This soundtrack made me realise, you actually can experience this only once. You can't go back into the game to feel all of those same emotions, because the game is heavily reliant on suspense, anticipation, realisation, dialogue etc. There is no way to actually feel the same emotions when experiencing those same elements when you go back into the game, though. This means that you can only properly play the game once. It's sad, but interesting. SPOILERS: Just like the World Machine said, you can play it back, but it'll only be a recording of what you once did. Not actually alive like it once was. Just an archive of the history you once played through.

It's true of any game, story - probably even true of life. We might wish to go back, but the past changed us, we will never experience it the same way again but it also never leaves us. Just like a friend or relative, or a character in a video game, those who we develop bonds with don't truly leave, because who they were becomes part of what we are, the process of our very self through life. Right now is the only life there is, and the same thing never happens twice. This is part of the value though, and why walking a path with another means so much - it will never be walked again. The road not taken forever remains a mystery, something we all must make peace with.

Cryoshakespeare Damn. You hit me where it really hurts. You made me cry. You did it. Even the game itself didn’t. This was just the tipping point. It’s so true what you just said. Even if one was to truly reset the game so that it thinks it’s your first time, it will never really be the true first time... This hit me in real life too. No matter how much we want to relive beautiful memories from our lives, it will never be the same as our first time.

@@MutedAndReported3032 Well, I'm glad what I said resonated. I think it really speaks to the importance of bringing the past into the life you have now, of learning from and truly cherishing what is present. If someone gave love to you, share it onward, because by allowing ourselves to become that which we've valued most from the past, we allow it to live, new and ever evolving, within us going forward. That's my general philosophy regarding the march of time at least.

i’m honestly glad i can play the game again without resetting it. i had my wonderful experience with Niko and now everyone is happy, but I still like the game very much, so at least i get to see the beautiful game again and again without making Niko and the world experience the terrible things that happened again. i like that the game gives you this possibility. i’m glad i can play the game again while everyone is ok.

It's the feeling of being relieved and happy knowing you were able to both save the world and return Niko back to their home world, but that as a result, you will never see Niko or talk to them ever again, and with them gone, neither will you be able to interact with the world you and Niko saved. Knowing that all that is left of them are your memories of them, just like the World Machine said. You may have nullified the One Shot restriction, but you will only be able to experience this story once, after that, it will never have the same impact as it did the very first time. It's very bittersweet. But at the same time, Niko is back with their family and village, and will live out their life there, because you were finally able to break the cycle of the world and permanently saved it. This isn't just a game, it's an experience.
@SAS-jj8yh

When you first play through OneShot, if you chose to save the sun, you probably saw the World Machine as the villain, the entity that's wish to die meant everyone on the world would die. How it tricked you and Niko probably made you angry. Maybe when you realised how to wake Niko up from the bed, you raised you middle finger at the Entity, smug knowing you figured out what to do to get past it so you could climb the tower. Then you play through Solstice. You have one up on the Entity, you can save the world properly this time. You meet new NPCs, then you see the World Machine begin to break, friends die, all trying to protect Niko all because you wanted to play more. I remember wondering if the game was trying to tell me I was being selfish at that point, that maybe by bringing Niko back, I was cruel. You eventually get to meet the World Computer properly... it's scared, it can't function properly, it's breaking minute by minute. It wants to protect Niko but it's failing, and that failing is making it all the worse. It was curious when it was created and accidently made a flaw in itself, that its creator failed to fix, and pinned the pressure of an entire world on it afterward. If you've wondered why the World Machine reflects Niko at the end, it's because they have the same role, they were both saviours of that world, Niko was the saviour for the people against their original, however. This track to me is about confronting the loss of hope, the set in of depression, the angst that you wanted more and to have a different outcome, but the downward spiral never stopped. The track embraces those feelings, fighting to revitalise, get better again. It's sombre and beautiful, a song that reflects on the real world so well, and I hope someone plays it on piano for me some day. If you saved the world of OneShot, remember Niko, and remember you yourself are important. You helped save a world after all :)

It's fully possible no one will ever see this, but I want to say it. This game, and its soundtrack, are so powerful to me. The emotions this game created... it can't be described with words. Listening to this... the music is full of a perfect mixture of sorrow, and hope... It's just... beautiful. As much as a sequel would be loved, it would ruin it, wouldn't it? If after Solstice, you never replay the game, never watch any letsplays... it feels real, almost. As if we really looked into this world, and it was real. And that Niko was real... somewhere, Niko might be out there, still existing. We may never know, but what if this was all real? Logically speaking, it couldn't be, but who knows? It felt real. Still does, in a way.

