KZbin cares a lot more about copyright laws in the US than anywhere else. Fix the american copyright laws first. I know, with the corrupt idiots that have been in US Congress for 20 years, and who are going to be completely unhinged in the next few years, this is not going to happen soon.

I find it interesting how youtube is in a position to allow and soft-enforce automated copyright claims on their own website via ContentID which "is KZbin's automated, scalable system" and so appears to be their own product and not obviously stated as licensed from a third party, yet simultaneously removes themselves from any indemnity by stating that they aren't in the position to determine who owns the rights. I know youtube has some serious lawyers, they'll be aware of their position, and there will be legal nuance, probably in the ContentID terms of service, but it still sounds to me like at least some of the automated aspect, specifically, could be legally challenged.

Hey buddy, just a thought... it appears you've taken good steps in this video to gather evidence of the larger problem facing real creators. This ultimately needs to hit the courts and pressure needs to build for real legislation to be created to firewall against malicious copyright strikes, plagiarism, and to protect real creators in the future from everything you've just shown. I'm wondering if an established entertainment law firm might be able to watch your video and might be interested in organizing a class-action lawsuit that could ultimately result in 'Big Tech' taking this threat to creators seriously? Maybe I'm looking at this with some naivety, but it's just a thought.

Wire fraud, or fraud by radio, wire or television, is defined in 18 U.S. Code section 1343. The law makes it illegal to: create a scheme or artifice (or intend to do so) that is designed to use false or fraudulent pretense to obtain money or property create writings, signs, signals, pictures or sounds that contain pretenses, misrepresentations or false promises in furtherance of that scheme use wire, radio or television communication to transmit this information in interstate or foreign commerce If you violate this law by engaging in prohibited fraudulent communications, you could be fined and imprisoned for up to 20 years.

Concerns over copyright demonstrate that no one realises the world has changed. Copyright is meaningless and has been bypassed by technology. The concept of "owning" something 'you' created is no longer realistic. Ownership is only important if you intend to make money from it. Who created it is no longer clear-cut and is becoming irrelevant. This is the new world. Making money from creativity in the past depended upon a claim to ownership and this was pretty easy to prove if required. But that was the last century. AI has changed all that. It no longer matters who 'owns' a piece of work since before long, no one will be able to make money from it when music, art, movies, and so on can be created at the touch of a button by anyone with the help of AI.

Oh, you're just a Luddite going against the progress! The AI is just an instrument, nothing more! It liberates art, making it free for everyone! You're afraid that other people will be able to compete with your work now! I always wanted to write a cool song, but it always seemed so dawnting - learning the musical notation, all those solfeggios and yada-yada-yada. But now I myself can create anything I want without straining any muscle! Isn't that great?! I am a composer now! Wheee! /s

Interesting video and what a convoluted mess. That said, I think the legal arguments in favor of "intellectual property" are deeply flawed and that the entire concept of such seems ridiculous. I think this will become increasingly the view in the future, and that eventually "intellectual property" will be considered the oxymoron that it is. For me, that day can't come soon enough.

I was one of the people saying, “It is just AI. It isn’t going to replace real art, relax. It’s a tool.” I have since really revised my belief in this. I always thought our goals were to create AI to do the work, so we can be free to create art with our time. I know that is cliché to say that now- but this was what I really believed was the goal. Now I’m worried. This is going to discourage real creation.

Copyright is dying, it's going to be a wonderful first step in the era of entertainment. No more money for all the garbage, copyrighted or not ai or human. only real skills and passionate people are going to be admired and enjoyed. the basic level in all the arts is now what AI can do. Humans, show us what you got that is better than the sum of what all your civilisation has created. That is the new great creative challenge.

I am making a game. The world of publishing pretty much any type of thing just seems so broken, I'm not sure what I'll do when I reach that stage. Judges who are not educated on the things they're judging at all. Stuff that should be illegal, automated at a pace that preventative measures can not keep up with. So much collateral. What's next? Are they gonna start copyrighting math equations? [Slippery slope fallacy for comedic effect as an attempt to not fall into despair...]

