Greatest moment in Acq-Inc podcasting: Season 2, Episode 8, from the 18:30 to the 23:30 mark
@cavalier973 Жыл бұрын
I posted this over on the piazza forums: “The first Acq-Inc podcast was a marketing ploy to showcase 4th edition, back in 2008. The rules had not been released at the time of the podcast. It was the first time that Mike Kruhulik had ever played D&D. Chris Perkins and then James Wyatt were the DMs; they ran the original three (Omin, Jim, and Binwin) through “The Keep on the Shadowfell”, the first 4e published adventure. The party was TPK’d. Twice. It was quite amusing, as long as you don’t mind foul language-only one word is bleeped out in all of Acq-Inc history. Scott said it. Scott asked how badly they could curse before he said it. The season 2 adventure was written by Chris Perkins specifically for the group. This is when Wil Wheaton joined the group as Aelfel the Eladrin Avenger. They released this adventure (with some modifications) free of charge. They start in Fallcrest, and travel to a construction site. Season 3 saw the group travel to Hammerfast, in the Dawnforge Mountains. This is when Aelfel dies (spoilers). It also is one of the funnier episodes. Season 4, the group travels to Hell to rescue Aelfel. Season 5 (I think) is the one where Jim’s grandfather died, and Jim inherits the house, but his cousin casts some spell, and they are hurled through space and time to… Season 6, where they wind up in Baldur’s Gate, in the Forgotten realms.”

“Acq-Inc: where do they come from? I don’t remember it being mentioned in any of the podcasts where Omin Dran is from. We first learn that he has family (a sister) in the episode where they go to Hell. Jim Darkmagic is from “Newhampshire”, but his family’s house moves around (but it isn’t a walking house). It isn’t clear what part of the Nentir Vale the house is at when they visit. Binwin Bronzebottom is “likely from the hills north of Winterhaven”, according to Chris Perkins, in Season 2. There is no mention of Aelfel’s home. The original team (Omin, Jim, and Binwin) first adventures together in Winterhaven (Season 1), and explore the Keep on the Shadowfell. In Season 2, they’ve moved to Fallcrest, and are staying at the Silver Unicorn Inn (described in the 4e DMG, p. 201). DM Perkins uses the name “Wisara Osterman” from the DMG, but he seems to be describing a human, while the DMG says Wisara is a halfling. In Season 3, they visit the Fiveleague House on the way to Hammerfast, and meet Barton from the DMG (p. 206).”

“Omin Dran worships Avandra, the god of freedom, travel, luck, and trade. Jim and Binwin appear to have no religion. Aelfel worships Melora, the god of wilderness and the sea.”

I still occasionally re-listen to the first four or five seasons. I’ve not listened to any of the more recent seasons, though. I recommend “3d6, Down the Line”. They are currently running through “The Halls of Arden Vul”, using OSE (with houserules). They also had a Dolmenwood campaign, and a short campaign using “Blades in the Dark”.

Splugoth was the goblin from the Christmas special that Was ringing the bell of the church in Viari’s home town. I won’t spoil much other than that. His name was not revealed in the Christmas episode but rather in a C team episode.

Was that Binwin's last episode? I haven't actually watched that yet, and honestly I haven't really gotten into the C Team yet. I tried watching the first episode, but there were Twitch donations affecting the gameplay and I really didn't care for it. I hope they stopped that since it was distracting.
@300_WM5 жыл бұрын
DravenSwiftbow I think it might have been his last. It’s available on Prime video, it’s actually a pretty funny episode.
@sakisaotome67535 жыл бұрын
They changed how they deal with donations since then to make it less distracting, bit it is geared toward community partisipation. but a lot of the lore from this book comes from what was developed from the c team. Even why they changed things to make it so that they were always in the forgotten realms.

Actually Splugoth is even older than that. He's the goblin named "Splug" that the group takes as hostage/intern during the very first podcast adventure with Omin, Jim, and Binwin. After dying when Omin chooses to save a party member, he's later raised from the dead and changes his name to reflect his new revenge mission.