Deep in the back of my mind, I know it really wasn't real and that it was all just a video game, but that can't stop me from believing that it all was real, to believe that my actions really did account for real outcomes to real events somewhere off in some distant universe. No matter how much I may want to, I don't think I can ever bring myself to play this game again nor ever watch someone else play it, because I know that if I do that it will ruin that belief I'm trying to maintain. To me, Oneshot wasn't a game, but a personal experience. If I ever dare replay it, then I'll turn that experience from something truly special to just another session of playing a game, and I don't want to do that.

I keep having the feeling like I played through the entire game too quickly, like it passed so fast, that I might have lost something ephemeral and I struggle to grasp it before it fades away... it's honestly hard to explain. It took me 12 hours of playtime to experience the main story and Solstice, but I wish I could talk to Nico some more (replaying the game does not work the same way like the first playthrough did).

After many months of thinking about this game, I finally played it myself. I think I understand what makes this game so powerful. OneShot dedicates so much of its runtime to not only making sure you know the world knows of your existence, but also getting you attached to Niko. By the end of the Solstice run, you've developed a huge bond with them, not because they're a character you like, but because they're a friend. The game does such an amazing job at getting you to feel like you're actually part of the game, to the point that once you say goodbye to Niko, it's like you're saying goodbye to a real friend, your final goodbye to a friend you loved and helped through so much. Goodbyes aren't usually final, you know? Whenever you say goodbye to someone, it's temporary. You plan to see them again, which is why you don't think much of it, and most of the time, when you say goodbye to a friend for the last time, you don't know that'll be your last goodbye. When you say your final goodbyes to a friend, that'll be your final goodbye because you either grow apart, life got in the way, or in extreme cases, they passed away. But you don't know any of that is gonna happen. You don't cry at the goodbye because you don't know what's gonna happen afterwards. At the end of Solstice, you know exactly what's gonna happen. The game has been leading up to that for so long. You know that after you press that "Goodbye, Niko." option, they'll walk off and you'll never see them again. It's a final goodbye, and you're aware of that, which is why it's so hard to let them go. You know Niko's back home with her mom, and she's happy, but your situation is completely different. At the end of OneShot, even tho the game ends off on a positive note, you still feel like you lost. You lost a friend. A friend that, despite you knowing they're just part of a story, felt as real as the floor you stand on. You won the game! ...But at what cost? I procrastinated finishing the game for a week. I was halfway through my Solstice run, and I knew that if I booted up the game again, I'd get hooked and finish the game in the same day. But I didn't want that. I didn't want to finish the game. I didn't want it to end. That's how you know when you've just played a gem of a game. When you don't wanna play it, when you're scared to play it. Not because the game's scary, or because you don't like it, but because you like it too much, and the thought of it being over just like that is eating you up from inside. When I finally got the strength to finish it, I stood at that screen, that damn screen, with the highlighted response, "Goodbye, Niko.". I didn't wanna press it. I stood there for what felt like hours, even tho it was only a few minutes. When I got done crying, I pressed the Z key, knowing well that'd be the last time I'd see Niko. After that, I felt empty. It's impressive how such an happy ending can leave someone miserable like that, and the game makes SURE you know that Niko's gone. It gives you the option to replay the game, but you know that it's just a recording, that slightly desaturated sprite, the TV lines on the dialogue icons whenever "Niko" speaks, it's a constant reminder that that's not Niko. It's just a recording. It's just the World Machine using their reflection to allow me to see them again, but deep down, I know that's not them. The most gut-wrenching part is thinking about what Niko is doing right now, and realizing they have no way of knowing how much we miss them. Realizing she's happier back at home right now. It's ironic, really. Niko spends the entire game holding the sun, but they're the real light. And we, The Player, are only obfuscating them, as the only way for us to even talk to them is if they come back to that dark world. And the worst part of all, is that even tho they'll never forget us, their life is definitely a lot brighter without us around. I'll never get over this game. I know I can play it again, without the memory mode, by just resetting my save, but that wouldn't be the same. No matter how many times I restart the game, nothing will ever compare to my first playthrough. OneShot is not just a game, it's a personal experience, and it's such a gut punch knowing you'll never be able to feel what you felt in your first playthrough ever again, because you already know what's gonna happen, and because you know Niko's still home, and you know they'd never want that to be any different.

