Dramatic Drone Footage Shows Moment Lava ENGULFS Road in Iceland

Dramatic drone footage shows the moment lava engulfed a road in Iceland for the third time this year.
It edged towards the coastal town of Grindavik on Saturday.
There has not been an evacuation order as authorities do not believe there is an imminent risk.
The road was previously engulfed in February and March, then repaired and reopened.

The Blue Lagoon has reopened. It generates so much income, and around 800-900 Icelanders are in employment there, they cannot afford to keep it closed unless immediate danger threatens.

If you read up on plate tectonics, you will realise that Britain isn't on a plate boundary. Iceland is partly on the Eurasian tectonic plate and partly on the North American tectonic plate. They are gradually drifting apart.

it likely will explode because it will have gotten water into small crevices, etc. other than that... it will just melt back into the magma. what happens when you put ice into water?

They put those there to measure how fast it’s moving. They start a timer the moment they place the flags and as soon as the magma reaches the flags they stop the timer and calculate its speed.

There's already a geothermal plant there just a short distance from the lava. That's part of the infrastructure they're trying to protect.