I believe you can find the stats for Jeff the intern in pat rathfuss's free acq inc adventure istar that they played at a pax east game with Perkins as Drizzt

That is true, but for legal reasons they changed everyone's name. Also I wanted to see stats for Jeff "The Wizard"

It's more noticeable in the adventure with Jim's Murder Mystery

Thinking only fans of their show can enjoy this is very short sighted.
@DravenSwiftbow5 жыл бұрын
I didn't mean to imply that only fans can enjoy the book, but based on my experience people who haven't watched the show were either unaware or uninterested in this book. I actually think there are a lot of great things in here that can be used outside of having Acq Inc in the game but when you release a licensed product the majority of consumers purchasing it are doing so because they are a fan of the source material. I do plan on giving my review next week and hope to go into some detail as to why non fans should give this a try.

I wonder if Will Weaton's old character Aeofel is referenced in the book
@DravenSwiftbow5 жыл бұрын
He is mentioned as a former member of Acq Inc at the beginning of the book, and the adventure included has an "Obligatory Acid Pit" trap early on with floating bones inside, which I am pretty sure is a reference to how Aeofel died.

I am not familiar with AI, but the idea of putting this type of content into my upcoming Saltmarsh campaign is intriguing. Are there any AI shows you would suggest?

This is the Acq Inc episode I mentioned in the video and is to this day is still my favourite in the series. The "Green Flame" thing is from an earlier video where Chris Perkins asked the crowd to shout it back anytime he said "Green Flame" he said it was a reference to Big Trouble In Little China. It happens frequently in the video and still is a thing to this day, so I thought it might be best to give you the backstory on it.
@ytubebrowser75605 жыл бұрын
Is your video private? It doesnt appear when searching for Dungeons & Dragons or Acquisitions Incorporated. This is the best flip through I've seen and it deserves more views.

I was going to make it public tomorrow, but upon further consideration I decided to make it public now, since today is it's release date.

If you want an introduction to Aqu Inc I recommend Jerry's spin off show "Aquisitions Incorporated The C Team"

None of the old characters? Binwin Bronzebottom or Aeofel?
@DravenSwiftbow5 жыл бұрын
Their stats aren't there, but they are listed as former members. I know Scott still uses the Binwin character, so there may have been some legal issues there?

@@DravenSwiftbow Yea, I kinda figured it would be legal name rights or something along those lines...

They might not have felt like including decreased characters

Scott Kurtz has expressed frustration at working with Jerry and Mike, but they both kept full rights to their characters as agreed upon by PA and WOTC. Scott had a great interview with Zee Bashew just a few months ago where he finally talked about what caused him to break away from Acq Inc, and you can really understand the frustration he feels at things not working out.

Like I said in your last vid. Acq inc. is my favorite of the live action shows. I really recommend you check out the Glass Cannon podcast on youtube. they do some great funny live plays in the pathfinder system have around the same frequency as acq inc. Don't know about splugoth the returned (only up to season 9 currently) but in their first session in 4e they met and were saved by a goblin called splug who was quite entertaining. My suspicion this is the same character
@DravenSwiftbow5 жыл бұрын
That very well could be. I haven't listened to the early games which were done on audio podcast. with the exception of the first 30 minutes or so of the very first podcast where Mike came up with the name "Jim Darkmagic", I was really glad he didn't change the name, but it was close there for a few minutes.

looking forward to the reprint of HotD / RoT. in a single book with Hydro's art on the cover for my collection. This one is a pass for me. Never really watched the show.
@DravenSwiftbow5 жыл бұрын
I am looking forward to that as well, especially if they change the opening chapter, since the original wasn't great. I always ran it so that the party was in town before the attack rather than expect a group of 1st level characters to run towards a town being attacked by an Adult Dragon.

I've only watched a few bits of the show, usually just 5 - 10 minutes.