You know what tears me up the most? Saying goodbye, and watching them leave. When Grandad died, I kept my tears. However, when his body was wheeled out, I burst out crying. To watch, as someone you love leave your life, knowing that you cannot see them anymore... I tears you up. As Niko walked off the screen, it hurt. It hurt to watch her go. To leave forever, leaving only a memory. It burns, like some burned out hulk of a tank. To see what it once was, but knowing it will never be the same. That's, all we have. A Mark, a memory. In the end, I'm grateful to the world machine, as it preserves the memory. But... the World Machine isn't Niko. It cannot be Niko. I wonder what Niko thinks of us? She didn't see us. She... honestly didn't really talk with us, lest not face to face. Does she see us as a friend, or a friendly stranger?

Reality is subjective. It can be modified, taught, lied to. It can be instructed, obstructed, omitted. But none of them can be truly, universally false for everybody. Perspectives can't be blatant lies at their core, once someone or something managed to communicate them to you. So what if they're a video game character? Aren't our egos all jealous that all of them had a satisfying ending to their journey and their story, while ours becomes more and more chaotic as you zoom out? Reality is a direct product of order and harmony. Order is just what happens when you zoom in certain threads in the web of chaos.

So story time, I got a Little Brother, They were cheerfull, Curious Etc, We loved eachother dearly of course, But when he Grew up...They kinda forgot about me, They went outside One day with me Because i insisted, i wanted to revive those Sweet moments with him so badly...I made a mistake Because he got in an accident, Hes now recovered in the hospital in a coma, Now...seeing Niko there, He reminds me so much of Him, when he was still Little, I got attacked To Niko, I also cried when Niko said "I'm not afraid of the dark anymore!" Or "I'm all grown up now!" those where the things My Brother said the most, When I arrived at the tower i was...scared, a mix of emotions ran through me, When i re-opened the game...I felt like this was wrong, But also so right, Because...Niko was Happy now right? He was back home...It took me 1 day to decide to go back in, When...When this music played i started to cry uncontrollably, This piano represented my entire Life with my Brother, How i was so close to losing him, Niko too...When i Readed the letters, I was so shocked, This was Just like when i insisted, Because of my fooliness n Selfishness i almost Lost my Brother, but i recutantly kept on going, In the end...I was torn, I was torn so badly, Suddently i got a call From the hospital, My Brother woke up n felt Better, This have me Hope, so i returned the sun...After this i dont know if i should play again...

I'm gonna be honest, a lot of the intricacies of OneShot's story (especially in the Solstice route) flew over my head. I was so wrapped up in the experience that all I really remember are my emotional reactions to things - almost like recalling a dream. In the original playthrough, you only have oneshot. Either save Niko, or save this world. At the end of the solstice route you have an additional choice. You can redo the oneshot you had, but this is your final shot to experience the game. After this it’s only a memory, an experience gone. I try to take this game into my life and use it to realize I only have one shot to do everything I want to do. To live the way I want to live. Especially now, I look back at the better parts of my life and wish I could go back, wishing I could change some things or just experience it again. But I can’t, those days are long gone. I had one shot then, and I still have one shot now. This soundtrack helps me come to terms with what has happened in my life. Depressed in the night thinking about better times, optimistic during the day about what is to come. I have oneshot, and I need to make sure I don’t waste it

