Drama In The Sweni 'Mega' Lion Pride - Part Two 'The Retreat'

Part Two: 'The Retreat'.
The Sweni Pride decided to retreat to the 'safety' of the road and the Lala palms on the other side of the Sweni river when they heard, in the distance, the roar of an intruder nomad Male Lion.
They only did this to avoid a confrontation or even a fight with another male which could put the lives of their precious Cubs in danger.
The Sweni Mega Lion Pride currently consist of 5 Lionesses, 3 Huge Males and 9 cute playful Cubs.
We filmed them close to the Sweni Waterhole on the S126, relaxing in the early morning sun, after they had a good meal during the night from a Wildebeest they caught earlier. (Note one of the cubs playing with the Wildebeest tail which he took as a Souvenir)

While relaxing and socializing with the playful cubs, the tranquility is interrupted by the distant roar of an intruding nomad male Lion.
First priority for the pride is to get their precious cubs out of the danger zone.
If there is a fight with an intruder the cubs will be the first to get killed.
So, instinct drove the pride away from the approaching intruder, not because they are scared but only for the safety of the Cubs.

As you know, we can't protect them if we also don't protect all the others, the buffalo, the elephants, the hyenas, the leopards, the giraffes, and others, even the crocodiles, they all have a role to play that is in balance and must be preserved. Even the grass and the trees need to be preserved.

Just Another Beautiful Pride Sighting! I don't think that these big strong formidable warriors are worried or afraid of the intruders and getting your cubs/family to safety is not retreating as if you're running with your tail tucked between your legs, there's a difference, they're doing exactly what they should be doing at the moment.These magnificent looking boys are probably trying to figure out what lions are crazy enough to enter their territory. From the looks of these beauties, I think that they are a force to reckon with as well when it comes to mommas babies. I must say, this is just the most beautiful pride ever, they should be on the cover of Vogue. I'm a bit confused as to why the vehicles are so close to the lions instead of allowing them proper space, especially when threats are in the distance causing tension for the lionesses and cubs. Sometimes humans lack of common sense come up a little short. These impressive boys are smart, move the family out of danger and deal with the intruders tonight. I can't wait for Part 3 and am hoping for the best for this charming pride. This is an awesome and beautiful video coverage.

Love!!! That's a huge beautiful pride and they're all nice and healthy!! The females are very healthy and strong but the males, royal and handsome look very strong and healthy..🥰 I believe this is the largest pride I've seen and there are sooo many cubs too.. I hope they all stay well, cubs can be proud and adventurous at the wrong times... Stay safe King and Queen lions...💖💖 Those cars need to stop rolling up so fast on them though, my opinion.

This beautiful lion family could be on a Poster board. They all are in phenomenal condition. My favorite part was the boys looking as If the were holding traffic for their family. I have no doubt that they were in a retreat simply to remove their cubs from the very small possibility of becoming collateral damage. Like A says I hope whoever this single male lion is he takes care when night falls because I do not have any doubt those 3 big Kings will go looking for him if he starts roaring again. On a positive note, I would like to keep updated on this beautiful Pride and their Kings even on just doing normal day to day life. Thank you 😊

Interesting to see that the Sweni males didn't roar back. Not sure whether it was because they were not afraid or just didn't want to attract attention. They just didn't seem too concerned and I'm sure the intruder can smell them the closer he gets. It also sounded like more than one intruder.

I like in episode #1, the two Lions sit together guarding and getting a full view of the whole family and the third Lion. I also like this video, when they are on the road and the family comes out with the brushes the one dad keeps stopping in front of the vans to make sure the family all gets out on the road safe.

A magnificent pride of lions. What a blessing it must have been to have witnessed such an event. It was a joy to watch (albeit from afar). I wish something could be done about the cars that traverse these parks and reserves. Some get very close - too close in this case!

It would be nice if some of the locals happen to be carrying bags of cement that randomly & accidentally fell out of their car during the night, preferably during a light rain storm. Remove the now empty bag so no animal tries to eat it. Where I live we call em speed bumps 😉

Definitely not 1 intruder male, atleast 2,maybe 3. Was so interesting to see the first male who was closest to the roar go back to get comfort and enforce the bond, he then took up position behind the other 2.Hierarchy right there. Regardless of how many intruders these guys look in tremendous condition and will be in kill mode in the night

It's interesting that you stated that the pride went to the 'safety' of the road. I have read on some of sites dealing with bears that the sows will use the roads for 'safety' also, especially if they have cubs. It seems as though boars do not like the roads and traffic that they bring.

Any other time that intruder would have had a very bad day. All the males of the pride had on there minds was the female that was in heat. U can clearly see them following her sent and grimmising everywhere the lioness stopped for a second. IIf they wernt intoxicated by the lioness, there is no doubt they would have went straight toward the threat to end it right then. They could not get the female off of there mind. They did not look worried one bit about the threat.
