly translated, the phrase is "Black flower of the darkest white". Zero had to kill her sisters, and then have her only friend kill her, just to stop that flower in her eye.

And to be more obnoxious Michael doesn't even kill it he just seals it away in to one of the disaster branches of the "world" where tragedy of Flower blooming already happened dooming Zero to suffer for eternity.

The point where it switches from Drakengard to Nier is the early 2000s, where the first cutscene of Replicant is. Replicant jumps forward ~1000 years after that cutscene, and Automata jumps forward ~8000 years from Replicant’s ending.

This song is comprised of the leitmotifs of the five antagonists as well as the protagonist, who all have sound/music based abilities. Each character is named after the numbers zero ( protagonist) through five ( antagonists ) ...so if you search for, say, "Drakengard Two's Song" you'll hear the individual leitmotif. The story of the game is basically the protagonist and her childlike dragon companion trying to kill all of the antagonists as well as herself to save the world. While this song plays you act as the dragon matching the rhythms of the song as it manifests with that character's leitmotif, saddened because he needs to kill his only friend. The game's director is Yoko Taro, the round guy, The music composer of Nier and Drakengard is named Keiichi Okabe.

I think the detail about this song that gets me the most, in the context of the story, is the ending. Mikhail has to kill his mother figure, Zero, in order stop the existential threat she and the other Intoners pose (to put it as simply as possible). Your goal is to stop the song. And indeed, you succeed, as the ending gets slower and slower, until it finally stops _just before_ the last note of the song's melodic phrase can play.

Amazing reaction, and yeah the song is a kaleidoscope of zero (the main character/white haired girl) and her sisters songs (further explaining this would be heavy spoilers so im not further elaborating) but there is japanese at the begining and end of the song (its zeros theme "the black song or kuroi uta" however the feels you got can be explained by reading zeros novella, which it is not in game and partialy explain why this song is a never quite feel positive... and allmthe sisters songs are in angelic... which also have meaning)... and if you want conclussion about this song... there is actually one on the actual last song from the game... this silence is mine. You are fighting by circling them as the Dragon Mikhael trying not to die as giant naked versions of the goddesses spring from a single flower. That’s what you see in the final image. (It means black flower) And the song on its own tells the story of the cursed/black flower that started the problems that Zero is facing. The Intoners are basically the 7 Sins even when there are only 6 ;) hehehehe But yeah on the end *SPOILERS* the flower gets destroyed by Mikhail sealing the Intoners in another world/dimension. But as Accord said: "i have the feeling that someway somehow Zero will come back" Meaning that someday the seal will break and giving Drakengard 3 a Ending E like they did in the NieR Replicant Remake. Basic timeline is this. Drakengard 3 A Ending Drakengard 1 E Ending NieR RepliCant E Ending Nier Automata Drakengard 2 is a bit of an oddball as it’s an alternate timeline after Drakengard 1’s A Ending. NieR Gestalt is odd too since it’s another timeline where the only difference is the main character’s age and relationship with characters. It’s worth noting though that all endings are canon due to time shenanigans. The story connecting everything is told through Japanese exclusive manga, novels, drama cds and stage plays. Even the canon depiction of these canon endings are in supplemental material.

Drakengard 3 is a twisted and depressing story. My personal, favorite story of all. The Last Song, holds even stronger meaning when you know the context that leads up to it. The Last Song, is a parting song. Melancholy, sadness, pain, and freedom. Freedom from being alive, from guilt. The literal execution of a split soul. While some songs are masterpieces without the context, I believe The Last Song, and the whole DG3 soundtrack is just, timeless, with that context, for whats worth. The Last Song, is just as the title describes it. Putting together the pieces of the bosses that you have fought along the way... hard to dwelve deeper without going as insane as Yoko Taro. But, now to finish that journey, we are just missing This Silence is Mine. Zero earned her silence...

"There are neat edited versions out there where each song will start with the sister's scream before the boss fight starts like in-game and it phases into the music." Those aren't edited. That's actually how the songs are. They're like that even on Spotify.

@@gbtygfvyg Well that's nice to know, most of the older youtube uploads tend to cut those out. And I know I didn't use the long titles for the sisters songs and I probably should have but they get kinda long. Like "Five's Song - Exvulsion - The Rising Fool - Phanuel / Galgaliel"

Weird big feelings... welcome to the world of Yoko Taro games hahaha. Yes, the music is a big part of that puzzle, but it's not the only one. The games just reach into your feels and dig and claw around and leave you with stuff to sort out afterwards.

But I can't imagine his games without Keiichi Okabe's music. The two are perfect pairing.

Honestly, this could be my favourite work from Keiichi Okabe (also giving credit to Kakeru Ishihama and Akitaka Tohyama for co-composing). Call me weird or anything because I know that this song may not appeal to many people, considering that people would usually name Okabe's other works (from the NieR series for example) as their favourites instead. So I understand if it gives you mixed feelings. Oh and for your information, the lyrics are in both Japanese and the "Chaos Language". The lyrics were written by Hana Kikuchi and sung by Emi Evans (known for the Chaos Language). The Japanese part of the song is borrowed from another song in Drakengard 3 titled "Kuroiuta". You can listen to that if you're interested. There are 2 versions of that though; one is sung by Eir Aoi and another is Emi Evans.

This one is actually completely in Japanese, the words for the five sisters are very loosely pronounced to give a similar feeling to chaos language, but it's still Japanese
@LightKeyDarkBlade3 жыл бұрын
@@Phyllion- I don't think so. A large majority of the five sisters' parts doesn't sound Japanese at all. One very obvious place is at 5:20 of this video. That is _not_ Japanese. No official lyrics were also released for this song, while other songs such as Kuroiuta were given. This isn't like songs such as Kuroiuta that have Japanese written lyrics, but they're entirely in katakana so it's difficult to interpret the meaning of the lyrics. This song is different. Only the Kuroiuta portion is in Japanese while the rest is Chaos Language.

Nier is the “””Sequel””” to Drakengard, but yes, you are spot on with this being Chaos Language. Nier actually happens when an event happens that introduces magic into our world that leaves the world in ruin.

Not sure why the order of the video footage goes from the characters 1, 5, 4, 2, 3 when it should be counting down.

After Zero, One's theme, then five, and so on are being sung instead of going backwards like the final boss's models do. Odd choice but it sounds nice

@@ESALTEREGO actually no. None of the endings of Drakengard 3 game connects to Drakengard 1. The canon ending is actually in the Drakengard 3 novel. Drakengard 3 is about alternate timelines before Drakengard 1. Well you could say something from the future came and make troubles or to help?
