I think the lovey-dovey act feels off for a very simple reason - we saw that scene in their bedroom with them in private, away from Daniel, and their behavior was VERY different. It was more collected, it was more distant. Not nearly this cutesy, not nearly this warm, not nearly this sentimental. The contrast is too stark to ignore. And they were literally discussing how to screw with Daniel during that scene - then they walk in, hand in hand directly after looking like a team. This is a ploy, obviously, but which parts of it and to what end is what we aren't sure of. Also, Assad's subtle acting is excellent, because he shifts his attention to Daniel and has very small but blatant micro-expressions at key moments of their narrative - like he's breaking character to read the room. I think Daniel is also either being deliberately reminded of repressed memories from San Francisco or they're being drudged up by what's happening, and Armand is at the very least well aware that it is happening, if not the cause.

Louis absolutely WRECKING "Danny" (I caught that, you little shit LOL) and then laughing in his face about it. The start of his villain arc tbh.

I want to just say that, while season one was great, season two is shaping up to be phenomenal. I have not been this addicted to a show in a long time, and I say that as someone who religiously watches pretty much every BL that airs.

I feel like Louis and Armand can be truly very loving - like the tender, fond way they discussed of their first meeting felt very real - but then the almost performative lovey dovey hand holding etc in front of Daniel in the present time vs the way we have seen them without Daniel does make it easy to question everything especially Armand does. Can't wait to see how his character will develop in this series, tho I hope he is allowed to be someone who yes indeed plays mindgames etc but also has his own softness. Just like Lestat too. (His letter to Louis also broke me.) All the actors are just giving their everything, it is breathtaking to watch!

I think a perfect example of Louis and Armand overselling their relationship is when they’re describing their first meeting, because wow do they go over the top with it. It’s not just the LOUD romantic music playing in the background or the heavy sentimental and fond tones as they talk about it, it’s that they keep cutting in and interrupting the actual moment with their persistent commentary. The moment isn’t allowed to be shown or speak for itself, and they spend more time insisting on the significance of the meeting instead of the actual moment of meeting, having the effect that it actually makes it seem rather insignificant when looked at on its own. They don’t even let us hear the first words they exchanged in the flashback, they fully remove it and say it in the present. Honestly the present day scenes have me captivated more than ever before. Daniel reached his comedy peak with his (accurate) telenovela bit, and then was so viciously torn down by Louis that even Armand tried to pull him back from it, though if it was out of concern for Daniel or the repressed memories is still obscured. He did soften the blow with his own addition that Alice wanted to say yes, though he does use the segway to steer the interview back to a more controlled process. Gah it’s just so fascinating I can’t wait to get into more of what the deal is there.

Well, Armand said he wanted to break through to the Daniel back in San Francisco (when they were chatting in bed last episode or so). I definitely think there's some buried memories/trauma there at work that Armand is now tapping back into. This is going to get really ugly for poor Daniel. Armand is slow and steady and literally has all the time in the world and he's using those micro-moments to slowly break down Daniel. And Louis is helping/complicit. It's so scary to watch.

"And I never have." Why do I not believe that? Armand is being awfully fishy and Maloy knows it. Or at least sense it.

Casting Ben Daniels as Santiago is genius. He's absolutely killing it with his performance! I am enjoying these episodes but I'm here for Lestat lol. He's my favorite character in literature and I love Sam Reid as Lestat. I know exactly how you feel lol. Loving your reaction to the Louie/Lestat scene!

After watching episode 2 , I realized Lestat and Armand have something in common: they both stalk Louis. Did anyone else notice how Armand's expression changes as the story is being told about how they met? When he embraces Louis's hand, he quickly looks up at Daniel and then immediately looks down at the floor, almost as if he's sad or lying. The Alice attack on Daniel seemed out of character for Louis. Did Armand make him do this ? I was surprised Armand didn’t stop him like he did when he asked about Claudia’s assault.

I do feel your pain. Ok, agony. I feel like there is something about that Bacon Triptych sitting behind Daniel, that is going to be massively important, and soon. But alas, no one is talking about that like I wonder whyyyyyyy with everything else going on ;)

I'm not sure but to be with someone for 77 years, I would like to think there's some love, compassion and understanding. Who would want to put on an act for that long? Immortals can certainly move on.🌸🌸

Or it is gentle (Louis and Armands relantionship is different, Louis is a different person than who is was with Lestat and also by himself) and people should allow Louis to be a full character instead of assuming every action he takes is because of the man he is with.

While I get your point in the books its based off of my understanding is that Louis was pretty much there to be affected by others and then the author decided she didnt like him much and he became a prop? At least this is what Ive been told. Also sadly the fandom being so old means a lot of people are free with spoilers ignoring that while the book and film are old the show is new and people are just discoveirng it. I think the bits people hear and pick up on end up influencing alot. I relaly wish Id been able to avoid all knowlege of the film and books goign into this season as I do believe I would have enjoyed it much more.

