I love that slow groovy tempo they use here. Also very nice how he sometimes "rinse our ears" by blending in some tasty gypsy/dim-scales or jazz-sounding 9-chords with that overall blues style of his improvisation. (Did I mention that the drummer and bass player are also very tasteful, both of them.)

I'm a musician and I love music in general. I've studied a lot of guitar players, and SRV may be my favorite. I feel terribly sorry for his mother. I'm fairly certainly the man was born with that Strat in his hands. You know, there's a rumor that SRV made a deal with the Devil. No one knows what Stevie got, but the Devil got guitar lessons.

Thank you for letting him play straight through! It's always amazing to me how Stevie takes us on a journey with his playing. I've always been amazed how he could play the riff, then add his improv and blend it right back into the original song is if it was always there. Truly gifted from above!

OMG that was exhausting. Felt like I was back in 1968 that was the dopest most physadelic version I've heard SO far. Stevie definitely went off somewhere for quite awhile n brought it home beautifully. SRV and his shredded guitar were time travelers. UR right, can't pause this stuff just can't find a place, not meant to put on hold, wud just be wrong. Oh, please come back to us Stevie!! 😭☮️

I have never been a blues fan, I always feel like been there done that, we are now over here with all the rock styles that evolved from the blues, but I do greatly appreciate that fact that SRV is playing from his guts and yes he possesses vast technical prowess, but this is not what drives is playing, it is just a tool that he can use when necessary.

Drama, I love my Home Free guys always, but, SRV is my all time favorite. I was able to see him live one time and not long after that, he was killed. To me, he is the most talented guitarist that ever was. He had a way with that guitar that no others have duplicated. He didn't just play, his passion was strong! I Love that you react to him! My heart breaks for the music we lost when we lost him. 😭💔

The great guitarists when I was growing up were the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman & Dickey Betts of the Allman Brothers, Alvin Lee of Ten Years After, Johnny Winter, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, etc... When guys like Eddie Van Halen & Stevie Ray Vaughan came along I was already a young adult in my late 20's or early 30's, but I knew the first time I ever heard him that Stevie Ray was something very different and very special. I had the absolute honor and privilege of having seen Stevie twice live before his tragic death in that helicopter crash in Wisconson so many years ago. I've jammed Jimi and Stevie Ray tunes both for hours at a time more than once over the years and my take is this. Jimi came along at a time when most everything that had ever been done to that point with an electric guitar with rock music, Jimi said "that ain't shit, watch this." But in Stevie's case, he was clearly heavily influenced by Hendrix as well as the blues, and with his having lived on nearly 20 years longer than Jimi, he snatched up Voodoo Chile and Little Wing for Hendrix, made them his own, and said "you left us too soon Jimi, but don't worry I got you covered. I'm gonna take those songs on to an even further rock from the sun than you had a chance to take them yourself." Believe me when I say, that's not a knock in anyway whatsoever at Jimi, but Stevie's the better and cleaner guitarists of the two in my very humble opinion. Sadly, we ended up losing Stevie Ray too soon as well, along with Duane Allman, and in recent years, Alvin Lee and Johnny Winter too.

There have been very few musicians who could actually do anything they wanted on their instruments at these levels. Right now, I can think of three other such musicians: jazz pianist Art Tatum, jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker and jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli.

I saw Joe Cocker open for SRV in Anchorage, Alaska. JC was an amazing entertainer and best open ever. Flyer posted on the door to the arena " you may experience hearing loss for 2 days from this performance". I am a blues person that got hooked in the early 70's.....and after 4 songs, I and my friends had to leave as you could not make out ANYTHING being played/sung by SRV and DT as it was a chest concussion. Eric Clapton stated "I have never heard a louder show; you just had to let the wave overtake you for 5 songs and then it made sense"...we left and 3 weeks later he died.....how many times can you kick yourself...I will never know...still freakin' kicking every time I listen to the master...

I am a huge Jimi fan, been so for 35+ years now. He will always be king/god to me. But sadly was only 3 when he died so never got to "experience" him or his music as it was happening. But SRV burst on to the scene in 82 or 83 and that was when I was in my mid-teens. So, to see this guy come out and do Jimi's music, and he covered many different songs by Hendrix, probably a good 6 at least, it was like the second coming for me. Absolutely does great justice to Jimi's music and he has many songs of his own that have aged like fine wine and I hold them in very high regard along with Jimi's music. I was fortunate enough to see SRV twice before that stupid helicopter crash took him from us. Like Jimi, gone waaayy too soon and we can only wonder at how much more great music was to come. In fact it will be 30 years ago on August 27th that SRV departed and went to meet Jimi in the next one, and I am sure he wasn't too late. There are many great guitarists, and each person have their preferences as the top of their list, but for me, Jimi and SRV are kind of on a different level for me, along with Blackmore. There are many recordings available from Clubs in Texas and other states in the southern US from about 1980 to 1983, before SRV met Bowie at Montreux in 1982 and started his journey to international recognition. I recommend you seek those out, just fantastic pre-fame shows! A number have Jimi tunes, like Come On, Manic Depression, Jam 292, Little Wing/Third Stone medley etc.
