OK so this might sound morbid to some on here, but I always like to watch the videos with the smallest chicks in the nest because I’d wait to see what the parent storks are going to do. Sometimes I watch nests where the parents do absolutely nothing to the smaller storks and they let them live. And then there’s situations such as this nest where eventually the youngest chick is snuffed out. And it’s normal (the chicks being killed), because this is something that is so natural in the stork bird community, and this is what they do. I will never understand the people who comment with sad emoji crying faces saying that they feel so bad and etc. etc. etc. It is what it is, and if you don’t like it, then don’t watch the videos where it says that the smaller chick is eliminated! They lay a certain amount of eggs on purpose, and see how many will last from the hatches. Sometimes all of them do, and sometimes all of them don’t. I’ve seen nests where more than one chick was snuffed out. I’ve seen nests where a chick that even looked huge was snuffed out. The parents do this to give the other chicks a better chance of survival and resources especially if resources are slim in a certain nest. There is the good the bad and the ugly. And I enjoy watching all of it. And I have watched some videos where some of the chicks were brutally tortured and killed to the point of having gashes, and bleeding and necks poked open from the parents beaks, or even eaten by the parents. This was nowhere near THAT bad. So I thank you Edith for showing what you show, and showing the 100% realness of these birds and what it is that they do.

@@SONORSQ2guy I can’t tell you how much it irks me when I see these comments under these stork channels, and if a chick is eliminated or is getting killed by the parents, you get these people who actually comment how sad they are and how they feel like crying, or that they are crying or that they DID cry etc. etc., Just like you wrote. It’s ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. It’s not all rainbows and puppies and butterflies. And again, in the stork community, they are the most well-known birds for eliminating chicks out of their nests to give their other chicks better survival. Do people really think that all they’re gonna see are stork channels where the stork parents and the chicks are all one little happy stork family in the nest? It’s delusional. And, sometimes it infuriates me when I notice that some of these channels would actually turn the volume off if a chick in the nest that they are filming is being killed, or they will only show a certain length of it and then not show it all the way to the end. And I feel like they do that for the sensitive people who threaten to unsubscribe from the channel if they see a storklet killed! It’s like don’t succumb to those types of people. Cater to the people who want to see EVERYTHING. ALL OF IT, 100%. Don’t just cater to the sensitive people who tell you that they’ll unsubscribe!

@@Bige1959 That surely would be some thing! I’d have to say that that would be something I’ve never seen before. Like how sometimes I rarely see the siblings not protecting another sibling when they see that the runt is being killed by the parent stork. I’ve seen siblings actually try to save their brother or sister. And then there are rare videos where I actually see the siblings jumping in on the attack and trying to kill the baby along with the parent stork

@@ninamarie8363 Here’s my favorite:: “mom/dad/brother is such a bully. They don’t need to have any more babies.” Or “mom shouldn’t feed that sibling and teach it a lesson.”… That one really triggers my nerve lol People do the exact same with Eagles/Osprey nests and it drives me just as crazy. They think mom/dad should take the chosen eliminated chick(s) and drop it off at their nearest hospital/fire station, I guess.. 🤦🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️ 🤣

Thank you, Edith P for providing these videos. (I agree with commenters Ninamarie and Greg Patterson.) I appreciate that you have shown all aspects these bird’s life cycles. This species is quite beautiful and I have enjoyed watching all parts of the way they need to survive. Unfortunately some viewers are either naive or immature. Humans cannot be anthropomorphic. We cannot attribute human characteristics to animals. It just doesn’t work. It’s best to let nature manage itself in most cases, especially with studies like these. It’s all part of “the economy of nature”. At times humans do help (interfere). The special case where the mother stork was accidentally killed by power lines is an example. That made for an interesting study. However, it can’t be done (nor should be) in every case. I have learned a great deal watching your videos (storks, birds of prey) and have enjoyed them immensely. Also thank you for not “sanitizing” them. They are simply fascinating.

These cams are not in place to intervene with what nature intends. They're in place so we have the opportunity to learn about these amazing creatures and their way of life. Not all are going to survive. . That's just the fact of it. Now the rest of the brood have more of an opportunity for resources. . . Which they needed. Food hasn't been of abundance in this nest.

If you can't handle the wild, don't watch it and don't ruin the opportunity for others. When watching these live cams YOU take on the responsibility of knowing that what you're going to see is not always going to be favorable and that not every hatchling is going to survive. I have never seen a nest be this quiet for this long. The only sound they make is to ask for food. For the first time, I could understand the mother's decision to eliminate a chick. It would really suck to have 5 babies constantly begging for food and know you have nothing to give them. She shook Tiny a little and threw him out - nowhere near the brutal kill many of them will commit. The saddest part of this for me is how hungry they all are.

She might have, but it seems to have gotten away (fell) from her there as she was continuing to "tenderize" if to be eaten/regurgitated/fed to others... usually they just stick on the side of the nest during these repeated droppings - indeed this one was left on the side of the nest to die in a previous video, but managed to crawl back in at the beginning of this video.
