Thank you for the video. I am just learning to play piano parts as a producer (50yrs old). I listen to a lot of cinematic, epic, orchestral, trailer-hybrid-electronic, movie and film score and Celtic music. I've always tried to pick out the piano arpeggios and the spread triads in them. It is difficult sometimes to hear them in the mix. Spread Inversions .. adding Sus notes .. what a concept! It is nice to know that the ' inversions ' and sus notes really do make for nice phrasing. You have made this understandable in a very short time frame. Please continue to make videos like these as they are not only inspirational, but will help producers like me get the exceptional results like this that we do not get from traditional piano methods.

Haters and negative people are set out to sabotage others often without cause. I appreciate what you do here. I love the format. Your knowledge is presented in an intelligent, clear and concise way and is quite helpful.I've learned a tremendous amount about vital and modular in particular from your channel. I'm thankful for that.

Seconded. I fell in love with the genre of future garage, this channel was able to unlock its demanding, technical production mysteries for me. VT wisdom has taken my production to a new level, introducing me to great tools and production approaches I had not considered. Cameron is definitely in my album's liner note thank yous. F*k the haters so it hurts, they are a complete waste of flesh.

Relax man. There is one or two negative comments at most here. As there are with all videos. Not everyone might agree with the info presented here (playing F and G diads against the A minor arpeggio and not saying it), but opinions may vary. All within a framework of respect. So, once again... don't be so hurt and relax.

i can do the basses, i can do the synthesized drums, the grooves, i can mix my tracks to satisfaction, etc etc. but what i really struggle with is composing and music theory. video's like these that are comprehensible by a noob like me are very much appreciated, often music theory vids dive into lingo and get overwhelming quickly for people without some fundamentals, but this explanation and demo is the opposite of that, practical, easy to understand and usefull.

YES! Please make more of these type of videos. I will continue to share and like every one of them. This latest series has really improved my approach and helped me to create bigger sounds with less steps. Making the process much more emotionally evocative and FUN as well. The comedic bits have really lightened the tension of diving into theory. (Theory I have stupidly avoided for too long!). I want to personally thank you for being that voice which encourages expanding knowledge base over buying the new plug-in/sampler pack/etc... That being said, I have really been enjoying your VST's and plan on designing my own one day. I am also very grateful for the plug-ins that you have recommended as well: Phaseplant, Decentsampler, Spitfire LABS, Pianobook, Surge, Helm, VItal, etc... All brilliant discoveries for me and are now permanent additions to my audio arsenal. (Especially since my Pirate days are over and I only work with free and affordable software now.) ALSO those free courses on hook theory have REALLY opened the book for me. I have wasted over a decade questing for the holy grail of VST/AU's, I have bought SO MANY INSTRUMENTS! and watched every stupid TRICK THAT THE PROS DON'T WANT YOU TOO KNOW. (LMAO!) Thanks for being an alternate voice to all that. As it turns out, once you wade through the initiatory muck of learning music theory and synthesis... IT ACTUALLY GETS AMAZINGLY POWERFUL AND FUN! I no longer have writers block and there are infinite paths to create moving and inspirational music! As I now always say: Give a guy a new VST and he can spend the a few weeks learning how to use it, which he probably won't because he's gotta get those other 50 VST/AU's and learn how to use them in concert with one another... However, teach a man synthesis and theory and he can build daily masterpieces using only stock plug-ins and FX. (and he can design his own plug-ins and sell them too!) CHEERS!

Yes, please do more of these cinematic music insight videos. I appreciate getting a very specific tip like this one that is immediately applicable. As a piano player I often do things like this but not knowing quite what I am doing. I have played this voicing in my left hand for instance (without the octave between the bass note and the 6th!) but probably have never simply divided the voicing between the hands as you have. And I have noticed that cinematic music often tends toward a simpler expression, a sort of less is more approach. Thanks.

There are many smart, talented, knowledgeable composers on KZbin, including a few retired music theory professors. But the presentation of information in such a way that appeals even to beginners is a wholly different matter, not just in terms of content. Having the voice of a radio DJ helps a lot. Your content is easy to digest, and easy on the ears. In short, it's an excellent channel in which to invest my time. Thank you.

Thanks Cameron. It's a good format. It's nice to have a video with one main easy to learn (or remember) tip, but then include variations you can do on top of that. Videos that contain too many tips often go in one ear and out of the other, even if you write them down. With just one main tip, you watch it, then go and try it out there and then.

@jeffevansmusic3 жыл бұрын
This explains it well. The idea is to spread the voicings. It's good to aim for a tenth between the bottom note and the middle and another tenth between the middle note and the highest note. (or as close to that as you can) This works very well with legato strings too. Through chord changes as well the bottom note does not have to be the root note either. Keep the distance thing going between all three notes and it will sound good. Through most progressions you can get away with moving all three notes very little.

I shamelessly love voicing chords like this. A lot of times though I feel like I get anxious about how much space there is and then I start trying to color the chord even more by filling it up with stuff. Any advice on adding accent notes within the space of the chord without losing all of the good breathing room? I've learned a crazy amount from your videos, definitely one of my favorites on the platform! Keep up the great work!
@BrofUJu3 жыл бұрын
Honestly man, the main key is just keep the third out of the way. Just have it in one spot, or one instrument and you can start to go crazier with octave bass and fifths and stuff. And like Cameron said, pretty easy to add in fourths moving to fifths, seconds going to the root etc.
@VenusTheory3 жыл бұрын
Personally I've always skewed more into the minimalist side of leaving the space there - usually whenever I'm using this trick in practice, I'll have a 'drone' element in the background that hovers around the root or 5th of the chord set between the root and 5th of this voicing so it sonically fills out some of the space, but doesn't 'cluster' the instrument (in this case, piano) too much.
@GreasyDaddy3 жыл бұрын
@@VenusTheory Thank you for your reply! I think Ill experiment with that, not to bite your style, as a way to let the chords breathe and hold off some of that anxiety. 😅
@jayneubauer34013 жыл бұрын
one thing I do is a tremolo strings chord in the center. Either close voiced or spread out (not too much) with the "tinkly bits" (piano arpeggios, etc) opened like Cameron showed
