I think it's interesting how despite Abaddon's attempts to be greater than his father Horus and his grandfather the Emperor, he ultimately is no better than either. He can't even be a better father than the Emperor, which isn't even that hard. He treated his daughter the same way the Emperor treated the Primarchs, as a tool. He knows this is true as evidenced by the line "that's what fathers do", but he just doesn't care. He hasn't learned anything from the failures of either Horus or the Emperor.
@CidVeldoril3 ай бұрын
By how he reacted and seemed hurt I would assume that he does very much care and understand. However. This is Chaos we're talking about and the climactic battle of Cadia. The Fortress was pretty much lost at that point. So. What would happen if she, who is hated by his very powerful vassals were to escape the fortress and return to his side? After having proclaimed herself his daughter to whoever was listening no less. At best she would be a weakness that could be threatened and at worst without the fortress being there to protect her and allow her basically limitless control over the situation she'd be killed as soon as one of her enemies got the chance. To actually save her, Abaddon would've had to protect her 24/7 which would make his actual job - which is what would REALLY be protecting her - very very hard to do.
@user-yf4gx4rf8h3 ай бұрын
But he was better than them . He let her read his mind. She wanted to hear it, but she knew how he felt. He couldn't say it, she saw the "heavy crown" . Even the line "that's what fathers do", could be seen as acknowledging her as his daughter.
@calebh3732 ай бұрын
@@user-yf4gx4rf8h I disagree. The Emperor also confided with some of his sons, such as Corvus Corax. Ultimately, the he is no better than the Emperor, because the outcome of both instances of fatherhood is the same. Exactly like the Emperor, Abaddon sacrificed his daughter for his Black Crusade, just like the Emperor sacrificed his sons for his Great Crusade. Though he couldn't help but perceive her as a daughter, the Emperor also couldn't help but get attached to some of his sons, especially Horus. Both sacrificed their children to their respective crusades.
@calebh3732 ай бұрын
@@CidVeldoril The Emperor also couldn't help but get attached to is sons, especially Horus, yet he still was willing to abandon and sacrifice them. I read that as him acknowledging her as his daughter, even though she didn't seem to take it that way, since she kept trying to hail the Vengeful Spirit after he disconnected. But the Lion vs Angron is from a big Campaign event, so it is solid canon.
@CidVeldoril3 ай бұрын
I kinda think Abaddon's reason for not saving her might be deeper than not wanting to face the affection he has for her. Her fortress is doomed. His council and countless others despise her. And she just voxed the entire Choas clique on the ship that she's basically his daughter and wants daddy to save her. People who really do not like her because she revealed their shenanigans to Abaddon. Without the fortress to keep her safe she'd likely be very dead very soon because someone with a grudge would kill her. And that's being lucky. If the slaaneshy cultist got to her, her end would have been much worse than being rammed into Cadia. This isn't the Ultramarines where if Big Blue decided to save a child everyone would instantly accept that and protect said child. It's Choas.

I think the main point is that Chaos betrays. Its fight against the Materium embodies the severance of links of family and kinship. Okay, haven't finished the video yet, but it is amazing that Abaddon thinks he has to be able to "take off" the crown of Chaos in order not to succumb to its power, unlike Horus; but he doesn't know the Emperor's treachery that enabled him to defeat the Warmaster in the first place was exactly that - convincing Horus to let go of the blessings of Chaos to prove that he was in control still. It's amazing how the Black Library writers are able to weave these stories together (here it's Fall of Cadia and The End and the Death vol 3) and give us a sense of Abaddon's hubris like that.

@marcingolab62273 ай бұрын
@@aguspuig6615 It was my reading of the book that Horus' trajectory on the path to damnation had already been fixed by the time he was defeated. You get an insight into his head throughout his battle with the Emperor and he only relinquishes some of his power for a little while to impress Garviel Loken, his former Mournival advisor. What he doesn't know is that it was actually the Emperor pretending to be Loken (or speaking through Loken), the battle was still on and that was the final stratagem. Abaddon is profoundly mistaken in his view of Horus as a fool for falling to Chaos; Horus was fooled by the Emperor, and would have easily triumphed if he had stayed on his winning course. The obscenely powerful gifts of Chaos were the only thing that offered him a path to victory against the Emperor, not to mention even attacking the Sol System the way he did.

I thoroughly enjoy these glimpses of traitors/xenos perspectives and stories. 40k wasn’t created as a story about the Imperium after all, it was a setting where everyone sucked and everything was tragic. Fantastic narration by both you and Celestine as well. Had me hooked even though I knew how her story ended. Thank you for the top tier content, Sandman. Always a pleasure hearing the perspectives, details, theories, and narration you and your friends/collaborators bring.

like to believe it was a arcane "get everything you ever wanted, all for one girl which causes you nothing but problems" situation. and he chose chaos. i inner monologue in the future about this situation would be cool.

Daddy issues are truly the uniting core of all of the 40k universe. Men will burn the galaxy for ten thousand years rather than go to therapy LOL
@irtp26823 ай бұрын
I just wish we had one 40k writer with a good relationship with their dad. Making everything about daddy issues has really lowered my enjoyment of the setting.

Your lucky, i cant take choas seriously. It like a 4 year old trying to beat you in a wrestling match. Also failaddon.. and like half the bad guys. Anything that isnt Huron is like instant F tier since Choas revokes their ability to not be cavemen. 😅
@leandrocastello3093 ай бұрын
To be fair, if you sop calling it "daddy issues" and start calling it "familiar drama" all of the setting suddenly becomes a greek tragedy.

Its a bit repetitive but thats why i like the side stuff more. Cain funni. Trazyn funni. My favorite faction is the Assassinorum thankfully so i dont care too much about what the biggest characters are doing

@@SandmanofTerra I really liked the plotline in Rath's book. It gives us an interesting pov on Abaddon and his inner circle, and gives Abaddon a "Primarch-like'" ironic twist. He made her as a tool and weapon, treated her kindly to control her... and then grew real affection. Great parallel with The Emperor and his "Sons"!

Can you do a video on Trazyn and his museum? I've always been curious as to whether there are niche details about his story that aren't covered in things like The Infinite and the Divine.

You know whats interesting about this? Abbadon thinks he is doing as he pleases, but he is probably being secretly manipulated by the emperor. What if, the entire time, abbadon was a loyalist?

Wew, turns out that trying to hijack an ancient fortress constructed by the species known for their mastery of the warp and disdain for Chaos, and trying to turn it to Chaos, is not a very wise decision

Abaddon is Primarch level already. The clone of Horus that Abaddon killed was a full Primarch, Aaron Dembski Bowden confirmed this when talking about Talon of Horus. I'm so glad that Abaddon is getting the good writing and character arcs he deserves. He was a meme for too long. The Warmaster will kill the Emperor on the Golden Throne, it's been written in the stars. He carries Drach'nyen, the Daemon fated to murder the Emperor.

Now, we can wait for a few years, before watching her and Melusine to have a mud fight. See whether Fabius or Ezekyle can raise up a fiercer lady. Or not, appearantly. Well, we can at least thank Abaddon for reminding us why he sucks and no one should respect him.

Are the disk plate adhesives feasible to be removed from walls? Speaking as a renter.
@SandmanofTerra2 ай бұрын
Hi mate, Ive never had any issues myself and I found this on their website: "One of the elements of the mounting kit, specifically the protective leaf, is meant to reduce the risk of damage of the wall if you decide to remove the Displate. Nevertheless, the final outcome also depends on the surface itself." Looks like it will be dependent on the type of paint/wallpaper. There is a reddit group dedicated to displates which might be able to help you if you know the specifics