If I remember correctly Armand in the books is multi layered for good a very bad the show might soften him a little because Louis and Daniel in this show is completely different but like in season 1 themes of the book will might be adapted

Ben Daniels charmed me through the screen so much, I would be willingly jumping on that stage to die 😅 (Also his husband Ian Gelder (Kevan Lannister from GOT) just died 2 weeks ago 😓)

11:44 so, Ive not read the books but had soem thingsmbrought up by fandom that might color this view so to be safe Im sti king a possible spoiler tag on this. For with this scene, the thing that struck me is the way Armand speaks about Alice, which makes it very much seem to me like he has insider knowledge rather than just a new perspective offered from viewing Daniel's memories. Like, maybe he has looked in Alice's head at some point. Am I crazy or does anyone else get that vibe.

I'm genuinely so confused about how people can believe Lestat and question every detail of Armand it feels like people aren't watching the show to understand perspectives but assert their own like how Daniel did with the Paris conversations.

I'M A LONGTIME HUGE BEN DANIELS FAN TOO! (I fell in love with him in Law and Order: UK, LOL) So excited to see him shining here! And I can't wait for more people to discover his talent! 😍😍 P.S. Also, he's actually a really great stage actor, so it's funny seeing him 'overacting', playing an actor who's maybe not so good. (Kinda like when someone who is a talented singer plays a character who can't sing that well and they almost have to work extra hard to sound bad, because they're usually so good at singing!)

I might be mistaken but from what I remember that style of acting actually would be the expected for that sort of theatre at that time.

13:54 Am I the only one who got genuinely upset at them burning the house? Like, itulset me more than the slaughter. I think it was the little girl who had a house fire wh grew up to lovd history but I was filled with horror thinking o what books, art, clothing, and collectibles might be lost from burning the house of people at that time with that amount of wealth. Especially given all that had been destroyed or ruined during the war. To survive that then be destrpyed cause they are too lazy to cover it up in a different way. 😢 also just dangerous af to set a fire of that size going.

Can I make a suggestion? Have you ever watched Shameless? Beside being a really good series I feel like Gallavich is a ship that should absolutely be in everyone's queer media repertoire, considering its one of the few gay *canon* ships of the 2010s, the two actors have some serious chemistry, and their kiss scenes are honest to god still unrivaled to me even after consuming basically every major queer series of the last decade. I know it would be a big undertaking considering it's very long, and the plot doesn't involve just them (it follows the whole Gallagher family, not just Ian), but I haven't really seen anyone outright dislike it after giving it a chance. If you're fine with a lot of nudity and a lot of depiction of alcohol and drugs I think you're gonna love it. My personal pitch about Gallavich: they feel real in a way I think many "queer stories" are still afraid of making their gay characters, like their gayness makes them inherently good or more empathetic or something. They are a true product of their rough environment before their sexual identity even comes into play. They are a 'rough upbringing made me a delinquent' X 'rough upringing made me a go-getter' ship and I love them both so much 🥺 Edit: also, in the current tv climate of "you're lucky to get two seasons" where else are you gonna get a gay love story *actively in the making* that is not treated as comic relief and that lasts 11 seasons?

I'm getting strong sociopathic vibe from Armond! I feel that he LOVES being in control and that under all the sweet facade he's actually a lot more dangerous than Lestat was!! At least with lestat you knew that he was quick tempered and manipulative. With Armond his manipulation is much more insidious! With Lestat you feel the love between Louis and him, with Armond it reads as obsession not love to me!!

And maybe revenge as well. I don't know about this "being with" Lestat he is referring to...maybe the show is changing it but from the books we know Lestat never was in a relationship with Armand and as Sam said, " wouldn't mind never seeing him but since he's an older vamp and so mixed up with all the vampires, he always pops up". I think he keeps Louis under a spell.so he doesn't go back to Lestat.

Media often focuses on violence and oppression as the way of someone getting a high of feeling important. But for some being needed, being the balm and support is just as addictive and if someone grows dependent enough on that person's support it can create a dynamic ripe for toxicity and/or abuse. The vibe I get from Armand is someone who enjoys not just being in charge but having charges. Him with Louis, him with Lestate, and his coven all involve little hints that he likes for them to need him, that he's there for them rather than them being there for him. Im not sure if that makes any sense? I am trying but its been a long day, I feelrather horrible, and I have no one to talk about the show with so I havent had the chance to try articulating this before.

@@krose6451 There's always someone in the Fandom ready to talk. Hope you are feeling better. Your comments are clear. Sounds like Armand's on some sort of power trip. He claims he was happy Lestat disbanded the coven but he was really enthusiastic about getting a new one. For a while I thought he was keeping Louis hostage, so he wouldn't go back to Lestat. I thought he was affecting his memory. To some degree I still do. I think Armand's knows Lestat is alive in present day but keeping it to himself. I think Louis is starting to realize it as well, I say that because of a statement he made in the last episode, unless it was just an error they didn't cach or thought we the audience might overlook it. But when Louis said " Lestat is all about Lestat, always was and always WILL BE." It's the " will be" that I am intrigued by because that imply someone is alive otherwise you would speak of a person in past tense and say " always WAS". I know Armand has a traumatic past but hey who doesn't, I just don't trust him.