First of all, copyright is "private property," and private property is something that can be exchanged for money or other items of value. Would the world be a better place if pharmaceuticals and all possible technologies weren’t privately owned? If they were simply available for everyone to use, almost for free? Why does everything have to be turned into a way to make money? It’s so absurd.

There's no way KZbin is not able to identify which track was uploaded first. It's a simple yet effective way to prove when someone is trying to falsely claim your songs, not only can you prove you made it first but you are also the first person to upload it (in a video, or by itself). The issue is that KZbin's appeal system is so lacking that it enforces scammers. These false claims should never win, KZbin has the data to prove which song was uploaded first. It's pretty obvious that KZbin has the means, the authority, and legal obligations to do something, but won't because they don't want to pay for it. One day someone will come up with an AI assistant to take care of these false claims for us, but until then, I'm afraid we'll have to do the paperwork...

AI is a tool, and the toolmaker can't claim the copyright. If we use this logic, then Apple or Dell should also make a claim as we use their products to edit and create digital content.

Yeah, this is essentially another reason why making money from creative outputs is likely becoming unfeasible. It has been a long time coming... the art genre has struggled with monetization for eons, and being an artist has never been a easy way to fame or wealth. Only pop culture and its mass appeal have elevated this to a significant level now. Moving forward, we will likely revert to a world where the arts are abundant but, in monetary terms, worthless. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Won't this impact every aspect of life? What about robots taking your job or machines performing tasks better than you ever could? Losing some copyright income will be the least of our concerns. So yes, it's a painful transition from one era to the next, likely leading to a couple of years or even decades of confusion. However, it will eventually settle, probably not in favor of making money from music through copyright, though.

Very very sad story. At least I'm so old I don't think I'm going to make money from my music anymore. But I'm very sad about young people trying to reach some recognition in the business. AI sucks for me because I think it'll mainly be used for bad things due to the mediocre people who thinks making music is as easy as "AI, do it for me!" True work, inspiration and good taste shouldn't be part of the past IMHO.

I don't think that AI is the problem here: the root problem is music and copyright itself. You had the same problem before AI. I could take a song, create a cheap mock up of it and upload it. And in an day and age were every body makes music and uploads it to KZbin it's not that unlikely to run into the same problem. The only different is that the mock creation process is now automated. And if you say that AI is not eligible for any credit - why was I as mock up creator eligible for a copyright of my mock up music?
@abigguitar3 сағат бұрын
You can’t protect yourself on a platform that refuses to protect itself. KZbin produced these copyright tools because the music industry forced KZbin’s hand. KZbin implemented these copyright controls only with the thought to solve a short sighted music industry requirement or face being shutdown. They built them. Rapidly! What KZbin didn’t do is thoughtfully design the features to NOT be abused by bad actors. KZbin’s engineers shortsightedly failed to take into consideration that bad actors even exist. Instead, KZbin naively thought that these features would and could only be used by friendly well-meaning people. Boy were they wrong. Bad actors exist everywhere, including and especially on KZbin. Unfortunately, because KZbin failed creators by not crafting these features with security as a priority, a free for all is what we got and is what we continue to have. It’s a free for all that fails to allow creators to protect themselves and their content.

I’ve used Suno a number of times and found it had rather uneven results. Some turned out great while most didn’t fare as well. I do use my own lyrics and if I get my DAW working I’ll be the one singing. I can still write music, but Suno sometimes suggests odd chords, different timings, or something like that. I would never release a fully AI track on my own unless I had composed the lyrics and had been involved in the concept of the music. I’d also insist on singing it or playing synth on it, even if the music wasn’t by me.

Copyright law needs to be updated to handle AI generated content. Because it’s a grey area, there’s very little legal knowledge of what to do. Many things will be legally tried, only a few will succeed. Those that succeed will be codified into law. We don’t yet know what those will be until they are uncovered.

This was as expected, tip: upload your own music to ContentID. Yep, a cost exists, but it's kind of like the patent system (also often broken and even much more expensive to register), being first is better. (edit: I see from the comments KZbin has problems putting 2 and 2 together to recognize you as you... so F)