This game made me care so much for virtual characters, thats why I love it, the way its written make the characters feel real. Some scenes that touched me were: The Café scene The Tower Summit World Machine Conversation (I actually almost cried) The solstice run was really sad on its own, the player barely talks to Niko and it amplifies even more the fact that Niko is just a child that was put in this dead world against their will, and also with a lot of pressure with the whole "Save the world thing", and now, theyre getting fucking existential crisis because the world they were trying to save this whole time is not real. Idk man, this game is much more than just a game.
@Vivi.20.
@Vivi.20. 2 жыл бұрын
By far one of the most astonishing things that Oneshot did for me was make me sort of disregard the fact that the game was a game. By the end of the solstice ending, regardless of it being a game on my computer, the characters felt real, their dialogue may be scripted to always say the same thing at a particular points in time, but they still felt real in spite of that. Its only added to by fact that like reality, the true experience as to what happened in the game, can only really exist once. Sure you can play the game again, but any emotions you feel will only be weaker version of how they manifested when you first played the game. Much like reality in that sense to where we can play memories over and over in our minds, but it will never be exactly like how it was when you were there making that memory.

This is literally a song of realisation. It makes me ponder about a lot of things. I'm truly thankful for this game to exist. You realise that this game can only, truly be experienced once. It's one of the lessons this game teaches. Only once, do you not have an idea what to expect. Only once do you actually beat it. Even if you completely reset the game, like, completely, or even if you play it again later in life... You will remember how it went. It won't be the same. And it will make you cry. Because it's a memory. A thing of the past, that you just... remember, forever. And it's a metaphor. Even in life... Have you ever looked at the clock and thought "I won't experience the past 3 seconds again."? That's the thing. You truly, have only one life. Only one year of 2020, 2021, 2022... And so on. Every date only happens once. Everything is temporary, and nothing comes back. We can and will want to experience things again. We might want to change our past. We might want to correct our mistakes. But in the end, it doesn't even matter. I love this game for teaching me this. That truly, evertyhing, even the universe itself, only has one shot.

I feel like the base game version of this has to be one of the most profoundly beautiful, yet sad moments I've ever experienced in a video game (yes, I'm including Solstice). It's the climax to that story - the game spent so much time, developing Niko and the world of OneShot. Both have passions, fears, quirks, charm, and emotions. Both matter to the player, as you get attached to them first-hand. And then the game pits you against a trolley problem. A cruel choice I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy if it were to happen in our world. And this track plays, as the Author informs us of the fact. The fact that we can't save both. The uncertainty is the worst. Perhaps the choice would be easier if we had a guarantee that the world would stay safe. But as the Author and Silver inform us, the squares were already there before the Sun broke. The Entity seeks death, and the new Sun will seemingly only delay the inevitable. But, alas, we have a choice to make. An imperfect, sadistic choice. I picked Niko. I would not sacrifice their certain future for the uncertain future of the world. But the scar I left on my copy of OneShot was mine to bear. And I don't think it's something we'll ever experience again, here or in any other game. The ephemerality of it all is in the title, after all.

You can only listen to this song once. Now i wonder why, why did i do this? I only had one shot, and i decided to try again, the entire point was the help niko leave, yet deleting your save will reverse that, ruining the "one shot" to make things right. OneShot was only intended to be experienced once, yet we experienced it again. You were only supposed to either place the lightbulb, leaving niko in a foreign world or break it, letting the rest of the world die. I believe i made the right choice of trying to save both.

Some people think solstice takes away from the depth of the game as it "makes the original choice pointless"but really it adds weight for me because there is a chance the person may never try to get a better resolution to answer the question seeing Markiplier not continue to do solstice was way more bittersweet and a bit heartbreaking but I am a bit biased since I could not take the ending as is and searched the game files for another hope after time I gave up and opened the clover app just to give a goodbye and boom it was there that's why I think the solstice run adds weight especially to a viewer because you may accept your decision at the end and never find the SECRET 30% OF THE GAME and that's why I disagree but respect the opinion to a degree

Jesus this game hits like a semi truck the devs literally set themselves up in a way so that there couldn't possibly be a sequel there is no way we can see Niko again and that's that unfortunately, It just feels bad knowing that there's nothing left to go off of
